We might have the money but it is a different thing all together trying to persuade a world class wing not to join a French or English team offering the same cash!

Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh: Ongoing Banter Thread VIII
The French teams next season are going to be more restricted on the amount of foreigners they have in their squads and match day team. A new rule has been brought in where a teams squad has to have a certain percentage that have come through a French clubs academy system.
Already there are a few high profile casualties like David smith the Toulon wing who is being let go because of this rule. He is struggling to get a team in France for next season and quite a few other foreign players are being let go as well from the top 14 teams so they comply with the rule. It could make the pro12 a far more attractive alternative for some of the foreign players.

A lot will depend upon how patient he is. Does he take the money now, he will not get offered anything like that playing for the Tah's, especially in his current uncapped state?
After the WC there will undoubtedly be chances of Wallaby caps, but he is no where near ready just yet. If they cap him now it will purely be to tie him in and I can't believe that he won't be aware of that!
I am of the opinion that if he commits, then let him come, but we do need that commitment from him. If that is not there then we do need to bail. He is a young man who is going to have to ask himself some serious questions over the next few weeks/months. If he has already put pen to paper though, he may not find it as easy to get out of it as he and the Warratahs hope!

Well Big T is on his way to Glasgow, now that is a signing and a half! Worth waiting for I would say!
It always did make more sense him coming to Glasgow, we needed a wing and he will get the ball a lot more!

Assuming he comes Glasgow is the best outcome, Embra have Fife, Helu, Hoyland, Allen, Farndale so really don't need another wing. Plus if rumours are true he's on a big contract which would have eaten up too much of the budget for other players.
Edit: forgot Brown and Robbins who is on the Macphail so no need for more wingers.

Huge signing for Glasgow in more ways than one. He is in good form in super rugby despite being a pretty raw talent and is only going to get better with more game time.
Glad he has gone to Glasgow instead of Edinburgh as I think Glasgow will be better suited to getting the best out of him.

Talking of Michael Allen what did people think of him against Glasgow? I only managed to catch the highlights but from the glimpse's I saw I wasn't overly impressed. Looked a bit sluggish and got absolutely gassed by Hogg for his try.

Massive signing for Glasgow - gutted he's not at Edinburgh but Glasgow certainly need him more.
Very excited to see what he can do with that Glasgow backline.

Warriors posted Tacky's highlight reel on Twitter. Very impressive. Looking forward to seeing him in a Glasgow Jersey. Some real big hitters on their way into Glasgow shirts next season. It's about time the Warriors had some real muscle.
On the Edinburgh side, well deserved award for Hidalgo-Clyne. He's had a great season.

It's been great playing with the likes of Adam Ashley-Cooper and Kurtley Beale at the Waratahs this season. They've been really helpful and I've learnt a lot from them.
I've heard a lot of good things about Lee Jones and Peter Murchie so look forward to learning from them too
Ok I may have added that last bit in...

Yeah I just watched that as well. He certainly is destructive, I would not fancy having to tackle him. You suspect he is going to become a real crowd favourite.
You do wonder that the fact that Niko, Naka and Jerry have settled so well in Glasgow makes it a desirable destination for other Fijian players. Long may the link carry on!

Excellent signing. And hopefully no get-outs. It is subject to him getting a visa, but the other concern about there being a get-out if he was picked for Aus seems to have been addressed if Toonie's comments are anything to go by. " ...we know he will be with us regardless of any international commitments."

It is out in the open now and everyone has had their say on record, so I don't see any going back. He will be playing for Glasgow next season!
It does not sound like he was ever going to Edinburgh, always a red herring probably caused by the Aussie press not being able to tell the two cities apart.

That suggests that Glasgow/SRU don't mind if he was to be selected by Australia or Fiji?

If he moved to Scotland having been capped by Australia in the summer he'd no longer be eligible for international selection anyway

Australia won't select him from overseas as he does not meet their criteria. He is no where near ready for a cap yet anyway and they are not short of decent wingers.
The same applies to Fiji, who have big massive wingers growing on trees. It does seem that for now he is happy to play club rugby and make his international decisions further down the line.

Will that be the last of the winger signings for Glasgow, obviously two are leaving so do Glasgow need another one brought in?
Still hearing that McNicholl is leaving the Crusaders at the end of super rugby to come to Europe & has been speaking to the SRU.
I also heard that one of the 13s that Edinburgh are looking at for the X factor is Charlie Ngatai but he point blank refused. Wants to stay in NZ where he is the Maori captain and wants an All Blacks cap. Good decision by him as he and Fekitoa could well be the starting all black centres next year!

Really good signing for Glasgow - I'm just gutted he isn't coming to Edinburgh. Hopefully the budget that would/could have been spent on this guy will go towards finding us a decent fly half.
I can see this guy really making hay in the Glasgow back three.

It does make more sense that he comes to Glasgow to find out what rain truly is. I think that we're forgetting the most important thing though - how the hell is Hugh Dan going to pronounce Taqele Naiyaravoro without having a stroke.
It's not just that he's huge and pretty quick but he can clearly offload in that Fijian way - check out the passes out of contact in the highlight reel. Dare I suggest that he suits the Weegie style of player better than the Edinburgh one?
Glasgow needed him desperately. The good thing is the implication that (a) there are more signings to come - reference was to their "seventh" signing and not their "final" one and (b) they are increasing in terms of excitement/interest.
So we're looking at.
09Hidalgo-Clyne Pyrgos/Hart
10 Russell
11 Naiyaravoro
12 Dunbar
13 Bennett
14 Seymour
15 Hogg
Ooops. Got a bit ahead of myself there.
Give it time, though. Give it time.

That must be one of the best backlinea in the Pro 12.
The problem for Glasgow though is that almost all of them will be on international duty a lot!

Ooops. Got a bit ahead of myself there.
Give it time, though. Give it time.
That is damn funny. The Jim Davidson of 606v2....

Agreed. I think the Glasgow 1st XV will be exceptional next season but injuries, international call-ups and departures have seriously eroded the depth.

On the Edinburgh side, well deserved award for Hidalgo-Clyne. He's had a great season.
It is a little known fact that there is a deep and long-standing antipathy between sociable, friendly, family loving Fijians and their less welcoming, slightly pretentious neighbours in Manu Samoa. Many impartial observers put this down to the fact that the traditional Samoan greeting to visitors translates as, "Of course, you'll have had your tea."

I understood that's what the Manoa Sivi Tau is all about - it's a dance asking if there aren't any scones on the go, or at the very least, a couple of Tunnock's Caramel Wafers.jimbopip wrote:BigGee wrote:Eejit wrote:Warriors posted Tacky's highlight reel on Twitter. GC, the above mentioned confections while delicious are a little too "demotic" for the tribes from the east. Remember what happened when some lowly serf served pink wafer biscuits in RBS HQ? It resulted in the end of international banking as we knew it.
I'm just waiting for Gibsonto come on and explain how it was karmakally crucial that the cosmic balance in Glasgow's west-end be maintained by 6 foot 5 and 19 stones of rampaging havoc once the quiet and understated Nicola had left.

I believe the Eastern Tribes refer to it as "dinner"......

Sounds like the sort of place you should have sent Sean Maitland.

Quite right. The jury is still out on whether Dodson sent Naiyaravoro away from Edinburgh's doors because they already had the electrifying Dougie Fife.funnyExiledScot wrote:jimbopip wrote:Ah, you can take boy out of the finishing school: but you can't take the finishing school out of the boy.

Sadly I think you're correct. Naiyaravoro failed the Maitland test at Edinburgh. Too quick, too strong and far far too much potential.
Anyway, we're getting a couple of players that Wasps and Ulster don't want, so right back at ya!

Much as I hate to side with my eastern brethren, but that is funny and cutting at the same time.

To be fair, if Edinburgh had signed Big T our NSQ contingent in the backs would tip towards an unhealthy level. We've already got Helu and Allan coming.
We might still have another NSQ back coming in, but we really could do with a Duncan Taylor or that Huw Jones bloke joining.

Enough of this being fair, how about Glasgow take Helu and Allan, and we'll take the really good bloke from Fiji!!

I'm confident Helu will be a good signing - any player that scores 2 tries against Toulon in European knock out rugby is obviously a good calibre player.
The jury is out on Allan, but Ulster fans generally seem to rate him.

I think you might be forgetting that you've also signed the Highlander's vice captain. Edinburgh aren't doing so badly.
Besides, Allan now has more experience in some of the things he'll be seeing at Edinburgh next season. Stuart Hogg flying past him to score, for example.
