All the top players are playing, with the exception of Andy Murray, who's busy getting married.

Beautiful tournament, love scenery, and a nice start to the European Clay Court season.

While I want Ferrero Rocher to win, I guess only Nadal can knock Djoko out, or maybe not even Nadal?

Maybe Ferrer can beat Djoko.

Too many maybes, Tennis is confusing when no strong Nadal or Fed Laugh

Actually he's too defensive for my liking, he can play more offensively than that, but I guess he's still not confident enough to play that way. He's definitely a better player than Ferrer is on clay.

Notice that Rafa's FH DTL is almost non existent; he always go CC and that gives Ferrer all the chances to hit those angles!

Who, Ferrer?

Monfils if in a good mood can trash Djoko, but those moods are rare, one a tournament.

Apart from becoming really passive at 5-4 second set, it's not been a bad display from Nadal.
Ferrer has been great, I wouldn't even put a comeback past him now give what we've seen so far.

Nadal will be exhausted for tomorrow's semi vs Djokovic even if he gets through here.

I thought Rafa has it in the bag when he's up 3-0 in the second set, but typical of Ferrer, he fought back and Rafa got nervous when serving for the match, typical of him these days, and what seemed like a 1 and a half hours match ended up lasting close to three hours.

Fortunately for Rafa, this time he's able to win in the end. Rafa really likes sufferings, and makes life difficult for himself.

Had Rafa won it in straight sets, I would fancy him beating Novak tomorrow. Now? Novak is a much better version of the aggressive Ferrer, won't miss anything, serves and returns much better, I think if Rafa carries on playing so defensively, there's only one sure winner and that's Novak.

Well, at least Rafa reaches the SF here and so gains points and moves back to top four. He has to up his level many notches tomorrow if he wants to beat Novak...

As he says, it was down to both him and Monfils. It often takes two to tango in a result like this.

Good to see Monfils following it up today though, wow! Awesome result. He must fancy his chances of turning Berdych over on clay.

No I didn't enjoy saying Gael played well was not the same as saying he was outplayed AND HE WAS

You really are hard to please H-n !

Would it perhaps help if Mr. Federer cleared any post-match comments with you first, so that he could then choose an exact form of words which would be guaranteed to keep you happy ....?

I'd like to think - although, tbh, I have my doubts - that you :

a) apply the same rigorous analysis to presser answers/comments made by all other players on the tour immediately in the wake of a defeat, and
b) are as quick to voice your dislike if/when their assessment doesn't fully synchronise with your personal views

Wow.

I am labelled "childish" merely for asking whether you apply the same criteria to all players, or whether perhaps you are singling out Federer for special criticism .....? It's entirely up to you to apply different standards to him if you so wish.

I can't help wondering if you are equally quick to label people as "childish" in your private life.

Honestly H-n, I really don't know what's got into you in recent weeks/months ........ Headscratch

You neither lags... you are accusing me on the one hand of being judgemental regarding Federer and what the hell do you think you  doing.
Your accusatory tone would put anyone on the defense.

I told you I would apply those standards to any player but that I doubt very much if you would believe  me.. there seemed to be a touch of the nah na na na nah In your  post which came across as childish.,  I stand  by what I said.it was not an opinion but a statement of fact.. he said Gael played well... well that could have been said if Gael had lost.. he did not say Gael played better than me but instead went on to say all the things HE did wrong. Sorry but I though it ungracious. Gael soundly beat him end of

Anyone who uses the hole/digging comment immediately goes down in my estimation a slight notch...it is a way of trying to strengthen your argument cheaply with no substance.

Why are you asking for an apology. You are the one who seems to have insulted the other party and been just as assertive. I am sorry but you were at least half at fault for this argument. Silly argument anyway.

Nadal is 2/1 with the bookies.

I wonder when the last time was he was 2/1 for a match on clay? Must be over ten years.

Berdych v Monfils

Head to head 5-1 for Berdych however the only meeting on clay resulted in a 5 set win for Gaël. For the purpose of a decent final the frenchman needs to win imo.

Rafa's returns are really poor, why is he standing so far behind the baseline? He's mishitting so many returns, better go back and works on his returns. He can't beat Novak for depth, standing so far behind the baseline. Novak even have a more powerful FH than Rafa's!

Rafa only has his CCFH. Novak is always camping there to return it, CC or DTL. Novak certainly has more options than Rafa does. Rafa really has to work so hard to hold his service games! Novak clearly has the upper hand in this match. Too bad for Rafa.

No disaster losing to Novak for Rafa. In my opinion his problem is clearly mental and that has long been the biggest strength of his - total belief. That isn't there just now and we all know Novak is one of the very best clay courters in the world and world No.1. No disgrace.
