Not often I say a stoppage was premature but that was premature.

Rose should have hung on and tied him up but with 20s of the round left the ref made a bad decision.

Eddie Hearn looks furious.

Brian Rose's Amir Khan impression was pretty decent to be fair.

Eddie Hearn is at fault for this, IJL is the most incompetent referee in the world, he has a history of making horrendous errors, why the hell did you let him do this fight???

That being said, I think Carson Jones would have got to him at some stage anyway, IJL should be banned, some of his score cards in Prize Fighter were questionable at best.

Wow thought Carson jones retired?? Next news, I tune in to prizefighter, and he is smashing Roses face in and he is all over the freaking place, and Dr Premature jumps in to save him. What the hell?

Was that fight a joke that back fired I take it??

This is the same IJL who didn't stop the Vitali v Briggs fight.

I though IJL looked a bit tired before the fight. Maybe looking for an early stoppage after already ref'ing in Prize Fighter.

Shocker from IJL. He really is the worst.

You may be right Strongback. If anyone is in a carpool with Ian John Lewis they might wanna get their stuff together now because he clearly isn't sticking round.

They should suspend him, he is so incompetent its ridiculous

The sad reality is as soon as I saw the referee I had a feeling something like this would happen... I never want to see him as a referee for anything more than a 4 rounder ever again.

DJ, boxing has ways attracted kids from the wrong side of the tracks. When you've got someone like Brian Rose, with his background, the mean streets of Blackpool. Its a ticking time bomb. Eventually he was bound to do something like kick a miniature traffic cone.

Look, it's a violent business.

Think the red has urinated on his Matchroom chips now, be surprised to see him chosen again any time soon. If he was reffing Froch Groves 1, Froch would have been stopped in the first round!

I didn't expect Rose to get so badly hurt by a single shot from a welterweight especially one with a 50% KO record.

The Andrade fight must have taken a lot out of Rose.

Terry was pulling away in the second half and Ormond got frustrated. Used his head and got DQ'd. Stupid as it was a pretty close fight early and he's got a great engine.

Ormond let himself down there. Should have taken the loss and not looked for a way out. Flanagan looks decent. Him and Crolla would be a good match-up. Only thing is the lack of pop in his punches.

Strange night all round.

Stoppage wasn't as bad as people are making out, took a lot of punches unanswered. Rose is experienced enough to know to take a knee there, and to be honest it would have ended that round anyway, 30 seconds left and Jones wasn't going let him off the hook.

It really was bad, if fights got stopped that early boxing would die and we would have missed many great fights. IJL is just incompetent and shouldn't referee/judge anything remotely important ever again. Like Rose said, he wasn't given the chance to see if he could come through a crisis, all fighters should be allowed that chance.

The referees are in a no win situation, if he stops it there then it's to early, if the next punch does serious damage its too late, it's clear that he has nothing left after the Andrade fight and as for Sky moaning about it, they'd be screaming about a good stoppage if it was the other way.

He knows how boxing works, he either needs to firebacks, grab hold or take a knee instead he stood their and took unanswered punches. Rose can complain all he wants but the fact is he gave the referee a decision to make and he made the decision to stop it. Funny that this has drawn more criticism than the ref who let a fight go on while the fighter was telling him to stop it as he had nothing left.

How's it Love sacks truss? You'd moan if they stopped it late, you moan if they stop it early, that's the definition of a no win situation. Had Rose been trying to do something to change the tide or even work through the situation I'd agree, fact is he wasn't. He can complain all he wants, the fact is he was rocked by a welterweight who is hardly a knock out artist.

A win in that situation would be stopping it at the right time, it doesn't jump from early to late, there is that inbetween when a fight should be stopped, when IJL is involved he never gets it right.

On here he gets no end of stick, plenty of fans have no issues with the stoppage as like me, they feel he saved Rose from getting his face punched in for the next 20 seconds before the stoppage comes. It's not as if Rose isn't hurt is it.

Also the person who said Rose walking out of the ring is the worst thing a boxer has ever done, are you serious?

The thing is Hampo this is boxing, it has risks if you're too worried about someone getting a beating you are watching the wrong sport, the stoppage was early and pathetic. Boxers get hurt, they also frequently recover to come back and win, Rose did not get a chance to do that.

What's that go to do with Truss? But then when do your posts have much to do with anything.

I personally don't think Rose recovers, he showed no signs of being able to ride out what was happening. If he's serious about doing anything with the rest of his career he shouldn't be getting rocked badly, twice, by a light punching welterweight.

Bit of a misnomer to call Jones a Welterweight Hampo, he's a 154lber who can boil down to the 147lb limit, he's huge at that weight but you can't write somebody off because they get rocked.

If we stopped every fight where a guy gets rocked we wouldn't be watching a lot of boxing.

Stoppage was too soon for m. Generally think fights are stopped too soon now. Appreciate all the trite, obvious stuff about better too soon than too late, but boxing is dangerous, always has been and unless we are to sanitise it to the point we ruin it, it always will be and always should be.

Some of the greatest moments in the sport have come from when fighters have turned round seemingly lost causes and come back from the brink. Can only be thankful IJL was not the third man in the ring from Dempsey Firpo or Moore Durelle.

What gets me is this constant argument that because it's a "tough" job it's all right to get it slightly wrong !!!!..

It's not !! ...............These guys have families and they sacrifice much for their job........

Every defeat leaves a fighter with a capacity to earn less............

He should have been allowed a chance to get back into it..

Tyson v Ruddock all over again !!........and guess who stopped that !

How many more times can IJL screw up yet still be allowed near a boxing ring?!

Just imagine if he'd ref'd:

Pac vs JMM 1: doesn't get beyond a round

Frock vs Groves 1: doesn't get beyond a round

Castillo vs Corales 1: Foty gets stopped after the first knockdown

Etc

Etc

Not saying let them fight until one is unconscious, but IJL needs to be put in a retirement home.

One of the main reasons I prefer boxing to MMA is due to the shorter rounds and 10 count rule boxers are given a chance to recover. In MMA once someone takes a heavy shot and goes down it's usually game over.

Rose may we'll have been stopped later on but there's no way that wasn't a premature stoppage. Like what McRory said at the time, it looks like IJL steps in, bottles it then jumps in again. Pure incompetence and terrible management of the situation. Just an eyesore.

Hampo sorry, I have a lot of time for your comments but on this one, I'm with Truss et al.

These lads have a living to provide. If it had happened in the later rounds of a tough fight, I would condone it. But, it happened after Rose had rocked Jones, he was back peddling to the ropes and there were only 20s left.

It was premature. Thinking back, if we applied the same strict criterion to past fights most of the great fights would have been stopped and the opposing fighter won. Herol Graham would have won a world title for a start, which would have made me happy.
