World Cup 2015
First topic message reminder :
Warm Up game between Ind and Aus ongoing...
it's an official ODI...though after so much cricket why do these sides need a "warm-up"
India's bowling in melt-down and the two most dangerous guys in Aus side Warner and Maxwell get 100s
Looks like Ind will be chasing 375

Re: World Cup 2015
If Masakadza and Williams play well, they can chase 300+. Especially Williams who can hit it a long mile. Mire can also hit it long, so they bat quite deep. Almost like Australia-Lite.
Don't really have a second cricket team, but I certainly hope Zim win any match they are involved in which doesn't involve us.

Keep thinking he's slightly mishit a few of those 15 sixes but they are all clearing the rope. A few massive ones too.
I'd forgotten that he hasn't scored a 150 since 2004. 200 on the cards here.

From going from 100 - 200, Gayle didn't seem to need many balls. I wonder if it could be even be less than the quickest ton...

First ever world cup double hundred
I don't get the windies, they were dreadful against Ireland and now have put in two very powerful performances. Maybe they are dark horses afterall!

No true, Nachos. Fair statement!
Your guys completely outplayed them that day... created the pressure to make them fail.
You convincingly won the mind game war that day; unlike Zimbabwe thus far today.
Sort of like your rugby team is also playing too - skilled players so full of confidence and they know they have what it takes to win a match.

Samuels SR 85. 250+ in the last 25 overs. This is cricket ladies and gentlemen, but not as we know it.
UAE better bat first for the entire tournament because things have changed

Re: World Cup 2015
So the highest individual score from Chris Gayle of 215 runs and the highest ever partnership of 372 runs for a WC match.
1 wicket on the 2nd ball of the day... and another on the very last ball of the innings.
Samuels on 133* bats through the innings.
They were 220/1 after 40 overs... so they made 152 runs off the last 10.
Now that's proper batting!

A good innings by Samuels in the end...133 not out from 156 balls.
But that 215 by Gayle!
The West Indies are a frustrating side to support...lose to Ireland, then hammer Pakistan, and now this!

Hang in there Shiv. They could finish with a wet sail... now they've got the smell of scoring again.
That RT from President Cameron seemed to do the trick! Got Gayle fired up all right.

Raf,
Lots of staff involved there. Hussey gave a little insight into the system the other day... it was quite interesting. He said it felt a bit strange to put on a Protea's shirt on his first day in the office but couldn't speak highly enough of the players and support staff.
Wonder what happens if there's a SA-Aus match down the track? I'd love to be a fly on the wall to hear what he says about the opposition's batting strengths/weaknesses.
yes just more people with access to TV and cable TV in Ind now
and the entire population of Pakistan watching this game as opposed to the final that did not involve Pak

Re: World Cup 2015
Its like the 100 m in 10 sec barrier...once it was broken.....it was emulated by many.
the 200 in an ODI barrier was broken by Tendulkar and since then many have done it.......and it was inevitable Gayle would do it....
Has to be an opener...a big hitter...a FTB....against a weak bowling...easy match conditions using the T20 expericne in last 10 overs....on a small ground and in good form....and all most of parameters converged today....
if ABDV opens.....he is also likely to achieve this feat.....Warner might one day and also Mcculum if they find a weak attack on a flat pitch and are on song.
Watch out for Rohit Sharma......he has 3 games coming up against UAE, Zim and Ire.....he is a minnow bashing opening batsman.....and might be licking his lips at the prospects of a 3rd double hundred.
The limited over game has EVOLVED so much

Windies need to get one, maybe even two spinners on to make sure there are enough overs for this to be a game

Problem with that is Windies don't have particularly good slow bowlers. West Indies might climb into a good 20 over score!!

Looks similar to here. Low clouds with occasional drizzle - although we've had no rain a bit further north.
It's always a few degrees cooler in Canberra at night (about 18 deg. there now).
Doesn't feel as though there will be heavy rain though... but those clouds do look quite dark.

True - maybe get that man Gayle on, he's having a decent day so far!
3 wickets down now, no idea what the 20 over target would be but I think Windies could bowl their spinners and win easily from here

Ireland has shown in all 3 games their batting is good.
They did nearly 280 vs. SA and will finish with no less today.
Their bowling appears club class with the way Gayle, De Villiers Miller have feasted on them

I actually see a lot of similarities in the Windies and Ireland. Both teams are able to score big (Windies, 3 matches 3 times over 300) but their bowling is the weak link. I can see Ireland getting out of this group, especially as Pakistan look in worse shape than England, but I don't see them going further.

Re: World Cup 2015
This group has the potential to be a mess. SA and India should be safe you'd imagine, but the West Indies already lost to Ireland, and will almost certainly lose to Ind and SA. That gives them three wins, should they beat UAE. Ireland have the one win, and should see off UAE. Don't know if they can beat Zim and Pak, but 1/2 should be reasonable. Zim can beat both UAE and Ireland, and maybe even Pakistan. And no one knows before hand which Pakistan shows up.

Hopefully we can beat UAE.
Zimbabwe could be close.
A repeat of 07 against Pakistan would be great.
But think they will be to strong.
Losses to India & South Africa.

Ireland should beat Zimbabwe and the UAE.
If they peak at the correct time, they should also defeat one of Pakistan or India.
NRR could be vital, though, so a resounding win could be imperative against the UAE.

UAE 278-9 after 50 overs.
Gonna be interesting to see if we can 279.
Got the target v West Indies, gotta be confident we can get the win.

Re: World Cup 2015
Given that Ireland is aspirant of a full status.......their show with the ball vs. UAE is unimpressive....
It's UAE....not even a decent club structure and a side made up of immigrant workers i their 30s mostly.....and Ire conceded 280 runs.
and I would bet on UAE winning..... classic runs on the board situation....they have a few decent fast medium bowlers and remaining part-timers...but just about enough to choke out a 20 run victory here

Amjad Javed to Joyce, no run, bowled him! Or is it? Oh man. That was the yorker on off stump, and it hurried through Joyce before he could bring his bat down. Hit the side of off stump, the off bail went off its groove, all lit up, only to land back in it. How unlucky is that?
terribly unlucky that....and it wasn't a whisked past barely touching the stumps.......it was a yorker that hit the off-stump.
Shows the bails are too heavy
and that the stump is rooted too heavily into the ground and also likely the soil too wet around the stump

Not looking good for Ireland now. I agree with Atherton that they've looked scratchy and, unlike the West Indies game, never really in control with the bat.
Still time for Ireland to turn it round but one more quick wicket would be near awful for them ....

93/2 off 23.
Westy - looking on the positive side for you, Ireland won't let their run chase fizzle out. So you could say that UAE have to take 8 wickets in 27 overs - that doesn't sound so easy!
B*gg*r! B*gg*r! B*gg*r! Just before I send that smarty arse post, Porterfield falls. Make that 7 wickets in 26 overs. UAE now firm favourites ....
