The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the Tommy Bowe photo on the bar. That's a banning offence
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Did anyone see Piutau escaped a ban for the punches he threw on the weekend? "Exceptional circumstances". I just can't quite believe it.

Kiwi,
I think 6 weeks is right for Rhodes as what he did was shocking but in this instance they have condoned retaliation.

"Sorry, you can only contribute to 606 during opening hours. These are 0900-2300 UK time, seven days a week, but may vary to accommodate sporting events and UK public holidays"
Old 606 is closed to new postings. So the "anaesthetic" part of the lethal injection cocktail has been administered.
Munsty, I agree, 2-4 weeks for retaliation would have been in order.
The IRB needs to do something about citing processes globally.

Citing, Residency and the Scrum are currently the 3 biggest problems rugby faces. If we got these sewn up rugby would have fewer problems (though inevitably new ones would raise their head).
We have deal with aerial ping pong pretty well.

Exactly Scotland. Things aren't really that bad for rugby. I can't think of many more major problems we are facing. There are inconveniences but nothing major.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
An interesting opinion piece by Taine Randell on training demands. I don't always agree with Taine, but this one makes some good points. The reference to being flogged in training at Sarries ,akes me wonder if they've changed anything too.

Hi Moderators will you do me a favour. theres an article I wrote just now about best world cup matches. Can you change "games" to "matches" in the title as I can't access the article now at work as it has games in the title.

Yes it did. To me it wasn't a big deal - it was a once off but yes it made rugby look very bad

I didnae want to be the one to say it.....
I mean noone tries harder than Nikki Walker but he just does not have the creativity inside him for Scotland he does at the O's. Which makes me slightly nervous about Big Vis for Scotland.
Edinburgh for all their other shortcomings have some very creative men in the middle that give Visser the space he needs. Walker is much of the same

But the Edinburgh centres are all Scottish. Why don't they pick them internationally?

I still think Visser will still do well for scotland as he is a more rounded player than Walker, who still has some bad defensive flaws. Also Ansboro can be quite creative given quick enough ball, so those two coulod be quite a good parteneship in years to come.

Creative at that level Stag. Different game altogether at Test level.
Kiwi,
From what I've seen, it should be Cecil Afrika.

Here's an interesting one. Are there any hobby horses you have that you believe in but others don't accept so readily. For example Portnoy has his issue with the playoffs, Notch has the Paddy Wallace thing etc?
My own is that test rugby is over rated outside of the World Cup and the 6 Nations is a poor tournament in contrast to other ones.

Dunno Mate,
I have always said I would like to see if Cairns and NDL could bring their Edinburgh Partnership to Scotland but they are rarely given a chance at international level. Throw into the mix the likes of Jim King and John Houston and we have alternatives to the Morrison and Lamontesque Gym Monkey Crash ball centres. Players qith genuine flair, pace and an eye for the gaps. AR is far to conservative for that though.

The Scotland set up do have some weird fixation with Morrison though, he is a good player but it can't hurt to try someone different there, he can be quite one dimensional.

Lamont was a revelation but is there a fear he might be figured out as this Six Nations he was a surprise package.
Those centres might look good at Edinburgh but I just don't see them as good enough for this level.

You know mine. But for those that don't - the need to rationalise the laws of the game, and HC and Amlin qualification to be tied to ML final placings.

Radge, The Scarlets have played Lamont at centre and he did well. It is not just the step up in quality to international rugby I think that causes the problem but AR and DP.

I'll give you DP Glas, but it's always, always going to be harder for a centre fond of the crash-ball to batter his way through at test level. Defences are simply better organised and space is at a premium.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
That's my point though Notch, Llanelli used him as a 13 hitting the line at pace. He actually passed the ball to the full back or wings and ran good support lines to get it back. They did not use him as a crash ball 12 as Scotland did.
