Looks like Glasgow will be playing against DTH sooner then you'd think...
Glasgow Warriors wrote:We're delighted to announce we'll play Canada in a pre-season match in Nova Scotia on Saturday 29 August. Full details will follow tomorrow.
Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh: Ongoing Banter Thread VIII
Question is though, what sort of Glasgow team will be there?
There is likely to be IRO 15-18 players with Scotland, 3 players with Fiji and DTH at Canada. That essentially leaves a 2nd/3rd team to play an international side that ran Scotland close about 15 months earlier.
Presumably, we won't benefit from having Scotland squad players available??

Nope, especially since that's the same day we're playing Italy at Murrayfield!
Still at the moment I feel like we could take on the world!
Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh: Ongoing Banter Thread VIII
I have tickets for the game at Murrayfield, and would hope that we have a strong team out for our only home warm-up game. so I can only see this as an easy hit-out for Canada.

Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh: Ongoing Banter Thread VIII
Likewise. And expect that'll be the case. Weird fixture to have, but guess it'll give the fringe, fringe players some valuable experience.
Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh: Ongoing Banter Thread VIII
So presumably for the Canada game we are looking at:
1. Grant (presuming Reid and Dickinson go ahead of him)
2. Bryce
3. De Klerk
4. Swinson
5. Paterson
6. Eddie
7. Fusaro
8. Wilson
9. Blair
10. Hunter
11. Hughes
12. Lyle
13. Johnson
14. Jones
15. Murchie
We could have MacArthur, Murray (if he doesn't retire), StrAuss, Ashe, Pyrgos, Weir, Dunbar, Bennett, the New Fijian and maybe Lamont but most if not all will be with Scotland without surprising mitigating circumstances. Conversely we could be without Grant, Fusaro or Wilson. It also leaves us in a really tricky situation during the World Cup but hopefully it'll allow new players to come through during the period and also to develop even better depth. But it's not easy being Champions is it?

So with Glasgow winning the league, but Edinburgh winning the 1872, does that mean (morally speaking) that Edinburgh are the best team in the league??

Also the important matter now is who's captain now Kellock is gone? I suppose Strauss is the favourite by quite some distance, Gray is probably in with a shout and then Hogg, Harley and Pyrgos as the dark horses. But then Toonie doesn't like to do the obvious so presumably we'll be looking at Yanuyanutawa being crowned fairly shortly.

I'm not expecting it to be anyone other than Strauss.
He captained the Golden Lions and seems to be a natural leader here.
I expect Henners Piecrust may also be candidate.

Scottish rugby did loss another legend this year and it has gone largely under the radar, for those of you dreaming of World Class Phil leading Scotland to World Cup and Six Nations glory and returning to Edinburgh to win the Challenge Cup and the Pro12 I'm afraid to say that dream is over as he did retire a few weeks back. Sorry to bring everyone back down to earth.

Gentlemen, let us take a moment to consider that money does not indeed buy happiness. You can reside in Stockbridge and bathe in yak's milk while dining on quail's eggs washed down with civet excreted coffee beans but if you insist on following the MFL and Glasgow rangers you are bound to spend an inordinate amount of time weeping into your satin pillows.
Sleep well FES you know we love you.

Thanks Jimbo!
Suffice to say the Warriors win on Saturday, plus Duncan Taylor performing well for Sarries, were the only sporting highlights for me this weekend.
The mighty Gers will bounce back. Form is temporary, class is permanent.

Don't bring me into it! I was watching the game with my dad, even deeper into the Fife Quarantine zone (Kirkcaldy).
Thought the soap dodgers were tremendous on Saturday. They really did Scottish rugby proud.

Interesting news, according to the ever reliable Wikipedia, Romania are coming over here to play both the Pro12 Champions & the 1872 Cup winners as part of their world cup warm up.
Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh: Ongoing Banter Thread VIII
Makes sense for clubs to play the smaller rugby nations I suppose - works well for both!

Indeed, although looks like it might just be one team the Romanians are playing in this brilliantly translated article is anything to go by

It is also possible that national oak leaf still claim a training match in the company of club teams from Scotland, Edinburgh (finalist in this year ERCC) or Glasgow Warriors

Quick mention...Great week up in Scotland. Loch Tay, and the surrounding area stunning. Good food n beer. Haggies neeps n tatties washed down with a Bellhaven best, delicious. Edinburgh was good, did all the touristy places. Altho Stirling has a far better castle. Brought back a Tennents pint glass as a souvenier.

On an unrelated note. I just had my lunch. A homemade pasta salad with fennel and Sorrel leafs, free range poached chicken thighs, olives and red pepper, all topped with goats cheese curd and pine nuts. Of course all veg came from my weekly organic veg delivery.
Should I swap over to supporting Edinburgh, I feel I should, but I have enough disappointment in my life already.

Should I swap over to supporting Edinburgh, I feel I should, but I have enough disappointment in my life already.
Well my lunch was entirely courtesy of the Tesco reduced aisle - I feel like we should swap allegiances!
Aren't you getting married though? As long as you aren't serving tesco value beans at your wedding you'll never really be a weegie.

Sounds like you had a good time! A few things though:
Best & Tennents = horse urine
Stirling Castle better than Edinburgh?? We've got the crown jewels don't you know!
Exactly. You can keep your rubbishy Sir Walter Scott memorial.
I dunno when in Rome. I was up for a real ale or two but kids in pubs are as welcome as St George cross flying EDL members on the royal mile. Chuckled that the Crown Jewels were buried in 1941 in fear of a German invasion.

I also like the reduced aisle of supermarkets though.
Shame Bathgate aren't in the Pro12 then.

In an attempt to crash the Scottish pro game back down to earth by assuring us that mismanagement and irrational decision making is still ongoing Shade Munro's reward for Glasgow's success was demotion to the women's game.
This is all while we have a Welshman who's achieved little of note coaching the rugby ability out of our forwards and they've treated a proven, Scottish forwards coach with a history of success working with a large number of Scotland's current forwards (Cusack, Grant, Reid, Welsh, Brown, Gray, Gray, Swinson, Harley, Ashe, Barclay, Blake, Strauss and Wilson). How are we ever supposed to succeed on the international front if the current attitude at the SRU is that if their Scottish their likely to be worse than if they are from elsewhere? And by that I mean the project players and abundance of foreign coaches. The only Scottish people who seems to make headway within the SRU are middle of the road players who toe the party line and get a nice reward; what have Duncan Hodge, Stevie Scott and Greig Laidlaw achieved in the game that allows them their unassailable status within the SRU whilst the likes of Shade Munro get treated like utter dogshite.

In today's world, you can't just sack someone numbers. The law favours the employee and the SRU aren't that stupid.
I'd say when his contract is up for renewal, it'll be ta ta back down the road.

I get what you're saying but what organisation in the world would sack a member of a league winning coaching staff. Also if they are using the woman's game as a holding pen for sackings it is incredibly degrading.

HAUD THE BUS!!
Manly, tough, butch, Glasgow. Forever slagging Edinburgh for being pampered effeminate ladyparts. Glasgow people eat steak for breakfast with Megadeath blaring out whereas Edinburgh have All-Bran light with a cup of prune juice, while a bit of Bach plays in the background.
Well well well.
A certain development has come to pass tonight, something that makes up for the years of slagging and abuse.
Glasgow Warriors have adopted a song of their own, one with inspiring lyrics to drive the players forward and unite the crowd in a sense of unity.
A taste of some of the lyrics:
So who sings such a song, I hear you ask? Surely a trendy, music mad city like Glasgow would want a cool, trendy band to represent them? They play some Biffy Clyro, so surely they would want something similar to inspire the massses?
Who indeed.
Ladies, gentlemen and Ianbru (are the plums gone yet?), the answer may surprise you.
The band chosen to represent everything Glasgow Warriors stand for....
BOYZONE!!

Every battle, every scar
We are warriors
Hear us shouting from our hearts
This is who we are
We will travel near and far
For the thousand wars

I can see Bru, GC, Jimbo and Schiz forming a fine tribute band in years to come.

Totally. I just need a black leather stool, a 'flock of seagulls' haircut, a lobotomy and a complete loss of self respect.funnyExiledScot wrote:
