Perhaps Toulon should crack down on their players a little

Well I don't know if the case would be serious because the players and the "victim" don't remember a fight happened. There are just witnesses who claim it happened.

But do they not remember it because not much happened or because they were hammered.

Hammered.
Apparently the last news here are the victim had multiple injuries and facial fractures.
On the Toulon fans' blog, some people are saying it's not the first time some players drunk too much and are agressive.
And Armitage would be one of the players the most involved in these incidents.

if thats true about the injuries, why did it take the police 7 weeks to investigate?

The guys had surgery, they had to listen the witnesses and the time to file a complaint.
In additional: Christmas and New-Year's day I suppose.

Re: S.Armitage in Police Custody.
its one thing to get drunk and get involved in a bit of a fight. plenty of players have done this and it has not impacted their club or country career. its another thing entirely to put someone in hospital. if steffon armitage did that then he wont be playing for england ever again. which i hate to say, as i really, really wanted to see him in our RWC squad.

Re: S.Armitage in Police Custody.
Again, I'll reserve judgement until some actual facts appear rather than speculation. I don't doubt something has happened, but the lack of a victim account is going to make investigation by the authorities a tad difficult. Also, whilst Steffon and Chiocci voluntarily attended the police station to give their accounts, I understand from some reports that there were allegedly other Toulon players involved in whatever happened as well, the two names I have seen mention (largely unsurprisingly) being Delon and Matthieu Bastareaud.
As I say, I'll wait and see how things pan out beofre giving an opinion on whether or not player x, y or z should recieve any punishments.

Whilst I take your point, you do have the scenario whereby somebody could throw one punch in self defence and completely smash the side of the recipents face in requiring surgery, whilst another person could repeatedly punch and kick someone with no reason to have done so, but only cause bruises and no need for a trip to hospital. Which is worse? I don't think you can necessarily judge on the injuries without knowing how they were sustained.

French justice system is very different to the UK one. This is the equivalent of him being charged not arrested I think - IE he is in for questioning not banged up

Do you have any links? Because I have seen nothing like that on the French websites.
The last news is Chiocci is cleared, but not yet Armitage who is still questioned.

Where was it in France that those players got attacked with machetes?
Seems like rugby players and trouble were made for each other down there

Its like footballers over here, they just seem to attract the wrong sorts.
Of course footballers probably have bodyguards following them round, whereas the rugby players wouldn't dream of such a thing, perhaps that might begin to change

Unless he was dressed up as a superhero and his accomplice was disguised as a six foot radish then there's no real story here. (Now there's a sentence I never dreamed I'd write.)

Yes in a usually calm town Rodez. The players defended a woman in a bar. And the guy came back (with friends of course) later and attack two of the players who were alone with machetes, before running for their lives when the rest of players came to help the 2 guys.

Re: S.Armitage in Police Custody.
Steffon Armitage has given his defence in court during his hearing relating to an assault charge from December last year.
The England international and European Player of the Year appeared before the Criminal Court of Toulon on Tuesday.
A fight broke out between Armitage and a 31-year-old diner at a restaurant in Le Mourillon, resulting in a number of fractures and injuries to the victim that required long periods of treatment.
La Provence have reported that Armitage is contesting the facts put against him, with the back-rower saying the following in court.
"I contest the charges against me. I do not remember anything. I was really drunk and feel that I unintentionally fell on the victim, this injuring him but without doing it intentionally.
"One thing is for certain, I very much regret being drunk; I'm a professional player and as such must set an example."

With his knees an elbows, bounced back up and fell down again as he was drunk

Re: S.Armitage in Police Custody.
If you're really drunk and can't remember anything...have can you 'feel' what you did? It's basically saying "I can remember but I wouldn't do something like that".
