We Go Again! The 2014/15 Premier League Thread
First topic message reminder :
Missed the game today great result!
City have bought terribly since they won the title in 11/12, 100s of millions and no real certain starters or class players introduced.
They've prospered in a relative decline of the pl, picking up the top players from the non top 4 and the sub elite Europeans was good enough as a base but they didn't kick on and it has showed in Europe and this season.
6 wins in a row for United, city, Spurs and Liverpool in that run.
Top 4 all but secured, big test next week against chelsea.

If he's happy being a backup, good for him. But that shows his mental character and proves that he belongs nowhere near the England squad.

Think his ability proves he shouldn't be an international.
Alright move for a guy who is 35 and just been relegated.

Good shot-stopper, below par command of his box and an average reader of the play. One of the best England keepers of the last 20 years.

Yeah Green as back up is fair enough. Gives chelsea another English player as well.

Hes also a very smart man. He knows hes in a job, and he knows that job will have limited opportunities. Stay in London, earn some money, maybe get a medal or two.

There's winning medals, a la John Terry, then there's winning medals, a la Junichi Inamoto. I suspect Green would do the latter.

Of course, but they're there and he might even be a big part of a League Cup run or cover an injury.

Medals are usually appearance based though, think you have to get 10 to get a Premier League one.

It was lowered to 5 Hence why Loftus Cheek is playing more for Chelsea. You get 40 medals to hand out as wish

Imagine if a hypnotist got to Brendan Rodgers before Saturday's game and got him to not pick Gerrard and say it was for tactical reasons. The dung hitting the fan would be something to behold.

Daily Mail stating De Gea has agreed terms during his Madrid visit this week & BBC stating United have a shortlist of replacement for him. Obviously, this is very premature still, but it looks more & more certain he will end up leaving. Who would Man United fans want as his replacement?

The usual Spanish media rubbish, he may well leave but he certainly won't have agreed terms with Madrid unless they've tapped him up without the club knowing.

With my German cap on, Marc-Andre ter Stegen would be an ideal candidate to replace David de Gea. ter Stegen has played a league match for FC Barcelona, so maybe Manchester United could prize him away from the Camp Nou. FC Barcelona got ter Stegen on a free, so £25-£30m could tempt them.LiamB wrote:Daily Mail stating De Gea has agreed terms during his Madrid visit this week & BBC stating United have a shortlist of replacement for him. Tottenham have got to be careful this summer as I can see a few of their big players wanting out with Champions League football and a few happy suitors. Hugo Lloris, Christian Eriksen, Jan Vertonghen and Harry Kane are all going to be targets this summer.
Could easily see:
Lloris to Manchester United.
Christian Eriksen to Manchester City
Jan Vertonghen to Bayern
Harry Kane to Manchester United or possibly even Real Madrid

think lloris is massively over rated, always a mistake in him. so wouldnt want him. would prefer someone like begovic a lot cheaper and more consistent for me
dont really see the kane deal either, would be a massive risk for lots of money for a player who's only had one good year. could easily be the next carroll albeit his year being miles better than carrolls

Lloris less consistent than Begovic lolz - Begovic is one of the more overrated keepers around, just his mistakes don't get magnified because he plays for stoke who nobody on the media really cares about

Fastest Premier League hat-trick achieved in 2 minutes 56 seconds. Congratulations Sadio Mane. Well done to Shane Long with his goal as well to make it an incredible 4-0! On the other side of the coin, what on earth is going on with Villa?

Re: We Go Again! The 2014/15 Premier League Thread
Be a shame to see Villa lose Benteke this summer if that happens to be the case. Far too often we see strikers moving to bigger clubs with bigger expectations and we see them "flop", even when some actually have quite a good goalscoring record. Don't want to see him go to the likes of Spurs for example and then see him wasted. Rather have him banging in the goals for Villa next season.
I think its quite ridiculous to say that Sherwood's magic has failed over 1 extremely poor game. Ok, deserves a lot of criticism, but only based on today's performance (so far). I don't think its fair for anyone to criticise him right now. If it wasn't for him, Villa would have been down by now along with Burnley and QPR. Fair enough, awful day at the office, but these happen.

Shocking stuff from us today. Had a text to say bad start so thought it was 1-0, but saw 3-0.
What the hell is going on. Wasn't expecting this today. Very disappointing after our last couple of results.
Pi55 poor.

Even though Villa have been hammered today, they will have done it by the end of this weekend. Can't see Hull even getting a point away at Spurs so Villa should be mathematically safe by this weekend which would be good for them obviously. A Leicester win see's them all but safe, that means Sunderland would be in trouble there. Newcastle point today.
My predictions:
Burnley 1-1 Stoke
QPR 0-0 Newcastle
Sunderland 2-1 Leicester - There has to be another twist, surely Leicester and a couple of others are going to be safe by the weekend.
Spurs 1-0 Hull
West Ham 1-1 Everton
Liverpool 2-2 Crystal Palace
A lot of draws, very tight games. Sat on the fence really for a lot of them...

For their own sake Spurs want to lose, a season without the Europa league will do them the world of good and give them more time to focus on the premier league.

Re: We Go Again! The 2014/15 Premier League Thread
I don't think Robert Huth has got as much credit as he may well deserve at Leicester. The unsung hero really. He adds plenty of Premier League experience to that Leicester side and I thought would be a good signing, and he has turned out to be. He came in January, not to much avail as Leicester were out of form really. Then as Pearson changed his system come the back end of February, he's really flourished.
Since the 2-0 away defeat to Man City in mid-February, Huth has been ever present in that Leicester system. Their defence has only conceded 10 goals in 9 games! For a team at the bottom of the table that is a good outcome. No all of Huth's doing, Pearson and the rest of the Leicester defence must take some credit, but Huth has really sorted that side out. In this time, they have also kept 5 clean sheets, very good indeed.
Leicester have become a lot more organised and structured at the back and in most of their games they have also gone and done the job that was required (and in some games a little bit more than expected). Its fair to say these last 2 months have really saved them. Shows how much you can get from keeping faith and loyalty in the right man as a lot of clubs would have got rid of their manager by December/January time. Not Leicester though. Credit to that players, staff and the club. And, especially Huth also.

Re: We Go Again! The 2014/15 Premier League Thread
Finally, something to talk about. Hull are all but down now, although they can't go down this weekend (mathematically). If Sunderland win, they can still catch Leicester but their goal difference is worse by 4. If the result stays like it is, they remain 3 points behind Sunderland, but with a better goal difference. So it is still possible, just a hell of a lot of work to do now.
