It's a bit late now to be starting him against the top Pro12 team, but fingers crossed that he will at least hold his own, and that Stevenson doesn't do anything stupid. Or indeed that any of them don't do anything stupid.
Still, we have a chance, and I think we will come away with a win, just.
Crazy because he's a bloody good player who hasn't seen proper game time all season. I hope he is match hardened enough, but i have never seen him let us down. A shame he hasn't been playing more

Re: Pro12 Semi 1 - Glasgow Warriors v Ulster Rugby, 22 May
Lutton is good and I thought he was coming along nicely before the start of this season. And now even though Ross has been Herbst's back-up Lutton jumps ahead after just one appearance from the bench. Lack of foresight Mr Clarke?
Even with so little game time I think Lutton will do a job there. Not so sure against Munster if we get that far.
I think Stevenson to replace Van der Merwe with Henderson in the backrow is a good call. This will be a battle of attrition. Grind the weegie down and let loose the dogs of war. The final 20 minutes will belong to Ulster.

Entered a competition to win tickets, which closed at 4pm today. Have 2 missed calls from a Dublin number at 4 and 6. Gonna be gutted if I have missed out

PPI calls are a curse. I have never received one from Dublin though. If the tickets were still available at 6 I would think they will still be available tomorrow morning. Good luck with them anyway

I was going to suggest that Mr Cake pass those tickets onto someone who's side would be in the final

I think Ashe is looking very good, I would put him ahead of Wilson. However, I think that Gilroy is better than Matawalu on the wing and I definitely think that Paddy Jackson is a better 10 than Russell. Two very good teams though, it is close.

Re: Pro12 Semi 1 - Glasgow Warriors v Ulster Rugby, 22 May
I would put Henderson v Strauss as even, but Gilroy definitely better than Mata on the wing. Anyway, is Matawalu not opposite Bowe? In which case it has to be Bowe, with Gilroy and Seymour pretty even!
Kellock v Tuohy depends on whether we're talking playing ability, or production of a thesis titled:
"A critical evaluation of the psychological and physiological factors influencing the formation and structure of the Ruck, with particular focus on the effect of a non-participating party gesticulating and shouting the phrase 'come on boys'."

Re: Pro12 Semi 1 - Glasgow Warriors v Ulster Rugby, 22 May
Gentleman, I need moral and spiritual guidance.
I am about to go on Feckless rogue's Stag weekend. I have done my homework and located an Oirish bar in Bournemouth which will have the game on BigScreen tv. Now Princess Daughter is accusing me of "hijacking" her intended's stag do. Apparently he and his friends may not want to watch rugby.
Now I am having flashbacks to the last time we tried to bond over sport. I took him and young Pipetto to Vicarage Road for Watford v Ipswich. Feckless Rogue is a Watford fan. 89 minutes gone, 0-0 and Ipswich score. I stand up, punch the air and embark on cries of, "Ya beauty! Gerrinthere. Easseee the Tractor Boys." and so on. Then I remember F R got us seats in the Watford end. He still hasn't seen the funny side of it.
So, the question is... how much should I pay to have him "disappeared" ? Permanently.

Rory agree to a degree. Jackson certainly a steadier 10, but have a feeling Russell can do things Jackson just can't. Same carries for Gilroy, better winger, but Matawalu does things nobody else would even think of (frequently not always good things granted).
Both potentially more likely to make a mistake, but likewise do something that could change the game.

Dissapeared? Why whatever do you mean, us Ulster folk would know nothing about violence we are such a loving bunch here

Thank you Neil. Obviously, Belfast and Glasgow are twinned in their love of the arts and them finer things what culture can bring.

Jackson isn't just steady- on form he's one of the best attacking 10s in the league. It must be an absolute joy to play outside him with his pass selection and execution.

Jimbo,
easy my son. Don't get carried away wi' that youth male bonding thing tonight. Plenty of grannies in Bournemouth tbh
Someone from 'over the water' thinks Henderson is better that Strauss - take it they think it is the similarly named diddy at the MFLs ! Bluto is on the mighty warpath !
GLASGOW WARRIORS -WHATEVER IT TAKES
PS Liked this which was put up on the big screen at the awards dinner over the Ws logo for the leavers - Tom Ryder appreciated it as did Thom Evans
ONCE A WARRIOR , ALWAYS A WARRIOR

Schiz, old bean... if I come home smelling of old lady wee Mrs Pip will have something to say about it.
Someone from Ulster thinks Tommy Bowe is better than Tennessee Tam, maybe once upon a time but not tonight. Our Tam is on fire.
It'll be tricky, but I think we'll do it.
When I phoned the Oirish sports bar the barman was very chatty and "Sure the rugby will be on . No problem at all." When I asked with his accent would he be supporting Ulster.... He went all taciturn and said , "No that's not the match I'll be interested in this weekend."
How to make friends and influence people.

One is going to be recognised as a very good player, one is going to be recognised as world class in the next few years.
I'll let you figure out which one is which.

Re: Pro12 Semi 1 - Glasgow Warriors v Ulster Rugby, 22 May
I'm starting to feel that Al Kellock may not be he right man for the next couple of matches, I know dropping him would be incredibly harsh and unimaginably ruthless however last year against Leinster in the final we were rather underpowered. I think in some games his leadership is enough to overcome his diminishing ability as a player, however against the like of Leinster, Ulster, Munster and the Ospreys we need to have 15 quality players out on the field and unfortunately I'm not sure Al fits the bill anymore. Don't get me wrong I have an enormous amount of respect for the work he has done for Glasgow and I highly doubt there would be a home semi-final tonight in front of 10,000 people without the captain but part of me feels that, especially in the professional game, there is no room for sentimentality and I hope the selection isn't based on that.

Well if we had Van der Merwe fit you'd see how he measures up to two excellent second rows, but instead we have one international and Lewis Stevenson.

Ha, they don't. Hence people have to come through from Edinburgh to do the work for them...

Good idea and I was liking this comparison a lot until you chose Henderson ahead of a Currie Cup winning captain and team talisman.Totalflanker wrote:Not seen a man for man for a while and utterly pointless but.....

When you say definitely Tommy, is that Tommy Seymour, Tommy Bowe or a pun? In which case which Tommy is better because I'd say that on this season's from it is debatable. Although I do accept that, when at their respective best, Tommy Bowe is almost certainly probably perhaps a bit better by a small margin.

Exactly, GC. Henderson at Lock? Absolutely. In fact, I rate him so highly that I have him and young Jonny penciled in for the Lions berths in 2015 and 2019. An era-defining partnership.
Henderson at blindside? I have yet to be convinced.
Strauss at blindside? Makes King Leonidas look like a Tupperware saleswoman.

Crap I just realised that useless t urd Clancy was refereeing. All my confidence has went down the drain. He is bound to whistle us out of the game, I'd rather a Scottish ref... or Patterson

For some reason my ass is squeaking, that means it's squeaky bum time.
I am officially brickin' it.
All the best to our Weegie friends and may the best side win as long as it's Ulster
