I don't really see why the area of the pitch matters. He is however the first goalkeeper in PL history to be sent off in the opposition half, apparently. To be honest, I don't like these kinds of red cards. There's no malice, its a clear accident and it isn't the result of a mistimed lunge either. Its a leg in the air. You only have to see his stare directly at the ball above to know he has that and that only in mind. Yellow card all day long for me, because there isn't control.

Why not? He's up for a corner, outfield players do it all the time.

"Any player who lunges at an opponent in challenging for the ball from the
front, from the side or from behind using one or both legs, with excessive force
and endangering the safety of an opponent is guilty of serious foul play."
Serious foul play is a sending-off offence.
Red card. Easy decision.

Nope, just the ones with excessive force that endanger the safety of an opponent. #lawsofthegame

Inevitable. They overachieved, lost Schneiderlin & Clyne this summer & now have the drag of European football. Doubtful to make top 10, in my opinion.

Do you understand the meaning of excessive?
A tackle that uses more force than is necessary. Not any tackle!

I do thanks Duty, but its rather subjective. I don't think there was any excessive force, merely height. I would expect a referee, and anyone who watches football, to know that wasnt excessive force. Arguably, any tackle can endanger an opponent.

The Martinez book of management; when its good, its REALLY good. When it's bad, it's REALLY bad. He has no idea how to manage outside of their top form.

I saw a short clip on twitter. Now I've seen it on MOTD I can say I've never seen an outfield player be so careless with their foot up like that. Clear stupidity from Adrian.

I think it was a kick, not really a tackle, which qualifies as excessive force.

Its not really a kick though, is it? Its a hanging leg. Watch it again, he's got his foot up to control the ball, so there's no particular force going, as you hang the leg there to do such a thing. I think its a common sense one that the ref is showing he basically has no understanding outside of reading a rulebook.

Yes. I honestly can't recall seeing a player turn and lunge so carelessly in one motion. I know players can go in with studs up or stick a leg out carelessly but I've not seen someone be dangerous in the way Adrian was.
Re: We Go Again! The Premier League thread
Cracking comeback from Stoke, who were unlucky to lose last week. Spurs need to sign a few players, a striker and a central midfielder definitely.
