Faldo's last Open
Sir Nick has announced he will play in his last Open this year at St Andrews. BBC Link here
"I was there" (as Max Boyce would say) in 1990 when he won the Open there.
Always good to announce BEFORE that it will be your final event, then it doesn't matter what you score, people will forgive you. Go before being pushed.......unless he wins it of course!!!

Re: Faldo's last Open
And Tom Watson's doing the same.
Plus Watson seems to be saying that next year's Masters will also be his last.
Never been to an Open Championship; time to start planning one before it's too late!

Hope they force a playoff after tying on 254 in benign conditions.

Probably banned for getting into trouble over religion on the "It really grinds my gears thread" that was deleted from the Off Topic section. I think it's been about two weeks now (it was before the Masters so probably why he never picked for the Fantasy game) I'm not sure if he will be back from this one...

Re: Faldo's last Open
I'm not sure what he posted because one of the Mods took exception and deleted his posts. His points were supported by someone else and a huge free for all took place with lots of name calling amongst other stuff between the two sides. In the end the thread was deleted by another Mod and a new one was started. I didn't get to read all of it before it was deleted but remember thinking Super's getting banned over this.

Oof,
Not happy to hear that. Perhaps he should be allowed back in just on the Golf Board?
Some of the mods have got such thin skins, we're fortunate that barra and navy are way above the nonsense that goes on elsewhere.
Hope super_ went out with all guns blazing, sackfuls of spuds and a whole buffet of 9C, ancient fictional writing and fatty rhetoric.

Re: Faldo's last Open
Didn't he mention something about going snowboarding? Hope that's it.
His last port was April 4th so it's only just over two weeks
I seem to remember from when I was admin they had some silly rule about not discussing members' status but I'd like the thing our golf mods could at least let us know if we should be concerned about him
PS his PM link is still active on his profile - I'm not sure if it remains active if someone is banned

Heard an interview with Langer talking about God and how he was born again. He makes Webb and Zach sound like anti-christ.

Me too Mac. (For anyone else - Just look at the threads there are on this board after Grumpys comment and if you look at the Off Topic section there is a thread "Grind my Gears" that has a comment at the start that might explain it.)

Given some of the intolerant garbage that's on that thread, I imagine super-'s contribution was a bit too intellectually challenging for some to take.
Shame.

Re: Faldo's last Open
Sounds about right for some of the mod team on the forum (as a whole, not here). I wonder if some had a chip on their shoulder about how the golf forum gets away with some of the things on here compared to some of the more fascist moderation elsewhere - of course that could have worked against super, knowing (or not knowing) how much latitude he is given here
Still a ban for a rant on an off topic forum - they should be labelled "beware all who enter here" - bound to attract more contentious posts
I've never seen super post ANYTHING hurtful or profane towards another member and can't see him using bad language either. Without seeing what happened it seems harsh to me

Why would anybody have a chip on their shoulder because of what you lot get away with? Get a grip, the staff team have to deal with everybody on the board and if somebody decides to ignore what staff has asked then they are are going to come a cropper, no matter who they are.

Re: Faldo's last Open
Decided to have a look for this thread, it's just a competition to see who can be the least tolerant poster. Plenty of dog related chat, Mac, wonder how you'd go down on there?
Pleased to see that on the main list of threads wrestling has its own section not under the sports heading. Are you watching, Sky? I subscribe to sports channels for sport, not bad acting. (that intolerant enough, do you think? )

I wonder about this board sometimes. Even my comment regarding super as knowlegdeable, insightful and opinionated, just what you want posters to be, has been deleted.
navy and barra have done a great job, moderating in a very adult way. I suppose the key word there is adult.
Comments about someone shooting 254 at TOC this Open will presumably now be wasted . . . . . Hopefully saner heads will prevail.

Re: Faldo's last Open
Imagine they'll have Faldo in one morning or afternoon wave, Watson in the other. Traffic jam otherwise.
Faldo shamed Spieth in to accepting an offer of a TOC practice round when interviewing him on air this weekend. (Says he knows a caddie who'd get him round in 254.)

Always thought he was an self absorbed, argumentative know-all and I for one won't shed a tear about his departure.
Faldo on the other hand has provided many great memories and I'd love for him to go out in style.
ps - only joking super come back soon to continue the tirade against football shirts and spitting!

Faldo alive?
Yeah, he is. He just doesn't appear to be so sometimes.
Oh - I see. Return of the (anti) Mac! bet you got some actual work done in the last couple of weeks eh Sups!!!
On topic - Faldo, Watson and Woods together first 2 rounds at TOC please. Then just Faldo and Watson for the weekend!

I'm on a sticky wicket Kwini, ironically, I wasn't even involved in the fracas on the other thread, I made the initial comment and it kicked off in my absence and I was banned by association.
Regardless, good to be back so thanks for all who made it happen.

Unfortunately some of the mods on here can be a bit too touchy - that's one of the reasons why so many of us defected to "the other side" for a while.kwinigolfer wrote:Oof,

All's well if it ends well.
Are there any other Open Champions that still play The Open for whom the bell should toll? Not talking about Paul Lawrie either - sure he'll make another comeback.

Some of you need to get out - you know what I mean - more if you think the modding on here is over the top. I have been on boards where breaking the fuc**king no swearing rules will see you banned.
It is worrying that religion is given special protection from criticism on the site but hopefully over time the mods will see that this is an extremely naive naive position.
