What a joke....
First he bins the title, then fails weight.
Still, probably cheered Frank Warren up after Abril did a bunk again...
At least if Lee loses he can still make him and BJS in the summer.

The guys a clown. We interviewed him 2 years ago and he seemed genuinely scared of a challenge.

Rob. Better check with coral. They are probably offering bets on whether lee retains his title.

Couldn't be better for Lee. Almost literally a no lose fight.
Quillan is a joke. Can't believe he was allowed to drop the belt when there was a perceived "threat" and became immediate No 1 when he feels like it.

Sometimes though the loser gets stripper and the title becomes vacant. No chance of that?
Re: Quillen misses weight for Lee fight
This shows to me that Quillin is unfocussed, lazy and not taking this fight seriously. What a disgrace to boxing. I hope Lee takes his "0".

I met Quilin. Doesnt seem at all afraid of nobody. The Golovkin propaganda machine works wonders over here though.

How about when he told me and Adam that he wouldn't travel to Argentina to fight Martinez, we asked this the week after Murray had gone there and fought in front of the bumper crowd. He just dismissed the fight out of hand Lance, got quite upset that we'd even suggest he face the main man in the division at the time.

Truss, he binned the belt rather than fight Koborov. Who at the time looked like a star. Then, as soon as Lee KO's him, suddenly becomes interested in the belt again. We bitch endlessly about easy voluntary defences but it takes boxing down a whole new road when champs can pick and choose when they defend their belts and organisations let them.
Not making the weight is just the icing on the cake.
Hampo's insight is very, very revealing. Hampo is pretty level headed and balanced. If, in his interviews, he has suspicions about the lad it just further backs up the other evidence.
He lacks belief or dedication. Either way, I'm cheering Lee all the way and, to be honest, I wasn't really a Lee fan. I think, and still do, he is a EU/fringe world level fighter who got lucky. Not that I begrudge him getting lucky. But, I hope he disposes of Quillan and picks up some money against BJS. He deserves it.

Re: Quillen misses weight for Lee fight
Why go to Argentina? After all not even Martinez wanted too many of his fights there. It would sell better in America.
Not saying Quilin isnt a protected fighter who has an inflated opinion of himself, but I dont think hes intimidated by anyone. Golovkin included. People like Quilin dont believe anybodies better than them

It wasn't just going to Argentina, it was that we had suggested be fight the main man. Clearly wanted no part of him and since then couldn't really care about him, leaves a sour taste when he ditches the title and walks in to another title shot.
Hopefully Lee knocks him in to next week.

Re: Quillen misses weight for Lee fight
It not only looks like he's a protected fighter, it looks like he wants to pick and choose, and is being allowed to! Which is more gauling.
Lets face it, Lee is a Euro level fighter who "got lucky" and good on him. Quillin didn't fancy Koborov, as a live fighter, but fancies Lee, as he thinks he got lucky and is an easier prospect.
Boxing is bad enough with organisations not forcing champs to fight enough mandatories etc. but for Quillin to get away with dropping belts and getting back into the driving seat so easily is just nausiating.
I hope Lee KO's him and gets a big money show against BJS. As much as I am not a fan of Lee, he has been a decent professional and deserved his title. Quillin has been cynical and, quite frankly, cowardly in his actions. I have not sympathy.

Re: Quillen misses weight for Lee fight
It really wouldn't sunrise me it Quillen missed weight on purpose. Haymon seems to have an aversion to promoting championship belts under his pbc umberella. And Quillen seems to do anything al wants, refuse roc nation/ dump his belt/ remain inactive.
I actually thought it was odd they were promoting the belt, when it seemed the Garcia/Peterson fight was set at a catchweight of 143lbs so that no belts were being promoted.

Not sure how true this is but at a check weigh in Quillin apparently weighed in at 176lbs, he's now been ordered to lose 2lbs or the fight is cancelled.

He was 161.4lbs yesterday. That's an increase of almost a stone in one day. How do you do that? Can you eat a stone in food in 24hrs?

If that's the case.........It's very unprofessional................Sad thing is Lee is a champion that is there for the taking !!!.....
He's a very silly boy....
Can't defend the indefensible....
He's wasting his time and ours..
Ten years time when he's finished and having to get a job delivering post..........He'll be looking at moments like this and feeling very bitter...

Not sure where that story has come from Hampo, the only governing body that has official check weigh ins is the IBF and they allow a 10% so even going by their rulings he'd be fine.

Lee should tell him to F**K off anyway !!
Eddie Mustafa Muhammad tried this trick of coming in well over the limit against Spinks in their rematch........."Let's have a non title fight instead"
Spinks said see you later..............If you can't be bothered neither can I !!

Re: Quillen misses weight for Lee fight
Think Alvarez once gained 20lbs for Matthew Hatton. Remember Nic Durandt, a local trainer saying that after a weigh in, a fighter will eat and sometimes continue eating past midnight. There's no real diet, just finding things to put back in. It's probably gotten more scientific, and I do believe it's largely the water weight they lost to make weight.
I've often wondered though whether or not gaining all that weight before a fight is more a hindrance than a help, though. Especially against skilled fighters. I mean, the body really isn't designed to gain 15% in one night.

A substantial amount of the weight has to be water. As I said, could you eat that much food in one day? But, if it is water, it begs the question just how dehydrated fighters are at weigh ins?
I play football every week and I do find if I eat late, before the game, I feel sluggish (more than normal) and bloated. So, I agree with your last comment. Can't see putting on such huge amounts of weight can do much good.

Re: Quillen misses weight for Lee fight
Some of the big weight gainers use an I.V. to regain the weight they've lost through dehydration. They drink distilled water which leeches moisture (and vitamins) out of the system. They get to a point where they can't break sweat. I think it should be regulated against to be honest, it's so unnatural.

I've put a stone on in a day after a bodybuilding contest. It's common in bodybuilding when you get your body fat down to minus 5%. It's an artificial state. Your body craves food after the dieting and when you go heavy on the fast acting carbs your body just soaks it up.

Strongy, I don't doubt you can do it. I've fluctuated many pounds in a day. But, its a bit different rehydrating and putting on weight AFTER a competition to putting it on and then going out there an performing. Don't you think?

Or perhaps the specific question is Strongy, could you do 12 rounds after that?

Not the way I did it, I just stuffed my face with junk.
Boxers are using diuretics to flush all the water out of their system and could easily lose 6-7 pounds in 24 hours doing this. Add to that the dieting down for the fight so their weight could be artificially a stone or more below what their normal weight is. Once they hit the water and clean carbs after weigh-in they just fill out. They are ramming their muscles full of glycogen the fuel for the fight.
