I mean him being seen as this ATG is a bit much.
Well Canelo is certainly overrated so he would give him a beat down. GGG is know Roy Jones but he kicks the s..t out of Cotto and Canelo.
Does that clear it up slightly?

Re: Gennady Golovkin, One Of The Best Ever?
Alvarez is an interesting fight. While I can see why people think he can win, I personally cannot see it. GGG does everything Canelo does well, better. The left hook is sharper, the punches are better thought out, the stalking is on another level. They aren't carbon copies by any stretch, but it feels like a Mexican Style Mayweather-Marquez. Two very good proponents of a style, but the fact that the one does everything that much better, means it's a blowout.

Golovkin v Alvarez would be a heck of an action fight but its not going to happen beore 2016. I think Golden Boy will give it the go ahead after Cotto v Alvarez takes place.

I have no qualms with Cotto vs Canelo first.
GGG can fight lee in the meantime, then perhaps a huge showdown for May 16!

The pre-emptive he's not very good so I don't need to give any credit if it does happen tactic, an absolute classic.

I don't see Alvarez actually winning, just reckon anyone who comes at him is gonna have a tough time of it.

Re: Gennady Golovkin, One Of The Best Ever?
Alvarez and golovkin have sparred in the past... A few years ago. Unlike the rhino's and elephants ggg normally decapitates in sparring, Canelo came out with his head still attached to his body.
It was just sparring, so to be treated as such rather than as any pointer, but by the account I read it was fairly competitive and both won the others respect.
Given their respective styles it's hard to envisage it not being a good fight while it lasts.
I'd like to see it happen... If ggg is prepared to wait... as seems likely he'd have to.

If Canelo keeps improving then it could be a good fight. I pick GGG to win by knockout, but it is still a fight I would like to see.
Cotto vs Canelo would be good viewing.
How does everyone see that one playing out?

Why Truss?
Canelo has basically been fighting at middle recently. Surley it would be a better fight with both fully hydrated!

Because if Canelo does have a shred of a chance at beating GGG: a) it's at the lower weight; and b) a win at that weight makes Mayweather's look even better.

Ggg and Canelo enter the ring at more or less the same weight regardless. I guess Alvarez just has more experience at boiling down. Golovkin says he can make junior middle, then hey his choice.
I'd rather see it at middle. Be interesting to see what ring weight Alvarez came in at middle... Whether he's cutting just fat or some muscle to make 154, whether his stamina improves from less draining etc.

I would rather see it at middle because if Canelo pulled off the upset, then fanboys would cry that GGG was drained.
Think Sanchez has been on record recently saying GGG is only willing to go to 154 to fight Floyd.

Dont know why cotto has put this off, as with every passing day it goes more and more in Canelos favour as hes getting closer ti his prime whereas cotto is going away from it.
Can only see canelo winning, think that hes just too strong, cotto may be able to keep him away for a while but Canelo is one of the best body punchers, and i think cotto is prone to body shots. Late Ko for Canelo

Could Floyd out point GGG at 154? Or does he not hit hard enough to discourage GGG?

Re: Gennady Golovkin, One Of The Best Ever?
I've never been as big a fan of cotto as some, but I need to see him again at middle before I'd write him off against Canelo.
He looked really strong and sharp against martinez, but it's heavily caveated by what was in front of him. The geale fight may or may not answer those questions... I'd seen geale as a benchmark of solid contender type material but who knows what the golovkin fight has done to him.

Question of the century that one. If GGG doesn't get troubled in the slightest by a genuine MW in Munroe Jr then I somewhat doubt Floyd would register anything above butterfly kisses on GGG.

Yeah he would be punching above his weight vs GGG. Canelo couldn't beat Floyd but would have a better chance vs GGG. You need power to discourage someone coming forward.

That was a shadow of a shadow of Martinez. Knee surgery after Chavez, Murray and Cotto. Reckon anybody who was able to turn would have given him fits that night. Was a horrible ending to a very good career. Because of that, I hope Cotto gets got

Agree with your assesment of Martinez. The writing was on the wall. He seemed to get worse with every defence. Fair play to Cotto though, he still done a number on him, when many were predicting him to fail (I thought Martinez would ko him)
I liked Martinez when he was at his best. His ko of Williams was sickening. Think that fight put a good few off going up against him. He was a good boxer for sure.

Re: Gennady Golovkin, One Of The Best Ever?
Glad you understand what heavily caveated means lads.
Unlike a lot of others I gave cotto a chance because I thought it was pretty clear martinez was already a shadow of himself. I didn't expect the landslide we saw, but cotto looked sharp to me irrespective. Maybe he couldn't help but look sharp in the circumstances, which is why I need to see him again at middle to make a better assessment.
Why would you blame cotto for taking the fight raf?

I read the Caveat part... just felt the need to make sure I put out just how big a caveat.
Martinez-Cotto was to me, what Starling-Honeyghan is to certain posters - the night the sport of boxing broke my heart irreparably. Reckon Cotto just rubbed me the wrong way the entire build up. He had to be the A-side on EVERYTHING. Financially, fair enough, but even the little stuff, one pound catchweight, who comes out first... he seemed determined to basically annoy Martinez at all possible avenues. To then win doing so grates immeasurably

fair enough raf, i didn't care who won, but if anyone annoyed me its martinez taking a payday.
Porter looked a million dollars against malignaggi and pretty ordinary against brook, i'm just reserving judgement on cotto at middle until i've seen the geale fight.

To be fair to Truss the 80s was a great decade of boxing.
I myself started watching boxing in the 90s, so am likely to watch old fights for nostaliga.

Re: Gennady Golovkin, One Of The Best Ever?
There seems to be a lot of positivity about the Golovkin/Froch fight moving closer. Matchroom have said Golovkins team are ready for it, it sonds like Matchroom want it as well now that Chavez has busted out. If Froch wants it, the fight looks like its there for him. If Froch does decide to fight again things seems to be leaning towards Golovkin.

Froch-Degale won't happen.............Can't see a 38 yr old Froch winning that against a tricky young southpaw with a punch....Especially not after such a long layoff....
Too much to lose........Some people would be saying Degale would have beat him anytime..and Froch's ego couldn't stand that !!
He might fancy a middleweight he won't have to go loooking for though........and a guy that If he lost to wouldn't hurt his legacy...........
GGG v Froch is more likely.......
Reckon the smart money is on Froch retiring..

Why should Froch retire when there are two more huge paydays just saying come and get me. Who the hell would walk away from the kind of money we're talking about no matter how rich they were. He has to cash in. He deserves it.
Plus walking around the rest of his life with a bit of his boxing soul owned by James DeGale?
Nah he has to take that fight win or lose. Losing wouldn't hurt him too much, every great champion continues till they get knocked out or carried out wasn't it Dempsey who said that?
You think Eddy will let Carl walk away with an in-house fight like that? Not a chance, he'll be using all his smarm the next few weeks, quite looking forward to it actually and all the mixed messages- he's a friend and he deserves to do whatever he wants the decision is ultimately up to him but the money is huge who wouldn't who couldn't etc.

Froch doesn't want to lose to another Brit.........
Besides GGG is more money...probably a more winnable fight and Groves v Degale is an ace in Hearn's folder anyway......
Froch beats Degale...........Groves beat him so it's sloppy seconds.........
Degale beats froch...........Maybe he was better all along....

So what if he lost to DeGale? At least , having done the right thing, he'll be able to walk around with his head held high and self-respect in tact.
Always the chance too that he could ruin DeGale and spoil what could have been a good career like he did with Bute, or Tyson did with Biggs.

You're saying so what...But he's got to live with it !! and he's already hugely insecure now...
You are 38 and been out for a pretty long time...........Do you want a slick young southpaw who has a good punch and chin who is a natural 168 pounder........Or do you want a 33 year old middleweight who you won't have to go looking for.....
Loses to GGG it won't hurt as much as losing to a fellow Brit who will forever be saying he was better all along..
Think about it................He doesn't NEED the money !!

Exactly...
Take GGG first, then sign out with DeGale.
Loses to GGG won't have to risk losing to his fellow Brit upstart. But with Froch's ego, he may flip and go for DeGale first.
I mean, hurts him more walking away from DeGale than losing to DeGale imo.
