Well there's been a trade straight off in the 2nd round with the Giants moving up for the first pick of the round.crazy_dave23 wrote:Just watched the draft on delay and I have to say it was quite unexciting... I wanted a ridiculous blockbuster trade...

Giants trade up to top of 2nd round to take Landon Collins. Silly move. Who wants a Safety that can't cover and takes bad angles??

While I'm not crazy about the pick, I don't think Scherff can be described as a reach - he was projected to go at the back end of the top 10 and we took him at 5. I'd have rathered we took Williams but Scherff fills a big need for us regardless of where he plays on our O-Line although they do seem intent on having him play RT.
Smith I know nothing about apart from what I just read but he seems like an unremarkable big guy who could contribute in the rotation. Seems like he could be described as a reach but I'd be delighted if someone told me otherwise.
What Scherff and Smith both do is fulfill McCloughan's stated aim of getting bigger and more physical on both sides of the trenches. I like that.

So, we're a third of the way through the 2nd round and Randy Gregory is still sitting there.... can he slide to the 3rd?

From what little i've seen of the prospects this year i'm not sold on him, hope Patriots don't touch him if he's still on the board.Number-25 wrote:So, we're a third of the way through the 2nd round and Randy Gregory is still sitting there.... can he slide to the 3rd?

I agree.... I'm no authority on the college game since I don't watch it but if I'm an NFL GM, I'm not touching a raw, skinny OLB who is slow off the snap and has off field character questions.

I'm not saying it was a massive reach, but their draft so far seems like it's being run by someone that fell in love with their mock draft.Number-25 wrote:While I'm not crazy about the pick, I don't think Scherff can be described as a reach - he was projected to go at the back end of the top 10 and we took him at 5.

The 49ers draft Tartt. The Eagles get Eric Rowe. Tartt is interesting and has been received some good write-ups in the past few weeks.

Classic Belichick Day 2 - lets reach for guys we could get on day 3! Although he did say that the Grissom guy (a DE/LB) had the best TE workout of the class which is major lolz for the actual TE's

Re: NFL Draft 2015 discussion thread
Redskins' approach to the draft so far seems to have been to find the biggest guy on the Board at any position of need. I'm not averse to a bit of physicality - we've been getting pushed around by everyone for far too long now. The short-lived Gregg Williams era aside, it's been over 20 years since we last had a team that had any sort of mean streak.

Re: NFL Draft 2015 discussion thread
I like the trade with the Hawks, as he's known for finding lower round talent, but if trading down at that spot, I'd have gone with one of the best DB's still on the board with the revised pick instead of a project LB. We can pick up projects lower down and people won't second guess us if they fail. Let's hope one of those projects turns out to be a quality S!
But on the point of Murphy, while I'm not sold on him at this stage, it's one year in, and a year where he was sat behind Orakpo most of it, especially in camp. He's actively competing for the starting role, so maybe he'll show better?

I think the talent level in this draft is pretty mediocre at a lot of positions TBH, wonder if the Patriots feel the same way.Olly wrote: Classic Belichick Day 2 - lets reach for guys we could get on day 3! Field Yates "A testament to why today matters: 20 of the 44 starters in Super Bowl 49 were drafted in the fourth round or later."
I would like to see the Patriots go OL at some point, look at TJ Clemmings (depending on medical) and depending on the security report La'El Collins.

It'll be interesting to see if anyone picks him after his agent said he won't sign a contract if picked after the third round. Although I'm pretty sure his plan to enter next year again depends on actually getting picked at some point, so it seems like a pretty dumb comment to make.twelve283 wrote:and depending on the security report La'El Collins.

Re: NFL Draft 2015 discussion thread
The more this draft goes on, the more I don't like what the Rddskins are doing. Now we've passed on some perfectly good Guard prospects to take a midget WR who will likely be too small to find a role and then we take a Guard who can't move once other teams have hoovered up all the decent prospects. But hey, McCloughan is a genius so you're not allowed to question him....

My favourite drafts so far are the Bears, Cowboys, Vikings and Seahawks. The Eagles and Giants make solid first three picks so I think the Redskins could be in for a long, hard season.

Re: NFL Draft 2015 discussion thread
Pretty happy with the Pats strategy - looking to get OL help and then retool the defence.
Love the look of the two OL we took - Indy must already be quaking at the amount of yards we'll run on them.
Not such a fan of some of the defenders chosen, particularly Richards in the second (tavon Wilson 2.0).
