As a proud England rugby fan this is very hard for me to say but I find Sir Clive a really annoying pundit.

Don't feel bad. As a proud Ireland rugby fan I find it very easy to say whisper-butt Keith Wood "I just think they're doing in-CRED -ibly well" was a great player but ain't nearly so hot as a sixty second adlibber.

Can't believe nobody has nominated Mark Robson on Sky as the worst commentator in the world - "and it's Tommmaaaaay Boooooooooowe".
You Eng/Wal/Sco might think Jiffy is bad but you haven't had to put up with that fat buffoonish pantomine villain George Hook and that windbag McGurk for god knows how many years on RTE. Shows how awful they are that I've watched the BBC coverage of the 6N for the past few years rather than RTE

When i first seen this thread (time to get rid of ...Jonathan Davis.
I thought it was about the player. who got a yellow card against Scotland for taking a player out in the air.

Yeah, just forget about the try he scored that basically made the difference between winning and losing madge.

Jiffy is a much better pundit/co-commentator on League games than Union.

Re: Time to get rid of ... Jonathan Davis
Perhaps we should set up a class action against the BBC for mental anguish caused by:
Being the only channel to show the 6N.
Despite constant protest, continually foisting Jiffy on the rugby watching public
Causing GBH to the ears with his whining voice
Being racist towards anyone that wasn't Welsh
I could go on.........................

Hmmm, I'm not actually sure that's a step up. There was a time when I'd chase over to BBC when I heard what the RTE panel had to say before the game, at half time and after the end. I liked hearing all the different points of view. But now I just stick to RTE... Guscott's face - eternally closest to the camera (Principle Pundit Privilege???) - just got too much. It's just too brief and sound bytie a presentation. 30 seconds each and that's it.

Just like to add I like both Jiffy and Moore, both very insightful, the one that gets up my nose is Inverdale, always pushing the England angle, even if they are not involved.

I like Moore too and i'd love to see Jiffy and Butler get there own show providing they're let loose to really let rip btw. The opposite to ChumV if you like. A different guest ref every week as a pundit might be good as well.

I love seeing Jiffy and Jeremy together their banter is brilliant it makes the after match discussions a lot of fun.
Andy Nicol I always feel sorry for, he's so bloody optermistic all the time, and Scotland always crush his hopes.
I always thought Scott Quinell was a lot of fun as well.

Jonathan Davies was far more excited about Scotland's play on Sunday than Wales'.
Russell put in the worst kick you can imagine - kicked it dead by about 20 metres and gave Wales a scrum deep in Scottish territory - and Jiffy was praising it for about 5
Minutes.

Yet apparently he said nothing good about Scotland all game. I smell a conspiracy

But you've got to be honest though, he's not in good form. His ex team mate is in great form...well before his injury. I'd still like for him to be dropped and changes to the bench.

I'd love to think madge was referring to that, but he wasn't. Would I rather Scott Williams be at 13, form wise? Yes.

Is he the Northern Irish guy? I think he's great, though that may be biased by the fact that he's commentated on a few great Quins moments.

He's irreplaceable. Who else has eyebrows that brush the ceiling and looks like they smell like pee?
Just remember:

Agree with this - he was arguably a better League player as well.

George Hook has the value of being entertaining and sometimes very insightful.
Tom McGurk on the other hand is a ignorant bore who knows sweet fa about the game.

Re: Time to get rid of ... Jonathan Davis
But I don't see why presenters always get flak when people talk about pundits.
Presenters aren't there to know everything about rugby - they're there to encourage discussion, keep the time, keep the director happy who is shouting in their ear to 'Get Hook to shut the F**k up, there is a VT coming in three!!', keep the arguments going, keep the 'know-nothing' watchers interested.
They have a detailed job to do which is quite distinct from talking rugby schit

BTW, its fun to see O'Gara squirm in discomfort sometimes as he quickly finds out the 'crap talking on a TV screen' ain't as easy as he probably claimed it might have been when a player.
He sometimes gets oh so self conscious and the speech slows way, way, way..... McGurk (interrupting the silence) "Okay, we gotta take a break, be back in a moment"

And usually they have their producer in their ear saying "we're going to run a clip of Jonny's drop goal again" and "ask them to compare this grand slam winning side to the England team in 2003", etc

The peak audience for Wales/England on BBC was just short of 9m. the vast majority of those will be "know nothing" watchers.

Re: Time to get rid of ... Jonathan Davis
Secret the problem is Tom McGurk things he does know what he talking about but spouts absolute nonsense.
If he stuck to being just a presenter it would fine.
You can see George Hooks eyes rolling when another piece of crap comes out of his mouth.
As for O'Gara his delivery is slow and measured but I'll tell you what he makes more insightful and intelligent contributions to punditry, in one program, that Jiffy has made in his entire life.
