Marvel Cinematic Universe
First topic message reminder :
With both the worlds of film and television being such an exciting time for fans of Marvel, I thought it was about time v2 had it’s own thread to discuss all things MCU.
Beit upcoming films, casting speculation, reviews/chat about the latest show episodes or just general comic book chat this is the thread to do it in.
Just to give you all a flavour (if you didn’t already know) of what to expect from the MCU here’s a rundown of the confirmed upcoming films & shows you can expect to be hitting your screens in the near future!
Marvel Studios
MCU Phase 2:
Avengers: Age of Ultron 1st May 2015
Ant-Man 17th July 2015
MCU Phase 3:
Captain America: Civil War 6th May 2016
Doctor Strange 4th November 2016
Guardians of the Galaxy 2 5th May 2017
Spiderman (Marvel Reboot) 28th July 2017
Thor: Ragnarok 3rd November 2017
Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 4th May 2018
Black Panther 6th July 2018
Captain Marvel 2nd November 2018
Avengers: Infinity War Part 2 3rd May 2019
Inhumans 12th July 2019
TV Series
Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Marvel's Agent Carter
Marvel's Daredevil starts 10th April 2015
Marvel's A.K.A. Jessica Jones starts late 2015
Other Marvel Productions (outside of the MCU)
Despite not being part of the same ‘universe’ as the likes Iron man, Cap or Hulk there are still a number of Marvel characters ‘owned’ by other studios that have upcoming releases:
Fox Studios
Fantastic Four (Reboot) 7th August 2015
Deadpool 12th February 2016
X-Men Apocalypse 27th May 2016
Gambit 7th October 2016
Sony Studios
The Sinister Six 11th November 2016
So as you can see between now and 2019 there is a huge amount to get through…
What are you most looking forward to?
How do you see the Avengers storyline for instance progressing through to Infinity Wars?
How does Spiderman fit into the MCU and in what other films might he make an appearance (Civil war for instances)?
Who should play some of the unconfirmed roles such a Carol Danvers- Captain Marvel?
Was Benedict Cumberbatch the best option to play Dr Steve Strange?
Discuss all things Marvel below…

The main reason he's been criticised is because he's black mate, some "fans" feel they've taken the creative licence so far, all so seen people moaning about the new look of The Thing.

Samuel L Jackson as Nick Fury though, he kicks ass. Better than Hassellhoff's Fury . Colour isn't an issue for me, I'd be more concerned as to whether they're good for the role .

The difference there is that Jackson's Fury is based on the Ultimate Nick Fury character. I honestly am not too fussed about the race of a character as long as its justified and not for things such as marketing etc.

I wasn't aware of that Bull, but Fury in all the cartoons I seen was some beat up white guy. I agree with your point on the race of the character. Kind of reminds me of the time when someone started talking up Elba to be the next James Bond; not that I'd have a problem with it, but just seems they were doing it for no reason. I'm one of the ones who also can't picture Elba as Bond, but I remember a time when I couldn't see Craig as Bond - so I could be wrong.

Re: Marvel Cinematic Universe
They've now brought in Nick Fury's son (I think) into the Marvel U who looks a lot like SLJ
Don't care about the colour of an actors skin but it needs to fit into the story (are him and Sue now half brother and sister or not related at all?)
If the story's good and it works then noone will care afterwards.

Yeah, this was the question I was going to ask. I am by no means an expert on these things, but I thought Sue and Johnny were brother and sister? Kate Mara is lovely though. Heard good things about Jordan though, so am hopeful for the F4.

Im huge fan of Captain America, I grew up on the comics and although Cap 1 was good it didn't blow me away... Winter solider however was phenomenal, just a great story full of action and some excellent performances. Other than that I'd have to go with Spiderman, he's the quintessential marvel character... But I've hated his portrayal on screen to date... In hindsight spiderman 1 & 2 were ok/good but 3 was an abomination! Ruined the franchise for me, but I have faith in marvel to get it right.

Been confirmed that there will be no post credits scene in Age of Ultron. Slightly disappointed as it always seems to give you some indication as to where the next MCU film is heading. There seems to be a lot going on in the new Avengers movie which i'm excited about should easily be 2+ hours of non stop story telling. This is why i love the MCU, with new technology and endless storylines it can be a never ending franchise. In 10 years though we may look back and say "Avengers was a terrible film" due to even better graphics etc... I mean even Winter Soldier makes Iron Man 1 look naff!

Would be interesting to know how much visual effects play into people's appreciation/enjoyment of a movie, as it's something that also features heavily in the gaming industry as well.

Having been on Eastenders he has no right joining the Marvel family, luckily it's X Men and not part of the connected universe.
Daredevil was released on Netflix yesterday, a binge watch will happening later today.

Working my way through Daredevil at the moment, it's a superb programme. Really gritty, aggressive, everything you want Daredevil to be.
However due to the level of brutality in the show I can't see it ever crossing over, they'd have to tone it down a fair bit.

I'm loving it too, done by the guy who did the Spartacus series which were very brutal and it shows in some of the deaths that have taken place so far. Only 4 episodes in but it's been a crimson gore fest.

Yeah seen that mate, "it's simple, you're all not worthy"
Looking forward to see War Machine and Iron Man actually fighting together in this film.
- Spoiler:
- I have no idea how true this is, but there was an apparent leak of the mid credits scene, it shows a guy cleaning a window and you can see the Avengers tower in the reflection. He cleans the next one and Spiderman is there. Seems a bit low key compared to previous ones though.

As my Friday nights usually involve a lot of alcohol i opted for the Friday showing as it keeps me out of trouble! Also opted for 2d as my friend as a problem with concentrating for long periods of time on the 3d and apparently makes him slightly nauseous. Non-the-less i'm sure it'll be worth all the excitement.
From what i've read regarding the mid credits scene... *SPOILER* - Was that there wasn't one? Can't wait to get on here next week to discuss the actual film though!

Yeah they showed Avengers Assemble/Winter Soldier/AoU, t was a long haul but damn it, it was worth it
The film was brilliant and I cant really say too much because a lot happens and I don't want to spoil it but it just felt 100x bigger than the last and the interactions between the characters were awesome, plus they give Hawkeye a bigger role which is great as I like the character

Just finished and wow! It's like the first avengers had sex with every other Marvel movie and then spat this out 9 months later.
I'd heard this one was darker than the first which it was, but the humour was still evident all round. Elizabeth Olsen by the way, hubba hubba!!

Yeah the actors were definitely great in their roles. But the actual Ultron himself, just wasn't that impressive and as unstoppable as was being made out. I think they included a bit too much humour too, Avengers Assemble had the right balance and for me remains the much better film (possibly the best Marvel film to date along with Winter Soldier).

They could have given Ultron a lot more screen time instead of just talking about what he was up to but then the film would have been over 3 hours long

Re: Marvel Cinematic Universe
I haven't liked many of the Marvel films, I liked Iron Man, Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy were alright but not something I'll ever re-watch most likely and I thought the Iron Man sequels and both Captain America and Thor movies were dull and predictable. I cannot understand why Captain America 2 is so lauded.
Despite this, I really enjoyed Avengers 2, I thought it was a really fun film and was better than the first one. I thought Ultron was a good villain for a film like this because you really want the focus to be on the heroes, with so many characters to juggle the fact that the villain was not as important is good so as to not have the film dragging. Let's be honest, it's not too dissimilar to the first one with all those aliens and Loki wasn't really in that one too much either, without the first Thor film to set him up he'd be pretty much the same as Ultron.

Wasn't the director quoted as saying he didn't want to do Ultron? Guess it's a money-maker (lots of it) though, and prolongs the franchise. It'll be interesting to see how all the different superhero's come together.
