The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the Tommy Bowe photo on the bar. That's a banning offence
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Just joshing - congratulations to your dad!
Yeah, fair play to him! What award did he get? Didn't Scotty's dad get an OBE or an MBE or something?

He got an OBE. I was so proud to be there. My sister and I were on the front row.

The Queen is a puppet. I don't mean politically. I mean really. Like Gollum or Yoda. Frank Oz controlls her using an elaborate invisible string system embedded in her hat. Its the real reason for British satellites!! Its why she lives so long
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Sorry to interupt the thought provoking topic of galvanised rubber effigies of the monarch but could I just take a quick straw poll.
Is everyone happy with the layout of the rugby forum?
Personally, I think it works a lot better than it used to with just the two subsections.
Could I ask you all to post any articles in the right sections and for the mods to tidy up any misplaced threads. Cheers.

Yea I agree with Hugh to some extent. I an easy to navigate button to get to my last comment and the most recent comment on it. I won't complaint if I don't get it though

Portal - shows you the last five posts made across the forum as well as who is on line and this weeks interesting poll. Also has links to affiliates and twitter accounts
Latest news - we have RSS feeds with the latest headlines - will link you to the article at the bbc
my posts - is this what you are looking for?

when you come back on, if you click on the little symbol next to the last posters name (it looks like a little white box with the bottom right corner has a dark arrow in it), it will take you to the last post you viewed.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
There is a view my posts option lads.
Hobo, good work on the topic reminder thing. By the way!
To be honest, and this is just me, but I don’t really see any need for subsections at all. Unless there was one section for International and a separate one for club but when you click “rugby union” you could see them both combined. I find myself checking in 3 places for new articles.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Hobo can you explain how the litte icons work. Orange box next to poster name, white box next to poster name, orange box next to article but white box next to latest post???
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
No!
What it might be is where there is more than one article unread in a section.
sO for example, the you are looking at the main rugby board. the club section is highlighted in red (ie the round circle on the left of the screen) but the last post on Scarlets is in white (as you have read it). However, if you were to click into the club section, the article underneath (on Ulster for example) might not have been read.
Thats the only explanation I can come up with!

Agreed, Mickado. On the old 606 I would just look at the main rugby board for new articles.

No what I mean is that when you click into main rugby section.
There will be icons you descibe to the right of the latest poster.
BUT there are icons to the left of the article: Blue circle, Orange Square and White Square. Sometimes the article will have a orange square but I will have read all the posts and the latest poster square will be white.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Not sure Stag! I think what I was trying to describe is the answer but hopefully its not much of an issue either way.
I will set up a poll early next week (after the influx etc has died down) on whether to get rid of the subsections all together. the danger however, is that topics will get lost very fast.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Right folks, I’ve a dilemma.
My friend just got back from Aus after a year. She happens to be my ex too. I’ve not seen her since she got back last week and I said we should meet for a pint. My GF is ok with it, but I can tell she’s not 100%, there’s nothing for her to worry about though. So she said she doesn’t mind if I go for a pint as long as I’m not out all night and we don’t end up drunkenly going back to my place after (which would happen with my male friends). So agreed to that to keep her happy, but the goalposts have changed, my mate is now saying she can’t go for a pint but she’ll come around to my place for a cuppa and a chat. Seems all perfectly reasonable but given what my GF said I know feel like I’m doing something wrong.
Yours faithfully,
Confused in Tallafornia.

Mickado, take current GF with you when you are meeting ex GF.
If that doesn't work then let me look after current GF while you are meeting ex GF.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
My current GF can't meet me tonight, which is why I got her blessing to go for a pint in the first place. I'm thinking a neutral venue is a good plan as I don't want to ring my GF while she's in work and make a bug deal of something minor.
And stag, yeah it's the same girl, but that was over a year ago.

Mikado - just lay down the law. Tell your GF "this is what's going to happen - if you don't like it, then tough!" That's what I used to say to my wife... before the divorce... oh - wait...

In that case a neutral venue's definitely best. You can't feel guilty about it then.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Its a storm in a tea cup I reckon. If you go ringing your missus making an issue of it you may create tension where there is none. Meet at a neutral place get a cup of coffee and when she asks you how it went just say that ye weren't in mood for a pint and got a coffee instead.
You've done your missus the courtesy of thinking of her throughout and yet your not walking on eggshells and creating trouble where there is none.

Meet in Bewley's or one of Butlers' coffee shops.Or even Gloria Jeans(they do lovely iced coffees, yes I know I sound like a fruit ) Something you regret is less likely to happen ina coffee shop.

I'm with Lucky on this one Mick. Tell your GF that the ex has proposed something else and see what she says. If you're upfront with her, she can have no complaints, it's the best way mate, anything else is very dangerous.

Pete do you not think that could be stirring trouble. If she's cool for them to have pints together in a pub they can have coffee together in a coffee shop. But don't go over to her apartment or anything.

No mate, I think if the current GF thinks that something is being hidden from her, albeit the meeting is completely innocent, then that is more likely to get her imagination racing and cause issues.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
There's always the option that most men in this situation would take, do nothing. Just go with the flow and hope you don't get in trouble for it!
Glas, it's nothing like that (chances blown etc.) we were split up for over a year before she went away anyway. Suppose it's only a bit weird because they haven't met yet. Once they do i'm sure they'll hit it off and the tension will be gone.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Female point of view - neutral, alcohol-free venue seems like the best option to me, Bikkies. Your lady knows you are meeting with the ex and is OK with it. Your ex can meet for coffee, but not for drinks - she may be trying to avoid the drunken rendezvous scenario as well. Or ... she maybe proposed meeting at yours so she could cast herself upon you in private <yikes>! Coffee shop defo the best option. So, there you have it. No fee, BTW
