Forehand which looked good early on, capitulated. But ultimately he lost that set in his head.

Head to head stats according to the ATP.
Djokovic has won the last 6 matches, 4 in straights sets and 2 of those 3-1. Murray has not therefore even forced a deciding set in the last 6 encounters.
Djokovic has won 9 out of the last 10.
Murray’s last 2 victories were slam finals.
A Djokovic win today would make it 10 in a row on hard court.

A fair enough point. He was a break up twice and let it slip. You cannot do that against Novak and hope to win.

Not pleasant reading for Murray followers and is why I have doubts about his ability to get back to winning slams. I say this because for Murray to win a slam there is an excellent chance as things stand right now that he'd need to beat Novak in the semis or final.

Re: Miami Masters 1000 Thread.
The stat you're talking about...is it that Murray had never lost the first set against Djokovic and come back to win? I wouldn't make too much of that. It's always going to be hard to come back from behind as the underdog. Looking at the head to head there were a couple of matches at Rome and Australian Open where he nearly did it, down to 5-5 and 6-6 in the decider.

What about another Wimbledon? Against Djokovic Murray is 2-0 up on grass (and 5-0 in sets by the way). Rafa at Wimbledon tends to struggle to get past about R2 in recent years.

Of course not as Jack isn't playing him. By the way there is a US player called Jack Sock. Thought I'd just tell you this as something tells me you are not a tennis fan.

As a fellow sweaty sock, I think you know what I mean. Murray is the weakest player I have ever seen.... bitching and complaining after the FIRST game of the first set.

Yes, keep living in the past, it's the only place you'll find any solace. And we both know Djok was knackered in Wimbledon and done in by the wind at the US.
Murray won't win bugger all else.

Seriously, Becker must know how to hit an overhead. Djokovic's mission should be to skip Monte Carlo and instead practice 10,000 overheads. He can get away with the misses here but just one or two overhead misses, and the resulting confidence hit, could be the difference between winning and losing in the FO against Rafa. Arguably, it already happened once.

Andy seems to have found a reasonable mental place...
But in the back of my head, I'm waiting for a couple of poor points and then a mental implosion and Novak streaks away.
I've seen this storyline before.

True Craig. My glass is usually fuller than this, but it's annoyed me how he mentally farted that first set away.

Re: Miami Masters 1000 Thread.
So, another stat, in those last 6 matches with Djokovic, Murray only won 2 sets in total, but both on TBs. So in 6 matches, and 16 sets, he has not one a single set without requiring a TB to do so.
Of course, one match before that, he won three in a row such sets at the Wimbledon final.
I think grass vs hard is an issue here, but also, he just hasn't been the same player since that Wimbledon final.

Yes but like I have said before Murray is almost (mentally) starting from scratch following back surgery so even a three set or narrow two sets defeat would be a step forward than some of his defeats of late.

Very interesting AGAIN. Djokovic dominating the point, Murray throws up high lob to win the point, I do wonder if Rafa and Uncle TOni are watching this.

Re: Miami Masters 1000 Thread.
By the high standards of "big four" encounters I'd put this so far very marginally below average, just because a few too many errors and weak play double faults and dumping in the net at key points. That has been mixed with some good play as well. To summarise, I am enjoying it now but will forget it soon. Of course, if Murray forces a third set and things move up a notch I could completely change my mind.

Re: Miami Masters 1000 Thread.
Well, Murray has won a set against Djokovic without the use of a tiebreak for the first time since Wimbledon 2013, now to tackle that other stat about not winning after losing the opening set.
Djokovic now on a run of at least 4 points in a row lost when he had a smash. 1 wide, 2 mishit, 3 long, 4th one he played safe and aimed it middle middle (the only one of the 4 that went in the court), but Murray pulled out the first of two cracking shots. Nice to see the set end on exciting winners.

This looks a lot like the Oz Open final. Murray looking physically stronger and all over Novak at the end of the set. Will be interesting to see if the 3rd follows a similar pattern.

Sorry I refuse to believe the ironman is tired and I hope Muzza doesn't either. We have seen Novak win back-to-back four hour plus matches before. Here he has has a full days rest after a way less than three hour match so he certainly can't be tired.
