Must win game for both teams here. Connacht are away to Munster so there is a real chance to even things up in the league. Edinburgh could have been leading the race by this stage but some inconsistent performances have left them playing catch up. Scarlets have been playing well, with a recent win over Leinster.
A win for Edinburgh and we're right back in it, a loss and it we really will be struggling.
Player wise Edinburgh should have pretty much all the Scotland Internationals available, but need to balance the squad due to the impending Challenge Cup knock-out rounds meaning we don't have a week's rest after this game like a lot of teams will have.
I think we'll see all of the Scotland players back bar Dickinson and Ford. Sutherland and Cochrane/McInally have played well in their absence so that shouldn't affect us too much.

Edinburgh probably have a yellow card coming unless we can rectify our discipline quickly.

No worries, if the Cuthbert incident is anything to go by the ref's lost his cards.

Have to say, we've dealt with Tonks' yellow pretty well. Certainly better than we would have done 6-12 months ago.

Brave comment to make - but he's the most complete Scottish scrum half available.

Couldn't agree more - by the way, when I said 'he' in my previous comment, I was meaning SHC. I just realised that might not have been clear! Great work by Edinburgh to get that try

Really good set of play from Edinburgh, they have come back into this game now, all to play for.
SHC and Denton are playing very well.

It's an innocuous thing, but SHC's pass to Denton for his try shows what he can bring - Laidlaw would have pondered over that and pointed at the defence before passing it.

Honestly I think the only person at this point who hasn't realised this is Big Vern. The way SHC marshals his forwards is very impressive for such a young man, he's certainly got confidence!

Maybe we will see a lot more of him in the pre world cup matches, surely he will get a couple of starts in those games.
It is easy to forget just how inexperienced he is, but he is improving all the time and if he keeps making his case like this, he will leapfrog Laidlaw sooner rather than later.

Great result! Some very strong performances from Edinburgh there. Good to see there isn't a 6 nations hangover in Edinburgh.

What a fantastic result for Edinburgh, took their home record and did not even give them a bonus point. The race for the last place in Europe is suddenly wide open and Edinburgh look like a team in form

Denton had a very good game, SHC was MOTM and deservedly so I think, Watson was everywhere, although he was held up over the line twice. Burleigh looked strong, plenty others worth mentioning too

Great result. Edinburgh still in the race for a top 6 finish. Denying the Scarlets a bonus point as well.

Denton and SHC were class, SHC was given the MoM by Sky. Watson and Toolis were prominent, whilst Nel was fairly dominant at the scrum.
That's a great win for Edinburgh - 3 home games out of our 4 remaining fixtures so we're in a decent position.

SHC MoM, played very well and did not miss a kick
The pack generally were good, but Denton a standout, but it was a very good performance across the park. Even Visser looked up for it!

Other than his yellow card, he pulled off a few turnovers and was probably better than Watson at the breakdown, but Watson was more dynamic and prominent in the loose.

Nothing I saw there to suggest he is the answer to all Scotland's problems. He played well enough, but interesting that as the season has gone on, the Scarlet's now view James Davies as the better option at 7. On today's performance you can see why. Barclay certainly was not the best No.8 on the pitch either, that was Denton by a mile.
Barclay is a good player still, no doubt about that, but he is not a game changer. Whether he is better than Cowan, or even Watson, who also played very well today, is debateable.

My son once played in a game where the ref had lost his cards so the blatant trip on him went completely unpunished. Actually he did not even give a penalty so perhaps he had forgotten his specs too. They even had to decide who kicked off with a game of Rock-Paper-Scissors as he had no coins either!

Didn't see the game but I'm surprised at Gareth Davies. Anyone got footage of that incident? And how long the sanction is with that? Pretty stupid, he was in a position to get the Welsh 9 jersey, and possibly the most complete scrum-half we have in Wales.

4-6 weeks I reckon, deserves it for stupidity. Has he got any previous, he might get it down a bit if he has not and says sorry a lot!

19-6 Munster now, looking like a good result for Edinburgh, but less so for Glasgow.
The fight for the last European place is going to be as tight and interesting as that for the playoffs. It is definitely keeping the league alive. Even the two Italian teams are scrapping down at the bottom for their spot and neither of them as likely to roll over as you might imagine!

Yeah - TBP win for Munster tonight, but Glasgow are certainly in control of their destiny at the arse end of this season.BigGee wrote:19-6 Munster now, looking like a good result for Edinburgh, but less so for Glasgow.

He's Jonathan Davies' (JD2) brother I think. 'Cub' Davies to JD2's 'Foxy', nickname wise.
Yes he seems a very handy open side. Has played a bit on the 7s circuit too I think.
Just saw the Gareth Davies head butt on the news. Not quite a Zidane but a definite head but and red card. What a doofus. As Saint says, at the start of the season (or was it the end of last?) he was awesome and probably ahead of Webb in the Wales pecking order but injury struck. Came on v Italy last week, but this won't help him. Gats hates indiscipline on the pitch.

This is a huge shock given how good the Scarlets have been recently. It's anybodys now for that final euro spot.

Re: Scarlets v Edinburgh, 28 March
It was just a silly rush of blood to the head... but I think it was definitely on the low-end of the scale and while he may sit out a couple of games he'll be back on the pitch this season. Nakarawa got three weeks for a headbutt on the low end of the spectrum. I don't think it was nasty at all, just really stupid.
Edinburgh played well here I thought. Controlled the game very nicely. Will be surprised if Hidalgo-Clyne isn't in the 9 shirt for Scotland sooner rather than later.

Good to hear Rambo had a good game - the modern hooker role has changed so much and he seems to be growing into it.
How was his throwing?
Hopefully the game appears on YouTube!

Not really impressed with Edinburgh, lived off Scarlets' mistakes and ill discipline. Another day and they would have been soundly beaten imo

Er no, that's either sour grapes or more likely one of the FOSRS gang who hang about there since they broke their own forum and hate pro rugby and any non SQ players and quite frankly have no idea which way is up.

Just seen the headbutt it looked more like he wanted to punch the Embra kad, but couldn't get his hands free so nutted him instead. Totally stupid, and if he plays again this season he can consider himself lucky.

Sour grapes. They were well beaten, although I felt very sorry for their 7 who I thought was outstanding.
Have seen the game now. Hard to pick out stars from an Edinburgh perspective as it was a real team effort. Burleigh was class in the backs and both Watson and Denton were particularly effective in the forwards. The Scarlets 7 was a real standout though.
One more point, the Burleigh try was a great score. Excellent work from Cuthbert to generate the offload from deep. Wonderful support and link from Watson then great teamwork and interchange between Burleigh and Visser.
