The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the Tommy Bowe photo on the bar. That's a banning offence
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

BBC clip on how to avoid being killed by cucumbers.
Personally I'd just carry a flamethrower, and shoot on sight ...
And has anyone actually had their accounts debited for Olympic tickets? Starting to think I've missed out

Kiwi - I didn't apply, but my friend has been successful, she found out a couple of weeks ago though. Apparently they have until midnight tonight to debit accounts?

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Think you're dead right on the six nations being overvalued red stag. Aside from a couple of games it's mostly very poor in terms of quality (we're all still glued to it nonetheless though). As for poor Paddy Wallace, I always liked him. I remember a few summers ago he had a great summer tour and, with D'arcy playing so poorly, you'd think he'd get a chance, but it seems unlikely. I assume the rationale for him not playing was ROG was weak defensively as it is, so having a perceived weak inside centre would be a bad idea. I never thought he was particularly weak defensively and with D'arcy against France you couldn't get any worse anyway. I wouldn't mind seeing him and sexton together in one of the warm up matches but I doubt he's going to be starting against Australia in the world cup anyway.
Don't think I have anything everyone else disputes. Think I had a disagreement about Felix Jones going to the world cup with Notch the other day and most of my friends disagree with me on that too but I reckon everyone (including deccie) will come around to my way of thinking by August/September

I was a bit nervous last week as my account balance dropped a little under the value of tickets I applied for just before payday, but apparently they've emailed anyone who's debit failed. Fingers crossed

Ah yea selection issues are ok but we all have a hobby horse somewhere. My other one is that 7s a separate sport and I don't see why it is linked to rugby union.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Afternoon all.
I tried to read back but my eyes got sore.
But in sort, Pete, I do like to mix with the famous on Twitter ha.
Stag he was getting a bit of stick on twitter and I replied to him saying that I felt over all he had a good game and certainly is a good honest ref.
I pointed out that I felt one decision frustrated me and when he asked what I told him. But I admitted that it wasn't necessarliy his fault that it was missed as well...
I am in holiday mode already and it's only Tuesday. but come Friday, wexford for 10 days here I come. and there is supposed to be a heat wave.

Micky, I think a ref should be able to back up his decisions after the game and there's nothing wrong with it. I've often had players ask me something after a match and they just didn't understand the reason why at the time.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Stag,
It is Union just with less players on the pitch and less time. It's an exhibition game.

I agree stag and he seemed very receptive to be honest. I wasn't too frustrated in heinsight of his performance so that was fine. It was more that this incident happened right in front of us so that's why I mentioned it as such. haven't heard a reply back yet though

I know it is but it won't change my mind. 5 a side soccer isn't the same as as what Real Madrid and Man Utd play and is treated very differently.
I can't understand the close link between the two and your unlikely to convince me.

You off down to the caravan again Micky? Hope it stays sunny for you. It's nice here today but breezy. I'm actually looking forward to getting back to work, I've had too many bank holidays together recently. I'll be doing some work experience elsewhere in a couple of weeks too. So that'll be a change of scenery and people

Stag,
My bug bear/bedbug is the disciplinary punishments which are calculated in days, and not in matches;I feel this could be one of the rare 'inventions' that we can borrow from our soccer chums.
Just started ploughing through a series of Jo Nesbo books that I bought over there last week;anyone read any of them?

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Yeh Cari, but don't tell herself you called it a carivan.. it's a mobile. and a luxury one at that.
Only bad thing is the signal down there but the weather is supposed to be heat wave on saturday and sunday. and i have 3 games of golf planned so I will be kept b usy.
Good stuff on the change of scenary. I could soo do with one myself. That new team I have taken over I seriously believe will significantly shorten my stay in this company. It's too much to handle. well it's not that it's too much but its just that I have so much to deal with and so much "red tape" to work through that it is effecting my other work load as well as my enjoyment in the company.

I'm torn between taking a new job or staying in my current one. Really can't decide.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I don't have any problems with the process,as long as it's equitable,it's just the 'sentence', e.g.suspending a player for 21 days when there are no games on seems a bit unfair compared to a similar verdict in the heat of a championship/cup competition.

Like I say it's only work experience as there's the possibility I can get redeployed somewhere, but there's no guarantee that'll happen either. At least I show willing and enthusiasm, and it'll be an experience if nothing else.

Staggy aren't you finishing anyway to go to uni or was that part time?
When making decisions, I think you should consider what you actually want before you look at the pro's and cons. If you really want to move, and the new place appears to be a good prospect then I'd say do it. If you're not fussed on moving then don't if you don't need to.

Well I think there's the problem Stag, you're comparing it to Barca-Real Madrid when the game itself will fully admit it isn't.
The game is intended by the iRB as a development tool and most importantly a way of getting into the conscious of people who haven't had much exposure to rugby.

I can't remember where, but someone actually had the gall to blame Luke Fitzgerald for Howlett's try this past weekend.
There is a real downer on him at the moment to the point where he is being blamed for things that just aren't his fault.

I'm going to Uni but its designed for people in employment.
I don't like this place really. Most staff only stay here 3 months. Its a 24km commute to work every day and I don't have a car. I work in a big room with no windows and the pay really isn't great.
However I have steady hours 9.00-5.30 and am off on weekends. This is the only thing keeping me at the company. Also I have a full time contract with them.
If I got a similar job in Limerick with same pay and hours I'd love it.

Stade Français Saga..la suite
The powers that be have now given Stade until Wednesday to show thjat they have the 12million Euros(to wipe the 5.8m debt, and have cash in the coffers)
Where is the money from, you ask
from a Montreal based foundation called "Facem"-which loosely translates as "Foundation for the Improvement of the Condition of Children
in the World.now what interest can a charitable organisation have in investing money in some blingy French rugby club;to begin with, you'd never be able to see their logo on the shirts
Apparently much of the evaporated cash from the last few seasons went the way of Sportys,a sports management company based in Paris, who have fingers in several pies including Tour de France,NBA in France,Les Barbarians etc.
things look quite murky, but as the bloggeurs are saying over here,if SF are to be relegated, it would already have been done,as it was recently for Montauban,Albi,Narbonne,Toulon(not so long ago remember) or Mont de Marsan.

Well I wouldn't leave for the sake of your current job unless the new job answers your concerns or what's important for you at the moment.
1. less then 24km commute
2. Ergonomics are better in relation to your work station.
3. Hours & Work days are similar (bare in mind the time you need to leave for work currently and time you get home. if the new job fits within this time frame then its not bad)
4. is it a full time contract.
5. is the new job paying the same money (it may not be fully but again calculate the cost of your current commute and whether you save money by changing job and therefore your net money is still similar)
6. Is the new job a better step towards what you want.

They're just jealous cause Lukey has the best looking backside in rugby. Fact.
Staggy - well, it sounds like you're satisfied to stay there for the time being. Would the new place be worth the upheaval? (Consider what Micky T said....)

Cheers Mick. Its not bad advice. I really need weekends and evenings free due to my uni committments.
Ergonomics are actually pretty good here.
Wages are very poor.
Staff morale/camradary is very poor
I leave my house at 8am and am home usually about 7pm.
I will typically spend about €40 a week in commuting costs.
Any job I take would be merely about money and paying for Uni and allowing me study properly.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Here's an article I wrote; something i do every year. And I have a bit of time on my hands all of a sudden and all!
https://www.606v2.com/t5936-the-ravenhill-review-year-4
Munsty, that's the way it is in Ireland. Our players are never as bad as we say they are and they're never as good as we say they are. How many of the people slagging Fitz off now were saying he'd be a write-in for the Lions in 2009 I wonder?
No middle ground with Irish Rugby fans. The players we have are either useless or brilliant and when the perception is they're useless every little thing will be picked over and thrown at them.

Well then Stag both jobs are merely means to an end so you can be as selfish as you like with it once the jobs are there.
you aren't in your current role from a career point of view so if you can afford to pick and choose, then I suggest you do.
it was different in this role I am in now as they support a lot of studying and learning since I have joined. They have supported financially and other wise 4 college courses that I have done in the last six years. I want to build a career here. (well thought I did)
If your current role is around just giving you some pocket money and not job satisfaction (to a lesser degree) then just move if you can get the chance.

Cari, when they announced the old 606 closure one of the arguments was that the number of regular posters had dropped to x*
*I can't remember if x was 15,000 or 60,000. Or some other number entirely.
It looks like I'm off to Boston on Thursday. Take off, fly, land, drop off data, pick up expensive hard disk we delivered data on last year, take off, fly, land.

Hi Cari.
Im wrecked after yesterday exertions. Overdone it. 4 hour trek. Brain told me to keep cycling and feel the burn. Body just told me to get a large grip this morn. Ah well. Its good pain. I'll build it up a wee bit more gradual.
Stag,
Its a great question. I suppose a good one, would be the knowledge to harness natural, renewable, energy.

Something to do with data security apparently . The NAS drive I'm bringing back weighs 15kg too!. And probably no turnaround time - and seeing as I'm playing a netball tournament on Saturday morning that may not be a bad thing.
I spent a 10 days in Boston in 2006. Lovely town, being at Fenway for baseball game was a great experience. Unfortunately the friend I stayed with then has since gone through a pretty messy divorce and moved back to Christchurch (and while I got on OK with her ex, looking him up would probably kill the friendship).
