The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the Tommy Bowe photo on the bar. That's a banning offence
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Same here, Cari. It stretches credulity to claim he's been picked on form, but I suppose the point is that it's a relatively meaningless match in the grand scheme of things (even if they are awarding caps for it) so they may as well give him a chance. Now if he has a shocker and still gets picked for subsequent games, then that really would be a disgrace.

Lucky - I really hope Gatland wouldn't be that stupid to pick GH even if he has an OK game at the weekend. I think GH would have to play a few more test matches over the summer before even being considered for the RWC.

The cut-backs don't help either. God, bankers waste Trillions and this sheet goes on. Like everything in Life - it needs money invested to have it properly monitored. To pay top quality, vetted, people to do the job. Having said that, my missus wants to give up her low-paid job and do it for nowt. So its not all about money. Just oodles of love, care and attention.
Sorry. Im losing it again.
I just checked Cari pal. Yes. What did I leave behind me this time? I remembered through a haze, you mentioning something?

Evening all,
Just on the subject of care, it makes you wonder what kind of world we are living in.
Calls for the perpetrators to be locked up sounds good. But then when you see how prisoners get treated in comparison to those our "care" homes they have a life of riley.
Changing the subject somewhat.
Only just signed up today and started reading this thread at page one.... noticed a bit of talk about PC security issues etc. May I recommend this site www.virtualdr.com
I've subscribed (free) to it for nigh on 10 years from when I was in IT, it has a great section on how to avoid the nasties out there, and are brilliant at helping you fix them. http://discussions.virtualdr.com/index.php

I used to love getting letters in the post. Not boring typed letters from the bank or whatever, but hand-written letters from friends or family. I still have some boxes of old letters that my mum and dad and sisters and some school friends wrote to to me when I first went to university. You get so much more from reading an old letter than you do from reading an email or a text. That's one of the bad things about the rise of the internet and instant communication: no one writes letters to each other any more.

Lucky - that's true. I haven't had a letter since I was university in the late 90s. The only things like that I've received in the post is the odd card.

Lucky - I completely agree about the letters!
My friends and I form time to time always make sure we hand write letters to each other (I get ridiculously over excited about getting them through the post) but annoyingly we just never seem to have enough time to do it regularly. Which is daft, we do have the time, we just find the likes of the book of face so much easier, which is a bit of a shame...

That's why I love going to Afghanistan or wherever Lucky. It's a great buzz getting things in the post.
Don't think you'll be able to say that Dreamer, though it would be good to say. A Scarlets backline would be useless under Cement Head though.

Totally agree Lucky. Email is impersonal. It is the care taken to, think about it, sit down and write letters in the 1st place. Cant beat them. Same with birthday emails. Generic. I still write them and all the Christmas cards. Put an update in the cards for people you only see once in while. Its nice.

seriously?!? a man that's diabolical.
The worst thing is that, in a really horrible way, I'm not completely surprised things like this are missed (and I know that sounds dreadful). I hear of things being missed where I work, and I'm just thankfull nothing bad has happened so far. The thing is though, there's just not the staff in place for a lot of these places to be run properly. Gibbo was right earlier when he said it mainly comes down to money, tis such a shame

Cement Head is Warren Gatland. It's what us Dragons supporters "affectionately" call him because of how stubborn he is.
Unfortunately it will probably backfire after Saturday when other supporters blame Brew etc should we slip up. People are already at it with Last Chance Saloon etc.

Swanny/Munsty,what do you,or anyone else, reckon to this:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/rugby_union/13613476.stm
seems feasible, but with County out of the League, won't Sharks be the senior partner, and Edgeley would be a better option.

Risca - I'm not sure last chance in relation to Brew is having a go. I think people realise he's talented and got a lot to bring, but they're just looking at it from how the Welsh coaching set up are looking at it, if you follow me. Like they personally might want to give him another chance, but they know Gats and co probably won't. Brew himself is in a tough position on the wing, as he has to rely on his team mates to provide him with good ball. Without it he's not going to be able to prove himself which would be a shame.

The flip side of that is that if we win and play some good rugby, it will, of course, be because Gavin Henson's in the side - even if it's other players who were instrumental in the win.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
It's probably to do with his head shape too. My friends and I call my bro Warren Gatland.
I think Brew gets a lot of stick. People say he has been given a chance on the basis of the Fiji debacle, but we could have had any decent winger on the wing that day and the way they played nobody would have stood out. You can't give somebody one game to prove themselves, particularly in meaningless friendlies.
Dreamer, people might mean it like that, but then Tom James got brought back in pretty quickly. A number of caps with dire performances hasn't done Bennett any harm either.

I may be in that group.. looking at it the same way as Gats and co!!!
I posted on another thread tho' that I don't think it's fair to judge the whole team on the baa baas game. They won't be playing against an established side so I don't see how they will be able to be judged on how they could perform against one. Depending on individual performance (i.e. fitness, ball handling errors etc) give the same group a run out against the Argies for example?

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Like say Jonathan Davies plays really well on Saturday. It might be less because he's got Henson in midfield with him and more because he doesn't have Jamie Roberts in midfield with him (and the limited tactics we use when Roberts is there.) It's not Jamie Roberts's fault, but it's like when Peter Crouch plays for England: he's really good with the ball at his feet, but because he's tall they just lump the ball up to him and expect him to win it in the air.
