A new Six Nations
Well this looks promising, there looks as though there will be an American 6N, could this be the catalyst for rugby in North America ? This could start a lot of countries in North and South America sorting out their domestic rugby, Argentina will obviously rule the roost for a while, but it would not be long before the others catch up, I will be expecting Canada to make waves in this tournament.

It is very interesting indeed.

Argentina will probably be playing their developing players coming through their domestic club system in this and their established top flight players in the Rugby Championship, so it might be closer than you think.

Re: A new Six Nations
I think it's a disgrace that these Six aren't let in to play in the Real Six Nations. Why don't we have a 12 Nations with Promotion/Relegation? We have to help these smaller Nations and allow them to play the Cream of the Six Nations more often.

Re: A new Six Nations
What a load of nonsense Fly, lets have a RWC tier 2, on this years results, Scotland, Italy and France would be available to challenge the up and coming nations like Canada, USA, Portugal and the various steroid driven Eastern European nations.
If the Yanks can win anything, the TV rights go through the roof, (TV as in television if you are inclined towards the other sort of TV) so plenty of wonga to develop the game.
I will probably regret saying this when the effects of the second bottle of wine wear off. Apologies in advance.

Re: A new Six Nations
How can Argentina be a part of this new 6 nations?
I thought Argentina played in the 4 nations along with SA, Aus, ans NZ?
Have they (Argentina) left the 4 nations championship or what ever it is called?

I think Argentina Should leave The Rugby Championship (that's what it's called ). And Japan should be brought in instead.

Re: A new Six Nations
Argentina will play in both competitions like they always have done (they play in a South American version of this). This will be nothing more than a development compeition imo with the best players unavailable to most of the teams.
It's unfortunatley not a cataylst for rugby in South America but a professional club rugby system could be!

a) Why not? Where is the rule you can only play in one tournament?
b) They do.
c) No.
The chances of Argentinas best XV playing in this tournament are slim to none. None of their established players will be available whenever the games are; in the February/March window they will be playing Super Rugby or club rugby in Europe. They will not give up their tests in the Rugby Championship or in the June and November touring window.
They may give out test caps for these games, but it will be a reserve team to audition homegrown players from their domestic club game for further honours. They already play matches against other South American teams with homegrown players when the big guns are not available but these are usually very one-sided. This would offer a better calibre of opponent.
It's like England Saxons playing in the Churchill Cup, it's not a replacement for the Rugby Championship.

Re: A new Six Nations
Agree it would have to be a developmental Argie team. I get to Brazil and Argentina a couple of times a year and the level of Rugby in Brazil is low. I had no idea there was Rugby played in Chile at all. Uruguay, Canada, and America are all roughly even at the moment. I wonder who is funding this. Flying guys up and down the Western Hemisphere costs a lot of money.
Interesting tidbit about Rugby in Brazil. In the late 1800s some itinerant Brits in Sao Paulo founded the Sao Paulo Athletic Club. They introduced two sports to Brazil: Soccer and Rugby. They built a walled compound and two pitches, one for soccer and one for Rugby. SPAC is still there and the pitches are still there as well. I suppose soccer did a little better in Brazil than Rugby. They can learn from the error of their ways.........

Re: A new Six Nations
Sounds like a good idea, are North and South America on different seasons though, like the Northern and southern hemisphere?
The difference between Canada and Argentina is much greater than Britain and south Africa.
Still if they put it on the same time frame as the 6 nations it could be a winner.

Re: A new Six Nations
Wouldn't it have been easier to have two separate 5n?
North American 5n
USA
Canada
Mexico
A central American side or a combined Central American XV
A Carribean side or a combined Carribean XV.
South American 5n
Argentina Development,
Brazil,
Chile,
Uruguay,
+1 (Paraguay, Columbia etc) or a combined Rest of South America XV
It would avoid all the travel costs etc.

Re: A new Six Nations
As well as Argentina playing in the Rugby Championship, do the USA and Canada not play in the Pacific Nations?
I think it plays during the NH summer but not sure if that is a full strength comp or a development thing.
