I did that budget calculator, Me and the wife are £221 better off. Which is probably because between us ( mainly here) we have a decent income and good standard of living, the sort of person the tories try and look after. I would have no issues if i was no better off and the people that need assistance are given more support.

A popular gripe at the mo seems to be re the cut to tax credits versus the increase to the IHT threshold. Great to be able to leave your fully grown kid your million pound house with no IHT, but possibly more useful to be able to feed them when they're young....

Well when you do get here Prof Kwini, you have to give us plenty of notice as we will have to muster a fitting welcoming. Id love to see a 606 golf outing held in Ireland, north or south.

I don't get why Scottish MP's should vote on English matters, Jimmy Krankie Sturgeon should really keep out of it, because she hasn't got ANY connection to Westminster, not being an MP, she has no mandate to tell MP's from Scotland how to vote on any matter in the Houses of Parliament, let alone one which only affects English MP's.

Its not the English parliament though, its the British Parliament, and any elected member of said parliament should be allowed to vote if they want. I have no issues with them voting on issues that involve England only. Unless a law is passed or we completely change the parliamentary process. And anyway, foxhunting is horrendous, and the people involved are idiots.

Much as I dislike the 'pleasure' angle for some people who fox hunt, the campaign(s) against it are purely class-driven, which is pathetic.

Very much so Navy, I don't see the same clamour to clamp down on Hare Coursing, Badger Baiting, Male Chicken Fighting, Dog Fighting etc. The "Mac" crowd will do anything to lean against people who have more money than them.

Badger baiting, c*ck fighting, dog fighting, are all illegal. You cannot really clamp down on them much more. Fox Hunting should be illegal aswell, should not be watered down. It may be a traditional class driven campaign, but It has little to do with money, what with people like Brian May and Paul McCartney against fox hunting.

I know, just as Fox hunting is illegal, it simply seems the Yoghurt knitters will do anything to attack the government if its Tory, see yesterdays Heathrow protest as an example.

Never seen the problem with killing foxes, hounds and horses seems a bit too labour intensive though. A couple of rifles seems perfectly adequate.

Whilst I agree that there are bigger fish to fry, all this is doing is bringing the fox hunting laws for England and Wales in line with the fox hunting laws in Scotland. So for the SNP to vote against something that is already legal in Scotland is completely hypocritical!

If someone has a genuine reason to shoot foxes, basically a farmer. Then let him shoot them, its quicker and less painful for the animal. If people just want to run a fox ragged to watch it get ripped apart for no real reason other then fun, its wrong. ANyone that disagrees are clearly a bit strange.

Any government deserves attacking if they are making crazy decisions. And this Tory government are already making some crazy decisions.

Maybe Tory hunting should be brought in..

No-one said "money" did they? I said "class", or should that be "perceived class"?

Seriously? Even an expert marksman can't guarantee a straight kill 100% of the time. Personally, messy as it might be, I'd rather a pack of hounds rip a fox apart in a minute or so. Better than crawling off to die in a hedge somewhere over days maybe?

It reckons 1 in 3 golfers have had sex on the course. Royston GC for me, not divulging any US venues!
Perhaps they called Maverick whose responses would no doubt have skewed the numbers?
Or Mac, where recent posts suggest they might probably have drawn a blank.

Navy - you said opposition to fox hunting was purely class driven. Wrong - don't fall into the trap set for you that says it is. Many people who work in the "industry" are "working class" many people who oppose it are not!
I have no doubt some oppose it for pre determined class reasons, but manifestly not the majority.
I know many people on both sides of the argument, though I can't claim to be overly a exercised by it myself. Intuitively I am opposed, just because it seems barbaric, but I also hear many pro arguments.
I rarely hear class from those actively involved, other than a few pro supporters who seem incapable of any other argument.

I'll try to avoid that trap. I think the drivers of this in the media etc look at it from a class and/or utter lack of understanding POV. I know full well that many actually involved in it are anything but typical 'upper' class.

There is probably a correlation between those stats and those who claim to drive the ball over 300 yards.

The number of attractive women I have seen at a golf course (whether playing or not), or actually the number of women who I've ever seen at a golf course at all, makes this highly unlikely, unless there is a huge amount of man on man action at US golf clubs

I can see him winning the leadership Mac and to be fair he's probably the most genuine candidate (in so far as I don't think he gives a flying Smeg about focus groups or the right sound bites) but if he does prevail I'd guess the party is re-entering a Michael Foot type loop and a decade and a half out of power (at least). Who will be the '"Kinnock"  to emerge post Corbyn to drag them back somewhere close to electability? Would you be happy with another 15 years of Tory rule Mac as long as Jerry stuck to his principles?

I don't really see political comparisons like the ones being made between Corbyn and labour of the early 80's as empirical evidence, just seemingly relevant anecdotes. I am really quite ensure what evidence even exists to support the premise that Corbyn will be unelectable, let alone whether or not I accept the evidence on offer.

I am happy for the 2020 election to be an experiment to test whether the public will vote for a left wing labour party.

When did the English EVER elect a radical Left wing government?? They just don't. Will they change their minds for the first time ever in 2020?? Never say never but I doubt it very much.

It would be interesting to have a choice though. I think the SNP has shown that a left thinking party could do well, most people are about sick and tired of the relentless profiteering and constant raids on the tax payers purse (defence (!?!), housing benefit, utilities, banks etc). Labour has been a joke (from a left leaning point of view) since that lying tory toad Blair got in. I think there has to be some balance and even in opposition a strong left leaning Labour party could save this country before it's completely bled dry.
