That's a poor excuse, however true. Leighton Baines wouldn't get in an England D side the way he's played this season, and as for Jagielka...Martinez has really taken his eye off the ball.mystiroakey wrote:European hang over again...Azzy wrote:Everton are pathetic. How did their defence go from the envy of the league to the pity of the top half?
Well that's what they will blame it on.

Maybe the Moyes effect on the defence has worn off...Martinez's Wigan side never defended well....

Same here. Anyone who sung that needs to be banned from attending games. In addition, I'm shocked that as a moderator you not only clearly condone racism, but also find it amusing. I know you think your role around here is to be the argumentative mod who takes no prisoners, but this is a step far too far.GSC wrote:Dolphin Ziggler wrote:Edited.

Not in my opinion. West Ham "fans" have already been chanting anti-Semitic songs at Spurs. Those fans are being dealt with in the same fashion.
Having said that, Dolph appears to have misheard the chant. It was supposedly "You won't let him on a train" - which is taking the mickey out of Chelsea's racist fans, although I'd still personally shy away from it as the chant itself highlights Zouma as being a potential target for racism.
"You're not getting on the train" is an entirely different kettle of fish and I'm pleased that this wasn't actually the case. That would not have been amusing and I'd have expected an FA fine for West Ham had that been the case.

Great deal for West Ham, I heard £60k a week? You can't sign a 19 year old English CB for anything less than that these days. Hopefully he knuckles down and your fans can forgive him for the poor way he's handled the situation to this point.Dolphin Ziggler wrote:Also, rumour that Reid is set to sign a SIX year contract. I read it as they were taking the pee out of the Chelsea fans, rather than singing it at the player, which is just good old banter, imo.

I can tell you now that it was definitely you're not getting on the train and it also wasn't racist as it was making a point about Chelsea fans. You'd have to be a moron to think that's racism.
Also, that isn't my role Azzy and I'd ask you to stop putting yourself above people as some virtuous hero.
I'm not too happy to be labelled a racist, have fans of my club called such and to be spoken down to

Brilliant, yet again, spoken down to. You can't go three posts without insulting someone.
"You're not getting on the train" is a song directly sung to Zouma. Therefore, singling him out as a potential victim of racism. And certainly not clear who by either. It could as easily be construed as a threat as an observation linked to Chelsea fans' behaviour.
"You won't let him on the train" is a song directly sung to Chelsea fans. Therefore, singling them out as racists. Very clear.
I'd remind you that it wasn't just me that questioned why you'd find something like that funny. I'd also point out that no-one has labelled you a racist.
A section of your clubs fans have been banned in the last fortnight by your own club for anti-Semitic singing. A world war was fought over anti-Semitism. It's a serious issue and I think the West Ham fans need to be careful what they sing about in future, regardless of whether they are the perpetrators or merely observing.
How can we ever eradicate racism from football when fans of other clubs sing reminders to all and sundry?

Re: We Go Again! The 2014/15 Premier League Thread
I can't go three posts without insulting you, Azzy, cos you seem to spend your time crusading to show how much better than other people you are. Even in your Winston Reid post you made a sly little dig at him and our fans. Don't try and insult me with your condescending nonsense cos I'm intelligent enough to see through it.
It's quite clear, it was quite clear to the rather multi-cultural crowd we have and its quite clear to anyone with a shred of common sense. There are reference points, quite obvious ones, and I don't think that needs explanation. Even within that post you have acknowledged it, the point you're really making is without context it could have been racist if that was the intention. That's not really how you should be judging the world. Equally, Zouma is black. The lad in question in Paris was black. Seeing these things isn't racist, I'd be worried about a society that doesn't think they can even mention the race of other people. That's singling people out for different treatment due to skin colour. Regardless, the two chants are both subjecting Zouma to a label as "you" or "him" so if you find one offensive you should find both offensive.
The recent Tottenham stuff has been proven to have been old footage anyway. I'm not going to condone it, frankly I've never heard that song with the offensive bit at the end added, I didn't even realise it was part of it. Not that Tottenham are innocent in any of this with their own use of the word and calling us p****s.
You were shocked id find it funny and that I'd condone it. As well as saying same here. So really, I'm pretty offended by those egregious assumptions and within your whole post what I see as a blatant attempt to undermine me. It was nonsense, personal and extremely immature.
Personally, I think you don't eradicate something by going silent once it happens. To sing about it is similar as talking about it. It was an extremely offensive act that deserves ridicule.

Re: We Go Again! The 2014/15 Premier League Thread
Manchester United defender Jonny Evans has released a statement denying the allegations that he spit at Newcastle's Papiss Cisse on Wednesday night.
The Northern Irishman clashed with the opposing striker during United's 1-0 victory at St James' Park, with both appearing to make the error. Cisse was also pictured wiping something off of his face.
But Evans says he is shocked by the accusations and that it is not in his character to do anything of the sort, despite the footage indicating he did in fact spit at the Senegalese international.
The statement on the official website read: 'Having woken up this morning I am shocked to have seen the media coverage from last night's match. I would like to make it clear that I did not spit at Papiss Cisse.
'I was totally unaware of any spitting incident and had assumed that the issue at the time was with the challenge and his attempted retaliation to the tackle from the floor. During the game Papiss Cisse and I spoke about the incident and it is clear by my reaction in the television footage that I was totally surprised by any suggestion of spitting.
'It is not in my character or in my nature to spit at anybody nor is it something I have ever done or would ever do. It is certainly not something that I did last night.'

What an absolute tool, along with Cisse. Ban them for 10 games or whatever, even if it hurts our chances of scoring goals for the remainder of the season with Cisse banned, disgraceful actions. Pathetic from Scholes on BT Sport, totally biased. All this 'not in his character or nature' bull**** that keeps being said. Okay, I'll go & shoot someone, but it's not in my nature, so everything's okay.

When you watch it in full speed, cisse has a kick out at him and misses. Evans clearly spits on the floor. Cisse then gets up in his face.
He appears to spit at him then realises what he has done and pretends Evans has spit in his face by rubbing his eye.

If you can move your head 180 degrees why would you spit right at Papiss Cisse when all you have to do is turn your head away from him.

He's already turning round to te red to complain about the kick out when you watch it in real time.
You can't really see cisse spitting in real time but I lresume he has as he pretends his eye has been spat into.

Liverpool are doing really well now, great run of form but it has to end at some point. Although this season it won't be the title, it could well be top 4. But a good solid 2-0 home win against an awkward Burnley side.
Villa get a vital result that may just kick start their season. A very late penalty is the confidence you need. Plugging away until you get the result.
Hull game a result neither team wanted, but its a point closer to safety. Poyet is long the plot he'll be the next one for the boot me thinks soon enough.
Expected defeat for Leicester, but put up a good fight like always although very difficult for me to see a way out of this for them. Man City just 3 points to keep in touch with Chelsea who also typically grinded out a win at West Ham, like in every, boring style they do.
Everton's troubles worsen whilst Stoke are slowly getting better under Mark Hughes whereas Southampton got what the needed to keep themselves in touch with United who also got a good win at mid-table Newcastle and to keep up with Spurs, Arsenal and Liverpool.
Spurs also got themselves a good win where Swansea will be disappointed but an expected defeat. Time for them to pick themselves up for a top half finish.
Finally, Arsenal got a good brace of 5 minutes to win at QPR which is never an easy place to go. Keep their heads above everyone else and a little bit on consistency from them now and they could push for a 2nd place finish, who knows.
Midweek football summary at your helm.

Gave away a freekick and gobbed on the ground.
Looks bad in slo mo 6 second video, no real issues with it in real time.
Cisse should have been off for violent conduct regardless.

Dolph this will be my last word on our little tete-a-tete. It's brought me no joy I can tell you:
- There's no need to insult anybody at this board, at any time. Regardless of your self-pronounced superior intelligence, there's simply no need.
- I'm no better than most people, nor worse than most. Anyone who knows me on v2 would back that up.
- Winston Reid held West Ham to ransom for months, made the club look desperate, had his manager spouting bizarre statements about torture, and if you're honest, put a gap between himself and the fans. West Brom have had similar with Berahino, Liverpool have had the same with Sterling. There's no agenda from me, and you'll even recall I said it was a good deal. There's no need to make up stories about 'sly digs' and 'condescending nonsense'. As you say, you are intelligent enough to rise above such things.
- On the two Zouma songs, I did actually say I found one offensive and the other one borderline, so I was consistent. I don't believe either song is appropriate, and I don't think young kids at the game should have to question their fathers/uncles/grandparents about why either sung is being sung. Just my opinion, if you don't agree, use your superior intelligence and accept that humans sometimes don't agree on everything and that, despite you believing something different, I am entitled to my opinion and to sharing said opinion on this thread without being treated like a second class citizen.
- If the Tottenham songs were old footage, and proven, why has no statement been made by the club or police to that effect? I do agree Spurs fans are awful though, and frankly are the worst set of fans in this country behind Chelsea's.
- Your post appeared to condone something I took as racism. I'd hope everyone would be shocked. Now we know that's not the case, I'm really very glad. There's nothing personal here, I'd have said the same against Hero, Fernando, anyone. I can't believe that someone standing up for even the perception of racism would be subjected to the ridicule I've had today. Bizarre.
And Jonny Evans should get double Cisse's ban, just for lying so badly. If Rudi Voller has retaliated all those years ago, maybe spitting would already be a major offence.

I am not ridiculing you, and I do not claim to have superior intelligence, I can just see past the wording to understand that insults can be hidden in kinder phrases. You may not have just outright named me as such, but you have insulted me quite continuously.
I believe I have the right to stand up for myself when labelled as someone who not only has an apparent role as a mod who likes to cause trouble, but also when being accused of condoning and finding amusement in racism. I can take many insults, but I won't be labelled that.
Nor do I have to bow down to someone else's level of what is offensive and what is not. That is your choice, but I don't have to be as (and I'm only saying this because I can't think of a better word and not to actually label you as soft) soft on it either.
As both my father and I said as we left the ground, it was very funny and pushing limits quite cutely, but would become offensive if sung with no context and at just random occasions. Do I think all Chelsea fans are racists? No, of course not. Do I think its a good thing that people have reacted to ridicule Chelsea because of it? Yes, because it shows people are not willing to accept this kind of behaviour and these views in football.

Evans looking at six game ban, Cisse looking at seven game ban, if guilty.
Big blow for United, whereas we've got Rivière

United entering a defining period of fixtures, okay, it's only Evans, but you would still want him available in games against much superior opposition where their defence really will be tested & punished, unlike against Newcastle & Sunderland.
Riviere, with a run of games, might actually surprise a few people. If Newcastle had 25 points, instead of 35, with Cisse banned for seven games, I'd be running down the bookies immediately, putting them down for relegation.

Bit of a joke this. Much ado about nothing.
Just have to get on with the next 6 games without him.

Disagree entirely, spitting at someone is a horrible act. Can't just brush it off.
