Scored....
4-2 now with 10 minutes to go, that should have broken reading, but if they can get a quick goal then it'll be a grandstand finish!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Dave Jones couldnt manage the locker room by all accounts. Hwo he let the players go out drinking to god knows when before the last but one game beggers belief - he should have thrown the book at them.
~unfortunately whoever comes in will have a much reduced squad next season and will get the blame.

Come on the Swans...never thought I'd be rooting for a football team, but they're on the verge of history...it's been a loooong time since a Welsh team got into the premiership.

Just with a side in the EPL, is it possible it would affect turnout at rugby games?

I wouldn't have thought so. I think numbers will stay pretty much the same in rugby, although it may increase the interest in football.

Swansea win 4-2, hatrick for Scott Sinclair including 2 penalties.
And in the cricket England have Sri Lanka 43-6 in the second innings with about 30 overs left to bowl. Sri Lanka need another 53 to make England have to bat again. Could get a result which will be fantastic considering the amount of time lost to the weather.

Jacks up! Good for them though, only eight years ago the club was going bust.
The last time Wales had anyone in the top football leagues was in 1982 - and that was when it was the old Division One.

Aye probably. I won't be one of them mind. I'm glad they made it cause it's a good advert for Welsh sport. I live in Bluebirds territory anyway. I can just about get away with wearing my old Neath/Swansea Ospreys shirt around here

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
well what a game of football, thought it was all over at half time but a match was definitely made of it! Chuffed for Swansea, they've made history, but I'm worried about the affect it will have on rugby attendances. Both Scarlets and Ospreys have fans who follow both rugby and football, can see those almost neutral fans choosing the footy over rugby next season for sure. Hope it doesn't have too big affect on crowd numbers but what I'm most worried about is the next generation of fans. In Swansea especially I can see them going the way of football. Fingers crossed I'm just being a pessimist and nothing too bad for rugby will come from this!

Pete - I'm glad the cricket has gotten some good play in so far today, was worried it would be rained off. Should be a good last day of cricket I hope

The 'Library' has a capacity of 20,500, The Swans average attendance is 15,500 this season so at most 5,000 'new' fans
Bandwagon ? Bandwagon ? I used to take a 2 hour trip up to The Vetch from Pembrokeshire in the 'Tosh Years 78-84 ' (was more of a Tosh fan than an out and out Swan)

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
ah Penfro, but where will these new 5,000 fans come from? I hope not that they come from rugby, but tis most definitely a possibility, although not a big one.
Still, on a more cheerful note, tis great for Welsh football, and no bandwagon jumping from me. The only football match I still have only ever been to is Wales v Lichtenstein, and I doubt I'll ever go to another one!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Penfro - well I'd hope not. I do know of a fair few people down Llanelli way that support both the Swans and the Scarlets (weirdly enough) and now that Swansea have gone up there's a fair chance of them going to support them instead. I don't doubt that's the same for some O's fans, I just hope it isn't in big numbers.
I'm relaxing with the tennis at the moment. Murray seems to have overcome his injury and is making a fightback to try and level it at 5-5 in the first set after being 5-0 down.
Ah oh dear as I type that, Murray fails to break and loses the first set 6-4.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Hughie - like I said, I'm not jumping on the bandwagon, I only wanted them to get to the premiership because they're a Welsh side and would make history. I would've thought the same if it was Wrexham or Cardiff. I'm not bothered about following them next season.
I don't think the rugby fans will suddenly become football fans. Like I said, I don't think it'll make much difference to the rugby audience. You might get the odd person buying a match ticket when Swansea play a big side like Arsenal or something.

We are called the jacks by the cultchies. It's not something we like, has connotations with the union jack. The womens team are nicknamed the Jackies.
I'm watching the full HC final build up, half time and post match reaction and i'm not even going to apologise!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Evening all!! Not to bring back the Munster v Leinster talk from yesterday but according to Schmidt, Leinster wanted to win but Munster needed to win. That an accurate comment?
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
In the cold light of day I think he's right Stag. I walked out of Thomond disappointed but not desolate, had we not won last week I would have been a pile of crumbs. We did want it, and we wanted it a lot. But for Munster they needed it, Munster can now hold their head up and say they had a good season, had they lost it would have been serious doom and gloom down south.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I have to say I'm glad it was Leinster we beat. For the simple reason that I feel it has been a shot in the arm we needed and I don't think beating Ospreys or Ulster would have been the same thing for us. Last week Munster watched Leinster win the European Cup and the feeling was there was a massive gap between us and them. We were able to close that gap in our minds.

I wish those guys would come over here. Perhaps they will in disguise 8)
I haven't really said goodbye to anyone over there.
Staggy - I've seen a few other names I recognise on here, and I persuaded some of the GAA lads to come over.

Its big selling point is that it looks like 606 - but you cant do things like PM, polls, edit etc
its only really good for people who dont like change.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Stag, Munsty explained this at the time but to be honest i've forgotten the answer.
In the HC final, why did Poite ask "is there any reason i cannot award the try" for Hartley but asked "Try? Yes or no" for Darcy?
In what situation do you ask either question?

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Right Mick,
"Try or No Try" = "I haven't seen anything. Can you see a legitimate try being scored". Referee needs the TMO to actually see a try being scored. There is no benefit of doubt given to attacking team. Referee has seen nothing and needs TMO to say "yes I can see the try". If the footage is inconclusive the referee awards an attacking 5m scrum.
"Is there any reason I can't award the try". Referee asks this when he has seen that a try is being scored but is asking the TMO whether there is any reason that prevents it. If the footage is inconclusive the referee awards the try.
In 2007 Ireland & France both finished level at top of 6 Nations. France won on points difference. In the dying minutes of the final game Elvis Vermuelen scored against Scotland to bring them ahead on points difference. The try went to TMO where Craig Joubert asked "any reason I can't award the try". You could see nothing on the TV. If he had asked "is it a try", then Ireland would have won the 2007 6 Nations title.

Worthy of websters. Cheers pal. Doesn't explain why he did that in this situation though, both looked as inconclusive (in real time and slow mo) as eachother. Ah thankfully it's all academic now!
I remember that day, Elvis broke my heart. It was paddy's day too if i'm not mistaken.

As to the reason for the two his position was the deciding factor. He was happy that Hartley dotted down the ball and wanted to check if there were any other factors that would rule it out. He saw nothing for the Leinster try.
