Re: THANKS AGAIN ROGER -"you not very nice person"
It it because the games are on a Friday night? Surely that suits Wales because it means that there will probably be fewer travelling fans?
It seems that all Friday night games are in the Millenium Stadium - must have something to do with traffic management on a Friday night in bigger cities.

SIN - if Friday nights suited the home team surely everyone would want in on the act. The first Friday night game was France v WALES in 2009. Since then only WALES home games

It's a good night for club games, but international teams draw from a wider catchment area. Thats what I don't understand- what is the advantage of this for the WRU?

Thats what I don't understand. How does a Friday night game generate more income than a Saturday or Sunday game?

I would much prefer a Friday night game to a Sunday game (and then the following week you could playing again on the Saturday).
Can you imagine trying to get to Twickenham or Stade de France on a Friday night through rush hour traffic?
It is only one game a year. I really don't see what the problem is.

Aye SIN, you don't see the problem because you've never had 6 Nations game on a Friday night, let alone a home one. Oh and look you live in Dublin so if you ever did have one it would be grand. It's only once a year, yeah every ****ing year !! For 'Home'fans from outside of Cardiff this is a bag of sh!te

Sorry Notch, missed this. I am only surmising but I guess there's a bit of extra spondoolies from TV involved ?? Or is it that Roger loves ****ing up things for fans ?

6N should be just about Saturday afternoon anyway. The beauty of this competition is that you can fit 3 games in one afternoon/evening.

I've plenty of experience of Friday night home games for Munster with much greater distances involved! And its every 2nd week. I'd love one a year!.
Most of Wales' population are within an hour of cardiff (or less). I think Sunday games are much worse.

I'm not mad (nor are the players) of early starts. No atmosphere at the games. Earliest they should be is 2.30/3pm.

SIN - the key here is 6 Nations. As Notch says it's a different dynamic. As for people being within an hour of Cardiff ? On a 6 Nations Friday night, most districts of Cardiff are not within an hour, trust me I've experienced it - never again though.
Guess we'll just disagree, different strokes for different folks and all that. Looks like most people aren't too worried about it either

LAURIE - it's not like NZ where you move it around Auckland, Christchurch, Wellington, Dunedin ..etc. Nowadays it's all at the Millennium. In the past St Helens, Swansea, West Wales also used to host internationals but the last match was in 1954 (NZ's first victory over Wales was achieved there in 1924). The Racecourse, Wrexham, North Wales has hosted Wales v Romania 3 times, the last in 2003.

New Zealand: 268,670 square kilometres
Ireland: 84.5 sq kilometres
Even Munster is bigger than Wales (24,675 sq km)

But for Wales in the 6N having one Friday night game is 50% of the tournament (one odd years)! That's a lot (in percentage terms).

Umm, I'm no wiz at maths but isn't 21 square kilometres roughly 4.5km x 4.5km, which is smaller than my village! Or were you on the WUM???

It's not really that unusual for a rugby nation to have only one home/national stadium, is it?! You make us sound like some backward hillbillies! Which we are to a certain extent I suppose :;
Wales play in the MS. Ireland play in the Aviva/Lansdowne Road (don't try to count Croke Park - you had to beg and change laws to get in there during renovations! ). Scotland play in Murrayfield. England play at Twickers. They don't go on the road either. And y'all actually can (capacity wise)!

I didn't mean to imply that! Though if the cap fits...
Nah it's no different in Ireland, nor in any of the other home nations. Australia, South Africa and New Zealand are all much, much more spread out than our relatively small nations.

This sucks @rse, what people do not realise is, that for me, the last train or bus to Merthyr is at 10.30pm, now if the game kicks off, like tomorrow at 8.05pm by the time the match is over, I have half an our at most to get out of the stadium and onto the train platform, and that is with me navigating around thousands of other people, and when you get to the train or bus, it is a lottery if you can get on before it is filled up. This is why i never go to Friday night games in the capital, unless I, or somebody else is driving.

Re: THANKS AGAIN ROGER -"you not very nice person"
I understand the frustration. I have gone to Cardiff for two Friday night matches and both times I have had to shell out massive dough for hotel rooms. This just so everyone I am with can have a few pints at and after the match. When the matches are in the afternoon, it was easy to hop a train or bus. Total disregard for almost anyone going to the matches, except those who live in Cardiff.
On the other hand, living in America right now, I can get off work and be in my living room watching with a Boddington's. Ironically, kick-off is 3:00pm here. Perfect for Rugby. Thank you Roger for thinking of me (but I agree, you are still a 2@).

Very understandable problem.
But given that it is a BIG international contest - watched not just by us in the six nations but further through Europe and around the world, and given that such games bring business and money, and given that there will always be a visiting horde who will be looking to get to hotels etc, and given the amount of cordination always needed between different services during a big game (police, transport etc) - WHY is there not a special service in operation for trains on that specific night to keep travelling past normal hours and facilitate the easy dispersal of crowds who have places to go to after the game?
It seems to be half a job done by organisers when they decide to hold Friday games but seem to refuse to link in transport requirements for such an event?

And that is why they are doing it, more money from the tele people, so that we pay our stadium off quicker, and line Rogers pockets.

Yeah. I like the Friday game as a TV spectacle.
I don't think it's the thing that needs fixing but obviously the Welsh could look at their Transport plans around the event and create a more sympathetic environment, especially since those Friday games look like continuing into the future.
Respect the fans and prepare the transport ground sufficiently for them.

Re: THANKS AGAIN ROGER -"you not very nice person"
These Friday night games are absolutely f***ing annoying, and not liked by most fans. They are a b!oody nightmare to get to, unless you take the day off (accept some work shifts, so same applies for Sat games). Then they are a night game, so you have no or little time to enjoy the "after match" atmos and as said, the pre-match requires a day off work. The commute home if near impossible, as public transport in Cardiff/Wales stops at 11pm... On what planet does Roger think these are a good idea..
Also, when these first happened, we where sold the LIE (and yes we now know it was a BARE FACED LIE) that they where wanted by the French. So how come its only Wales that has continued them.. We are also told they are a success.. Well wake up Lewis, the consensus here and other boards don't back that up.
The problem is that Wales has one of the most dedicated set of supporters (for internationals, before we get into Regional attendance debate), and we always turn up. If we want these stopped we have to stop attending Friday night games to hit the WRU in the pocket. But, I know that will never happen, so I'm afraid we are stuck with these Friday night encounters for the foreseeable future...
IMO, all the games should be played on a Saturday.. I'm sure that would be more favourable to all supporters. The issue here, is the BBC doesn't mind rescheduling "I got a Voice so let me Strictly Dance around the Lottery" for 1 day (ie.. The FINAL day) but they wont want to do it on a regular basis. Lets face it, unless England are playing the games get pushed to BBC2 or BBC3 (and that's going)..

Sunday games are easier to commute to, I do not like either, as if you want a good day out on a Sunday, it usually means taking a Monday off work, but at least you have a chance of getting home on a Sunday.

Simply the infrastructure cant cope with it... They do put on 1 more train (Valley line) on the late Friday night game (not sure if they doing tonight), but they cant run the trains later than that... Someone in Caerphilly Council transport dept., told me they aren't allowed to run trains past a certain hour, due to the closeness of the line to residential properties, ie. noise of train will keep people awake !! And as most valley lines are the same as the Rhymney one (ie.. run close to residential properties) I guess that is the same ruling on all Valley lines. Hence the S. Wales infrastructure wont cope with late night events..

"Seven extra trains will be laid on as thousands of rugby fans descend on Cardiff for 2015's first Six Nations game.
More than 70,000 people are expected in the Millennium Stadium to watch Wales and England.
Arriva Trains Wales will make more than 13,000 extra seats available and First Great Western will provide an additional 3,500.
Fans are advised to go to the station after the match to avoid long queues.

More than 70,000 people are expected in the Millennium Stadium to watch Wales and England.
Arriva Trains Wales will make more than 13,000 extra seats available and First Great Western will provide an additional 3,500.
Fans are advised to go to the station after the match to avoid long queues.

Just thinking about it, could it be that the Friday Night game actually benefits Wales?
After all when they play Scotland in the second round they will have had an extra days rest.
This applies every year that they play a Friday game, one days more rest than their round two opponent.
Why its always the WRU, I don't know, maybe the other Unions don't think its that much of an advantage and would rather have happy fans. Maybe the WRU think the advanage is more important than the small section of fans it upsets.

Seven extra trains... However, there are seven Valley Lines (I believe, Rhymney/Merthyr/Ebbw/Aberdare/Abertillery/Maesteg/Barry) so that's 1 EXTRA train per line, or maybe 2 on a busy line and none on others.. (I'm assuming). Either way, with only 3 carriages per train, its not exactly a solution to the problem is it..
Also, "declined to provide the times"... so what f***ing good is that.. "Yes, we're putting on more trains, but you guess when you've got to be at the station to catch them..". What a load of boll*cks..

Agreed and I must admit, I laughed out loud when I read that last bit.

Out of interest, I thought I'd check the National Rail web site for train times tomorrow.. Interestingly all trains schedules are the same up to 10:30pm.. Then at 11:35pm we seem to have LOADS of trains all going to different places at the same time... (for the Rhymney/Merthyr/Ebbw Valleys that is - for Maesteg, you have to catch the 10:25pm or find another way home - other lines, well have to check yourself.. I lost the will to live ) .
So that means that either, Arriva, haven't a clue what EXTRA lines to run, and will decide on the night, or they have found a way around the laws of physics and can have more than one object (train in this case) being in the exact same place at the exact same time...
WHAT A FARCE...
