Now you've gone and upset me, RDW.
Or at least you would have if my head wasn't full with plans for where I'll watch the final on Saturday, which 23 names will erupt from the magic tombola, wondering how the new signings will cope with the pressure of being the top side in the league, considering wether we cam make three finals in a row next year.
Anyway, when my head is slightly emptier I promise I will be upset.

Pringle would win as Big Al would provide "leadership" to proceedings

Of course. It's like making a joke about a member of my family or about how cashmere-sodden and pretentious my small Ayrshire town was growing up.RDW_Scotland wrote:George Carlin wrote:Or it would be a draw as Large Alastair would be too busy inspecting the octagon from the fringes to actually get inside.

Incredible playoff game - Worcester score last play of the game and needing a touchline conversion to win by a point - they got it.
Bristol lose the playoff again.

Means Aviva premiership experience for a young Scottish coach, Simon Cross the ex-Edinburgh flanker who is defence coach for Worcester.
I just hope Worcester can be less dreary than they have been on their last few forays into the top flight. Though with Dean Ryan in charge i'm not confident.

Along with Tom Heathcote.
Slightly disappointed for Mitch eadie at Bristol. Was looking forward to seeing him being tested in the premiership as he looks a great prospect at no8. Reminds me a bit of a young ally Hogg.

Yes, with respect to all the delights of Clifton and the molten bronze droplets of genius flowing from the Andy Robinson's rugby Pez dispensor, guys like Eadie, Morgan and Jones have to be looking for an avenue out or kiss goodbye to their international aspirations. The likes of Eadie would be a solid squad choice for a Jeff side, at least.funnyExiledScot wrote:I thought Eadie was superb tonight. Surely one of the top flight sides will take a look?

Inexperienced as he is of top level rugby, I actually think Eadie should be brought in to the Scotland set up as quickly as possible, he looks to have all the attributes to be a really good player; very fast, hard working etc. If he were to move to a Prem club down south and get game time then we could lose him to England, is that worth the risk? Blake was considered worth including by Cotter in the Scotland squad and he certainly hasn't more top level rugby experience than Eadie.

He can't be selected until he has completed enough pro game time according to the FES formula

Eadie reminds me of Ashe - doesn't look massive but is very dynamic and pretty stocky so is a powerful carrier.

From a Scots perspective, promotion will be a great test for Carl Hogg and Simon Cross. I wonder if we'll see them at Edinburgh at some point? However I question whether Heathcote will be able to oust Lamb, unless its for kicking?

Heathcoat's kicking has been awful for Edinburgh, Ryan Lamb's kicking won them promotion yesterday!

From an England perspective he would have to be some prospect to generate enough interest to unseat the incumbent monsters and prospects we have at 8. There are a lot of good 8s about.

I see that Tommy Spinks has signed for Jersey.
Another player who is far too good to have had the wasted year he has just had sitting on the sidelines. He would have been good enough to join a Jeff team as a squad member IMHO, but I suppose that a year out means he needs to prove himself in the Championship all over again. Pleased he will be getting to play every week, though.

You're absolutely right RDW. Just checked the scores. My bad. Didn't catch the game and had a (probably) unfounded preconception that Lamb's kicking could be a bit wayward and that Heathcote's was one of his strengths - irrespective of this season. However my point stands, I'm not sure Tam will be able to dislodge the present incumbent, which is a shame.

The only concern I'd have with Eadie would be over his size, not for club rugby but at international level. Scotland would probably play him at 7 though, so less of an issue......

I feel sorry for Spinks (and Bordill).
It works well for Glasgow - good, cheap, SQ squad depth - but for the players they're just not going to get that game time they need at an important age.
Feel the SRU could use SJ's salary or find funds from elsewhere to really promote London Scottish as a breeding ground.

I would prefer these guys going to LS than to Jersey or whoever else but ideally to an AP team. Obviously that is not in the control of Glasgow or the SRU though.
It seems as though Bordill is rated higher at Scotstoun than Spinks is/was but his problem is that Fusaro is unlikely to make any of the international squads so it is difficult to see where his game time will come from. He is now probably the 4th choice openside and, if he was thought to be capable for games this season, I don't think we would have brought in Favaro.

Shame Tommy hasn't made it at Glasgow.
Think he would have been better off staying at LS instead of going to Glasgow. He would have got regular game time as he was thought highly off by the LS coaches. Slightly surprised he hasn't gone back there, though I do know he has had problems with his agent and Is in the process of getting a new one.

Think he would have been better off staying at LS instead of going to Glasgow. He would have got regular game time as he was thought highly off by the LS coaches. Slightly surprised he hasn't gone back there, though I do know he has had problems with his agent and Is in the process of getting a new one.
Is that two or three ex-Warriors over in Jersey now? Spinks and Nick Campbell - I cant remember if there is another.

Glenn Bryce had been at Jersey before he joined Glasgow. Think it will be just Campbell and spinks but could be wrong.
I spotted Tom Ryder is leaving Northampton & joining Yorkshire Carnegie next season.

Also Fiji have named their training squad for the Pacific nations and the world cup. It includes Niko, Jerry and Nakawara but no mention of Big T. Good news for Glasgow in the short term and also possibly Scotland long term.

Didn't one of George Graham's boys go to Jersey as well?

Now Kahui can play a bit. He's like Strauss except quick, with excellent balance and great handling skills. I could see Scott and Kahui getting famously.
Watched David Smith play tonight against Ireland. Very useful indeed.

Doesn't he have a dodgy injury history? We've tried crocked ex ABs before and that didn't work well.

This raises an interesting question. Is it better to sign a good player with a bad injury record, or a bad player with a good injury record??

Look at wilkinson. His injury record was terrible at Newcastle, switched to Toulon and barely missed any games through injury. Sometimes players just need a change of scenery to get their injuries out the way.

Waratahs’ wrecking ball Taqele Naiyaravoro revealed as Fiji’s secret weapon against Wallabies!!!
As if the Taqele Naiyaravoro saga hasn’t taken enough twists and turns, we can reveal that the giant Waratahs winger will commit to Fiji for the World Cup.
Naiyaravoro has been linked to both Australia and Scotland, but he has given assurances to Fiji that he will be available to them, which means he could be lining up directly against NSW teammates and coach Michael Cheika when the Wallabies play their first World Cup match against the Flying Fijians.
Naiyaravoro showed yet again his damaging abilities last weekend by crossing for two tries against the Crusaders, which now makes him second-equal top tryscorer in Super Rugby alongside Waisake Naholo and one behind TJ Perenara.
His rival last weekend, Nemani Nadolo, is one of Fiji’s spearheads for the World Cup campaign, and had chats with Naiyaravoro prior to the match.
By playing for a Pacific Island team, Naiyaravoro’s deal with Glasgow becomes easier because he can be capped as a second-tier international, which falls under a lesser category in European clubs’ recruitment policy than those who have represented Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

Well it takes another twist as he hasn't been named in their World Cup training squad!

I personally think Glasgow should sign him regardless. He clearly meets the quality threshold for an NSQ player, and is basically a direct replacement for DTH.

I agree, I'd still sign him even if he is capped as he is going to be a top quality player and the type of player that is going to attract fans to games.
It is pretty interesting though that Fiji haven't selected him despite the reports coming from Fiji that he was definitely going to be in their squad.

Agreed - he looks to be good enough player to sign regardless of whether he is a project player or not.
It still will be an unbelievable situation if he turns out for Scotland in 3 years time though - got to love the eligibility rules.
At least in Strauss and Nel's case they had pretty much accepted they wouldn't play for South Africa.
If Big T moves to Scotland and deliberately doesn't make himself available for Fiji then that is a different case altogether, and one I won't be overly comfortable with.
We don't know whether that is his plan of course...

He's a great player, but not quite the finished article. He still needs to work on restarts and has only had one season of professional rugby union. Fiji are well placed in their backline so he maybe simply wasn't quite good enough.

He'll fit right in with the rest of the Scotland team then!
