Re: Scotland World Cup look ahead and squad
Godammit. Duncan Taylor is a real loss - a championship winning player that was both robust and in-form. Why, Bill McLaren? Whyyyyyy?madmaccas wrote:TOOLIS AND FIFE JOIN SCOTLAND SQUAD
Edinburgh Rugby duo Dougie Fife and Ben Toolis were today added to Scotland’s extended training squad for the Rugby World Cup 2015.
The pair are injury replacements for Glasgow Warriors lock Tim Swinson and Saracens centre Duncan Taylor, both of whom require corrective surgery to ongoing ankle and shoulder complaints respectively.
Swinson and Taylor are expected to be unavailable for up to three months, which rules them out of the national team’s four warm-up games ahead of the Rugby World Cup 2015.
Fife (24), who has scored 16 tries in 64 games for his club, earned three of his six Scotland caps in the 2015 RBS 6 Nations, scoring the only try in the team’s 15-8 loss to France in Paris.
Toolis (23) earned his first cap as a replacement in the same campaign after a breakthrough season for the capital club, starting 20 from 22 matches and scoring his first try in the side’s European Challenge Cup semi-final win over Dragons.
I think that clearly rules them out of the WC.

Centres and injured Shoulders? new trend? its almost like the Human shoulder is not meant to be used as a battering ram, can we remind our precious Young talent Scott, Bennett, Horne, Vernon and Dunbar to Run at the branch's not the trunk at least until they are fully healed and we face England in the latter stage's where we can use our super strong healed up shoulder's to run straight over em!

I think that I would have cried if you told me a year ago that our startig RWC centre combination would be Horne and Vernon.
Now that some time has passed, I still probably would.

Ah but George... If we had told you a year ago that the Scotland RWC centre pairing would be the Pro 12 champions pairing ...
Let's just hope neither of them falls over, or goes for a kebeb with Batman and Bane, before then.

The tartan just makes it both twee and chavvy at the same time.
If it wasn't for the tartan I'd like it!

I'm going to be controversial and say that from that glimpse of it in the video I think it looks fairly good.
Seeing what it looks like in person might be a different story but at least its a dark tartan so isn't to out there!

It's only in the side panels and under the collar for god's sake. It's not like a Vivienne Westwood ball gown or a Rod Stewart suit circa 1973.
The tartan is also the existing SRU tartan which is muted anyway. I like the navy, actually, less keen on the white.

I like the deep blue colour, and that's about it. Not a fan of the tartan

I don't think it's too bad, in fact I actually quite like it. IMO wise it would have looked better with a red dress tartan (as opposed to green which clashes a wee bit).
Re: Scotland World Cup look ahead and squad
The skin tight fit might look good on Mr Chinhook : on him it might say "sports bar" or even, "gay bar" but on myself it would just scream "Mars Bar" (and far too many of them. )

Look forward to seeing what the ones for real fans look like - I would expect the side flaps would be about 20x bigger to accommodate my larger stomach muscles

Well here it is in the full, just a shame the tartan doesn't extend down to the shorts.

Yeah that's weird isn't it. The green looks great on the change shirt but I still think red tartan would have been better against the blue.

Hang on a minute...
Remember there was a competition to design the Scotland jersey? My away jersey that I designed then looks suspiciously like the new away jersey... I had tartan on the bottom right of the jersey (not the side though)
Macron, my commission please ...

I quite like it, plus the SRU tartan is not a million miles away from my family tartan so that's a bonus.

I really like the new kit - slightly minimalist, slightly nationalist, slightly existentialist.

Also, I have a Bokkie friend who is now suggesting I accompany him to the match at Noocassel. If only I knew somone who lived there or thereabouts.

Absolutely you can stay - I should have my new place sorted by then. Bit of a fixer-upper, but when it's done I'm thinking of calling it the 'Radisson Bru'.
I should say, while I'll be with my folks for the Samoa match, if any of you guys are in Newcastle for the Bokke match, give me a shout and we'll have a drink. Jim and Schiz can provide character references...

That's my bad to be fair - I merged the '6N review/world cup lookahead' thread into a new thread created for the WC. I should have just locked the 6N one. So half of the thread is discussing the 6N!

World Rugby, as they are now known, sell the tournament partnerships for hundreds of millions. These official advertisers understandably don't want any conflicts or media clutter.
They could get rid of the exclusivity, but the rights for World Rugby would be worth significantly less. No doubt in time the bigwigs in England and France will demand that the profits are to divided based on viewing numbers etc.

Re: Scotland World Cup look ahead and squad
Dear aunts Georgia and Rebecca (De Winters),
I have a problem; pre-season starts tonight and it's too feccin hot already. It took till today for my legs to get over an hour and a half touch/rounders with Pippetto's scallywags on Sunday morning and the ground's had three days to bake since then.
I seem to be carrying Chris Fusaro in excess weight at the moment and this has led to comfort eating which, although the cakes are nice at the time, makes me feel shamed and worthless. This of course causes me to drink to forget.
I wrote to that nice Mr Cotter and he told me to, "sacrifice a young kid at full moon and drink the still warm blood. That'll pep you up." I assume he meant a young goat.
His civil partner, Rab C wrote to me saying, "Cakes, beer, self loathing. You sound my kind of sheila. I'll be round on Saturday: get your bikini waxed."
So, should I go to training tonight?

The problem with that is that the native sponsor (e.g BT Sport for us) would get shirty if another brand was worn on their top (imagine SKY/Foxtel were the principle broadcasters and every team had to wear SKY on their shirts). It would also be fairly meaningless for teams from say Canada to have brands that only exist in EMEA on their shirts. That's why the best thing to do is just remove them from all shirts.
Re: Scotland World Cup look ahead and squad
I agree. It's funny to see what are very 'local' brands for me appearing on Barcelona, Real Madrid and Man City shirts.madmaccas wrote:RDW_Scotland wrote:madmaccas wrote:RDW_Scotland wrote:No sponsors during the world cup.

Re: Scotland World Cup look ahead and squad
All joking aside lads: looks like the bumpties at HQ have fecced up yet again.
Big Tacky has been named in the Wallaby squad for the Rugby Championship.
This will scupper any plans for him becoming SQ, but will it also block his move to Scotstoun? One would have assumed that the blood sucking parasites who drew up the contract would have considered this eventuality. Although perhaps he saw it as a big money move and then the ARU upped the ante. In which case can the SRU claim compensation for breach of contract?
I can't see why he would play for Oz just now and then move to Glasgow and effectively end his international career for the next three years. Certainly Glasgow were expecting to employ him on the understanding that he would be available during the World Cup ( where he'll be needed as cover for Rory Hughes who'll be playing inside centre for Scotland alongside Lee Jones, the way things are going). It really does look as if he will stay in the antipodes.
Someone has acted in bad faith at the very least and the SRU legal team have been less than competent if the contracts that were supposedly signed did not have punitive compensation clauses. But obviously no sanity clause.

Re: Scotland World Cup look ahead and squad
This is just an extended training squad so he's not tied to Australia yet, but things aren't looking great for his Glasgow move.
Could be a bit of a backlash from Glasgow ST holders - I'm sure the numbers shot up when it was announced he was signing!

Surely the rise in ST holders can be better explained by Glasgow's Pro12 success rather than an uncapped signing?
Regardless, its hard to imagine he would want to leave Oz now as everything seems to be going his way.

Absolutely, but given there was a big marketing push after it was announced he was signing it won't look great if he eventually cancels the deal.
I doubt anyone will demand a refund due to it, but I'm not sure what the legal basis would be if they claimed they bought the ST on the basis that Glasgow said he was coming!

Re: Scotland World Cup look ahead and squad
Sorry RDW, I'm with the Manky one on this. People bought the season tickets because they want to see Glasgow continue winning things ( a concept which may be difficult for followers of the exfoliators to grasp) the big name signing was just the icing on the cake.
However, I hope someone at Murrayfield is having his genitals put through an industrial strength shredder even as we speak.
No, what I really hope for is...

"Hello Gregor, Llanelli isn't nearly as pretty as Glasgow and the kebab shops are quite rough. Can I come back please?"
Ah, we can but dream.

Re: Scotland World Cup look ahead and squad
Don't get me wrong the uplift in ST sales is definitely due to the team winning, but I'm just wondering from a 'false advertising' point of view if someone demanded a refund because they bought the ST on the basis that Big T was signing for the club. I suppose given that Glasgow at the time weren't lying when they said he was signing there is no case...unless they knew there was a chance he wouldn't come!
Let's face it, if Beauden Barrit signed for Edinburgh I'd get a ST!

Cannot understand why him playing for Australia would affect a move to a different club side? Why would it? Tacky is being included now to stop him playing for Fiji. He was never, ever going to be a SQ player - he's both too good and too fashionable at the moment.

The point being will he still want to come to Glasgow and rule himself out of international selection for 3 years?
