Wow! There can't be many sides who chase down 10 an over without calling on the services of the bloke who made 355* in their first innings. And a gentle reminder from Interesting to the England selectors - at a time when the One Day side is in a state of flux - that he's a more than useful proven one day player.

Re: Surrey vs Leicestershire LV=County Championship
As Bob Paisley (heard of him, Olly?) said after Liverpool won the European Cup for the first time, ''I'm just going to have the one all night. I want to be able to always remember this match.''
Wonderful victory and entertainment but concerns remain. They're not for now though.

Jimbob - you're right. I had already opened the mess bar but had forgotten to get out a couple of options!

Meanwhile, great rearguard actions from both Northants (especially) and Glam, holding on for the draw with last wicket partnerships. Northants last pair kept out Derby bowling for around 20 overs...

That's good for us as well. The less wins other teams get the better.

Re: Surrey vs Leicestershire LV=County Championship
So Pietersen's 355 not out does not end up in a drawn cause. Perhaps he'll be back to contribute more for Surrey, perhaps not, but this was an incredible match, not a bad way at all to go, if it ends up that way.......
And BTW, has Davies given up the gloves for good?
He is perceived to be yet another misfit in that England dressing room but.......

And perhaps one day in the not too distant future, young Jason Roy will be entertaining a wider cricket world, and may be fill that Pietersen sized void in that England side.......
Is he in the habit of asking questions and speaking his mind?

Re: Surrey vs Leicestershire LV=County Championship
Its worth remembering that Leicestehire dont have a left arm spinner, so KPS runs dont count
Yes MSP Davies has pretty much given up keeping to concentrate on his batting, although I guess its not impossible he would go back. England arent short on batsman keepers though...Bairstow has been in the runs as well. Its not impossible he could force his way back into the reckoning, but currently Lyth and Lees are ahead of him for an openers spot and playing in division 1. He could make a case for the limited overs sides mind. Im not so sure it was a face doesnt fit thing with him so much as Prior coming back (a retrospectively bad Trott style selection) and then his form slumping after the death of Maynard.

Re: Surrey vs Leicestershire LV=County Championship
Does Davies open regularly for Surrey in FC cricket? Lyth certainly has to have first go, but Lees isn't all that experienced is he? Perhaps if Davies opens regularly and perform consistently, he can force his way back.......

No, neither Davies nor Jason Roy open for Surrey in FC cricket (other than in exceptional circumstances of a very tight run chase where, as here, Surrey revert to their T20 opening pair). Burns and Ansari are the reasonably established opening pair in the county championship.

Re: Surrey vs Leicestershire LV=County Championship
msp83: on a likelihood scale of 0-10, Steve Davies's chances of opening for England in a Test Match probably are somewhere around 0 - despite this hundred and a x2 hundred earlier in the season (but made from the middle order). Much more likely should be a call up, ie recall, to the England One Day set up, especially if he goes well in the shorter game for Surrey this season.

Re: Surrey vs Leicestershire LV=County Championship
Due to the player's openness, there's an interesting (no pun intended) and slightly revealing interview on the club website with Davies. It at least goes further than the ''well played, you must be delighted'' fare that Churchy usually serves up and sticks to.
Noticeable as well that both Davies and Batty had little positive to say about the wicket.

Burns and Ansari are very slow though. Having Roy and Davies opening would give the start of the innings much more impetus, especially now Davies isn't keeping any more.
