Re: THANKS AGAIN ROGER -"you not very nice person"
I took the train to Cardiff 1999, for the opening RWC game Wales vs Argentina.
That's right, THE train, as there was only one.
Laid on by Wales & West, from Nottingham, via Bham, Gloucester (my station) and all stops to Cardiff.
It was an hour late to Gloucester, so you can imagine the huge expectant crowd as it rolled in.
Here it comes, all TWO carriages. I jammed aboard with one of Glaws 2nd row giants. Standing only. And we picked up more crowds all the way to Cardiff.
It was Thomas The Tank Engine is thrown willy nilly into a 21st C. World Event.
Wales & West and the RWC 1999, a complete joke.

After all when they play Scotland in the second round they will have had an extra days rest.
This applies every year that they play a Friday game, one days more rest than their round two opponent.
Why its always the WRU, I don't know, maybe the other Unions don't think its that much of an advantage and would rather have happy fans. Maybe the WRU think the advanage is more important than the small section of fans it upsets.
Only if the Friday night game is first up (Which it is this year. That isn't always the case). If the Friday game is the 2nd game of the 6N, for example, then we get less recovery time than other teams (apart from the one we're playing!). Sunday games would have a similar problem too, which we have again this year!

Ah right, I always thought the Friday night game was used to start the tournament, looks like it can fall on any week.
Only reason that makes sense that the WRU always get it, is they get more money for it. Otherwise it would rotate.

Would it be beyond the local transport operators to put on a later service for match-goers?

For anyone traveling by train to the game, here's the link with info...
http://www.arrivatrainswales.co.uk/6Nations/
So in summary from what I have "bold" above... You will probably have to queue for 1 HOUR before getting into the station, the last train to Birmingham (and stations along that route) is 21:50, but they do realise the game wont finish till 22:00. So most will have to exit the ground and go straight to the 1 HOUR queue to get home, otherwise you are not likely to get on a train. AND if you're destination is Abergavenny (Birmingham route) then you need to leave at half time. For those lucky enough to see the whole game, lets hope there's no considerable stoppage time...
WHAT AN ABSOLUTE JOKE...
(oh and if you do go to the link, I particularly like the way it shows the times of the "first" trains on the Saturday.. )

Arriva 6 Nations notice wrote:
Rail Travel Advice: 2015 RBS 6 Nations Wales vs England Match Friday 6 February 2015, Late Kick Off at 20:05hrs
◦Trains to Cardiff will be busy all day especially late afternoon and evening
◦Passengers advised to return to Cardiff Central Station directly after the match
◦Limited extra services and capacity will be available after the match due to late kick off.
◦Station queuing system will be in place at Cardiff Central - wrap up warm!
◦Last train towards Birmingham at 21.50 (Cross Country Service)
◦Cardiff Queen Street station will be closed after 21.20
◦Timetable amendments to some early morning ATW Valleys and Cardiff / Bridgend services on Saturday 07 February
A full capacity crowd is expected at the Millennium Stadium Cardiff on Friday 06 February for the 2015 RBS 6 Nations Wales v England international. Trains to Cardiff will be busy all day especially late afternoon and evening. Customers not travelling to the rugby match are strongly advised to travel at alternative times if possible.
Arriva Trains Wales and First Great Western are advising those planning to travel home by train after the match that limited additional services and capacity will be available.
Due to the late 20:05 hrs kick off, the match will not finish until around 22:00hrs so we are urging supporters who want to return home on the train to make their way directly to Cardiff Central Station.
Arriva Trains Wales has worked hard to add as much extra capacity and services as possible after the match (over 13,000 additional seats compared to normal Friday evening services) however the Valleys and Cardiff, West Wales, Crewe, Cheltenham Spa, Newport and Ebbw Vale services are expected to be extremely busy.
As only limited extra capacity and services will be available, Valleys and Cardiff, West Wales, Crewe, Cheltenham Spa, Newport and Ebbw Vale services are expected to be extremely busy.
First Great Western will provide seven additional trains, providing almost 3,500 extra seats to take fans home, as well as adding carriages to usual timetabled services.
The last Birmingham train will leave Cardiff Central at 21:50 hrs. (Cross Country service)
Passengers are advised to arrive at Cardiff Central Station well in advance of scheduled departures.
Ticket checks will be in operation before and after the game so passengers are advised to buy their tickets in advance to avoid ticket queues.
The usual post-event queuing management system will be in place at Cardiff Central station after the match, allowing passengers to board their train in the most efficient and safe manner. The queuing plan is available below. Please note that for this event, there will be no Birmingham queue and the usual Gloucester queue has been renamed Cheltenham Spa. There will be a London queue and a separate Bristol queue. Please wrap up warm as you may need to wait for up to an hour before being allowed into the station to board your train.
Cardiff Queen Street station will be closed after 21.20.
To ensure safety and security of our passengers and employees, there will be an additional staff and British Transport Police presence at our stations and on board trains to enforce acceptable behaviour.
There is more detail if you click on the link... but images and maps not easy to cut n paste here

Look will you all stop being so demanding!!!
The extra trains WILL be there! All at the same time and waiting patiently for you all to trip and stumble your ways to the station in levels of drunkedness.
OKAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?????
Okay???
Good. So far so good.
Now - when at the station - all bets are off. There'll be a number of trains, but they're not going to tell you where they're going or when they'll be leaving. But they'll be demanding you make your minds up promptly and stumble onto the train of your choice anyway.
It'll kinda be a magic roundabout kind of musical chairs kinda thing that should add to the fun and a great night will be had by all.
Getting home????
Nope, never came up in the plans as a necessary extra.

Traveling down to Cardiff with the sunset in my eyes
Traveling on the Valley train eating Peters pies
Dai and Trev and Bob make mobile calls
A dragon army crammed wall to wall
Valley ladies telling jokes all blue
Sweeping thoughts of games from my mind
Have to get that ball away before their pack can bind
Hope the games that lie ahead
Bring us back to where we've led
Glistening silverware for us wooden spoon for you
Wouldn't you know we're riding on Millennium Stadium Express
Wouldn't you know we're riding on Millennium Stadium Express
Lewis robbing me of my cash
All aboard the train, all aboard the train
I've been saving all my money to see the game there
I smell the Brains SA in your stinky hair
Take the train from Bangor heading south
Dribbling Brains SA from my mouth
Red scarfs hang in the air
Charming Valley Girls in the square
Pink cowboy hats we can wear at home Well, let me hear you now
Wouldn't you know we're riding on Millennium Stadium Express
Wouldn't you know we're riding on Millennium Stadium Express
Lewis robbing me of my cash
Wouldn't you know we're riding on Millennium Stadium Express
Wouldn't you know we're riding on Millennium Stadium Express
Lewis robbing me of my cash
All on board the train, all on board the train
All on board

Re: THANKS AGAIN ROGER -"you not very nice person"
I'm pretty sure the late night Friday atmosphere was partly to blame for the nasty under current at the game. It has been widely reported including in the western ma of welsh fans booing the English anthem, booing the English players entering the pitch and a hostile unfriendly atmosphere on the streets. That's disgusting and a real shame. Please no more Friday nights. Rugby doesn't want this sort of fan.

I live in Monmouthshire, so not that far from Cardiff. On Friday I left the ground immediately after the game. By the time I'd waited in the cold for a train and again in Newport for a taxi it was 12.40am when I got home. Hate Friday night games.

Re: THANKS AGAIN ROGER -"you not very nice person"
As I have numerous times before the WRU and Lewis in particular doesn't give a flying feck about the fans all he is interested in is his own self importance and money.
I would love him to at least come out and try to justify how Friday night games benefit anyone other than those in the immediate vicinity of Cardiff and also why after saying we won't have anymore Friday night games we have another two over the next 2 years.
Man is a complete an utter slimeball

Don't you get it? Friday Night games are perfect.
Drunk cnuts already in town following work can turn up the to stadium, have a bit of a disco and boogie before hand courtesy of the light show and a musical megamix by world renowned artist DJ Spoony and then watch a bit of rugby if they're bothered.

Didn't actually mean to infer the North incident in truth but when I wrote it I realised how timely it sounded so for creative licencing reasons, I left it there.

http://www.southwalesargus.co.uk/sport/11788521.CHRIS_KIRWAN__WRU_must_take_the_lead_in_setting_the_tone_of_international_matchday_in_Cardiff/
WHEN I moved to Wales I made sure that I got my family tickets for the next visit of Scotland to the Millennium Stadium in the Six Nations.
It was a chance for my mum from the Highlands to cheer on the boys in blue and my dad and brother to experience the famous Cardiff atmosphere on international day.
They didn't have a bad time despite the result – part two on Wales' journey to the 2008 Grand Slam – but the occasion was slightly sullied by the frequency of those around them getting up around them for drinks while it was an afternoon kick-off so thankfully they only saw the tipsy build-up to the drunken mayhem on the streets of the capital.
So to quote John Toshack quoting Bill Shankly, the only thing that surprises me is that people are surprised when it comes to the debauchery at the England game last Friday.
It has been coming for years and the current atmosphere has been actively encouraged.
There is always a danger of romanticising past decades and I don't speak from experience like many of you as my youth was spent at Welford Road and my only trip to the old National Stadium was to watch Brive dish out a Heineken Cup final hammering in 1997.
But I have seen a shift in the eight years that I have been covering internationals and can see that Wales is in danger of losing the very thing it is famous for; a genuine rugby welcome.
Go to clubs (rugby, not night) and you will hear from plenty of folk that say that the Millennium Stadium is no longer a place for them.
It can be a different kind of loud, brash and with booming music during breaks in play rather than Calon Lan, while the behaviour can be mystifying (one man, beer in hand, seem surprised when his autumn singsong of "If you all hate Fiji clap your hands" failed to catch on).
You certainly cannot pin all of the blame on the Welsh Rugby Union because there are greater social issues at work here and the scenes at the southern end of St Mary's Street will be horrendous tomorrow evening, just as they were last Friday.
But the governing body ARE in a position to shift the emphasis of international matchday back towards the 'organic' atmosphere of years gone by. They can set the tone.
It is often said in disparaging terms that Wales games are full of event-goers yet that should always be the case, it’s just that at the moment it’s the wrong sort of event
