Du Preez got a good run out for the Barbarians against Heriots last week as well. Not the most of intense games but very quick flowing so would have got the lungs burning.

Did he actually though? He was meant to be playing but I didn't see his name mentioned in any of the team sheets reporting on the game.

Just checked and he didn't end up playing, was pulled out the game just before kick off.
Big ask then for him to start tomorrow night with very little game time. Even with all the training in the world it still doesn't get you 100% match fit, only game time does that.

One thought I was having:
If the game comes down to a drop goal, who takes it? Would Heathcote maybe be needed on the bench to cover that scenario?

Oh God...don't be thinking about so close a thing! That's masochism Nematode, that's what that is.
Go for the jugular and keep the foot on the pedal for most of the 80. If it still comes down to a drop goal at the end after a game of that................ well, don't worry about it, you'll probably be unconscious

Sam H-C can even get to the ruck, pass the ball into the pocket, run back, catch the ball, then drop goal it between the posts!

I prefer the audio book format of it myself. Saves risking getting newsprint on one's hands.
By the way, is there a poncier word than "one's" in the English language?

With my one eye firmly blinking, could we please have a few votes for the Peter Horne try:
http://www1.skysports.com/pro12-try-of-the-season
The Donoghue try is miles ahead in the voting, followed by the Gilroy one. Come on you guys. What is the purpose of these boards if not feral, blind partisanship?

Rather!!!! Yes indeed, our paths have crossed and we've taken a dislike of each other from that very first meeting all those years ago. But how you can pick on one's personal hatreds and then have the gall to choose a nice young chap like 'One's' as a target for you ire???? ..... well, I don't think I shall ever understand some people and their pet-hates for totally innocuous words.

What a joke of a team. Can't even score against a 13 man Gloucester. Hope the 1872 cup keeps you warm at night when you finish 7th and your next greatest achievement of the season was beating the Dragons.

Wouldn't be a massive loss for us, I think - provided the Coo is able to carry on and they can keep Fagerson.

Agreed - by that point he'll be so over the hill he'll have moved on to the next hill!
I think he's been in decline for a few years now. Pulls himself up for the odd big game but generally he's not the player he used to be.

If true then obviously jon Welsh leaving was instigated by himself as doubt Glasgow would want to lose both him and murray.
Glasgow be looking for a tight head signing?

Euan Murray isn't a loss to Glasgow unfortunately - tbh I think he's past his best and shouldn't be in the Scotland RWC squad. That stupid penalty against Connacht and his poor scrummaging really showed that.

So Murray is World Class, past his best, old and very expensive.
Surely satisfies all of the criteria for Toulon to sign him?

That still leaves Glasgow with 4 TH props, Cussack, De Klerk, Fargerson and Rae. Two mature bulls and two promising young pups. That seems about right for a squad. None of them are likely to be away for the WC either.

Interesting to see BLair Kinghorne has just been announced as signing for Edinburgh, it has been coming for a while. By all accounts a fantastic talent hence why he is not an EDP but I have been told he is a bit of a giraffe and could be too lanky to defend the 10 channel, with a potential move to 15 in the future.
I have not looked in the press to see if its been reported however the 7s squad will find out if Scotland will register a team for next years series on the 14th of may. And former 7s player alex glashan will not get a contract with the SRU for next year and I suspect others will also go

I know a couple of the current under 18 squad and they say he's a superstar of the future - a real standout player.
He is quite a big as but you get big 10s these days - Biggar, Prystland, Sexton etc.

Not seen him play but from all accounts sounds a very good player and seems to have his head screwed on as well. 6ft 4 and 15st at the moment and will probably fill out a bit more with pro training, seems a very good prospect for the future.
His back up at u18s for scotland is apparently a very good prospect as well, Gregor haldane. Playing for Northampton Saints u18s and been their stand out player.

Majestic -sad news about that big Saffer that was playing for you at Haddington this year. I think it was you who said that guy was just massive - did you know him well?

Yep was very sad news, was a cracking player, far better than Haddingtons level. Knew him pretty well, good guy off the pitch. Brought a lot to the club in his short time not just his playing ability but some of the old school rugby values that have maybe been lost with the younger guys. Had just signed a pro deal to play for Canterbury in the ITM cup this season as well.

Wow, didn't realise he was that good. No matter how good or bad a player he was, incredibly sad that his via fiancee was pregnant too.
Kinda puts perspective on some of the petty bickering that goes on here

Yeah after he'd said play for us this season wasps had made him an offer for their academy/a team but he turned them down to honour his deal with us. Wasn't the tallest guy maybe just under 6ft but weighed in at over 110kg of just muscle, very much like pocock that when he got over the ball at the breakdown you just couldn't shift him.
As you say puts things into perspective when things like that happen especially for some of the younger boys in the team.
One of the funny moments from the season was when he got sin binned. He'd been pinged by the ref and swore in Afrikaans only for us to discover the ref had an Afrikaans wife and understood every word and binned him for it!

Anyone been to Orkney to play rugby?
They have been promoted into our league meaning we'll have a trip up there next season! Will be a full weekend job - leave on the Friday and back on the Sunday.
Good fun for us, but I'd hate to play for them and have to do that every 2nd week! Surely they'd have to get funding from the SRU to be able to participate??

RDW, I'm fairly sure that the Highland Park distillery sponsors the club to some extent or other. Even if they don't, try to organise a tour of the distillery. It is a fairly very good whisky with a unique smokiness. IMHO.

Aye they get travel expences from the SRU. I'm not sure, but I think teams that travel to them will also get some travel expences paid out. If not, I can see a fair few games being called off with some teams not being able to afford the journey!

Tricky one isn't it. You certainly don't want to exclude the far reaches of the country in case you over look a good player (even if it is Rowan Shepherd) but that travel must be a pain.
As RDW says, you can't even imagine what it must he lime for the Orkney players having to leave their wife (or "sister" as she would be known to genealogists) behind all weekend.

Right, tattie just made a good point about CDP on the cup final thread. I must admit that I had forgotten that he is, or at least soon will be, SQ.
How many of him, Strauss and Nel will be in the WC squad? I think Strauss and NFL are shoo-ins due to lack of options but, despite falling out with RDW on another thread on this subject, I think CDP might be the hairy arsed ball carrier that our backrow is missing and needs

Is du Preez a project player/does he want to be SQ and play for Scotland? He'd walk back into a SR SA team.

Does he still have a year to go? I thought he qualified before Nellie the Elephant.
I don't know if he was as blatant a "project signing" as Strauss and Nel but the fact he signed for 3 years did indicate an intent........
I may be wrong but I thought I had read an interview where he came out with the usual "I would love to play for Scotchland but I am not thinking that far ahead" etc
