Summer Transfer Window Thread 15/16
First topic message reminder :
Now the season is over, the rumours begin!
Milner/Ings to Liverpool seems likely.
Benitez to Real Madrid, Bale staying.
Falcao is desperate to move to Chelsea.
Otamendi and Dani Alves to Manchester United.
Raheem Sterling to Arsenal
What else?

German paper suggesting Bayern are ready to offer Muller, Robben and cash for Di Maria.
There surely can't be any way that's true. Even Muller and cash for Di Maria, Man Utd should bite their hands off. If it happens, Louis van Gaal is a genius.
On the other end of the spectrum, Arsenal are being linked to Pedro. I can't believe there's anything to that - it would be a terrible signing. They'd have to pay around £20m, and he'd surely be straight into the team. However, he's no better than any number of other options they have, and it's £20m they can't spend elsewhere. More importantly, given that Ozil, Sanchez, Cazorla and Coquelin (or another DM) would be guaranteed starters, where would that leave Wilshere, Ramsey, Walcott, Welbeck and Oxlade-Chamberlain? Why sign an expensive foreigner in a position where you already have tons of depth, and then damage relationships with 5 young British players?

Tbh, di Maria + cash for Robben at this rate would be a good deal for United. Worst signing in their history, they need to get rid asap.jbeadlesbigrighthand wrote:MIG wrote:Think I've heard the best rumour of the summer so far this morning.

Worst signing in their history? That aint true.
Nolan wont go back to Bolton. Downing to Boro is likely, but Nolan to Bolton is no chance.

Who has performed worse than di Maria, £4£? Veron was Zidane-like by comparison.

Need to give him another season, everyone gets a year to adjust before judgement.
We also need to play him in his best position.
Fee agreed for darmian according to some sources.

Cost significantly less, wages were marginally more. Scored a handful of goals but ultimately, hasn't cost United anywhere near the amount that di Maria has, and has been far less disappointing seeing as he was coming off a serious injury.GSC wrote:Azzy wrote:Who has performed worse than di Maria, £4£? One season, new league in a team that certainly didnt have its rhythm. Also had some personal issues. I also think there was a period at the start of the season where he looked the best player in the league. He just didnt last long in that form.

Muller is the face of Bavaria. He's the local boy who made good. He isn't going anywhere, not least in a Muller + cash deal.
As for Angel, well he was third on the Assist chart last season, despite only starting 20 games, and continuously being played out of position. Even if you argue half of his assists were lucky - the next Utd player on the Assist charts is Falcao at #32, which I think says enough.

He's decent, not top quality. Clubs bigger than WHU would of been interested & he's never looked like dislodging the ageing CB's at Juve either.

I doubt any defenders in the world would be dislodging Chillieni or Bonucci from that back line whilst at 30 and 28 respectively they are hardly ageing, would be a quality signing for West Ham. You don't play in the centre of the Italian defence for a time without being pretty damn good, may not be top drawer but he'd get into the majority of premier league defences.

I'd be happy to get Ogbonna at Utd, so West Ham have certainly pulled another out of the top drawer if that comes off.

Ogbonna has basically been the reserve to the reserve at Juve, behind Barzagli.

That's not actually true though is it Liam, not breaking into the best defence in the world is not a bad thing, being trusted to play in it at all is a very good thing.

Erm........yes it is. Ogbonna has been behind the reserve CB of Barzagli. Fact. You do talk some nonsense to support your ideas HH & yes of course he's been trusted to play in it, they obviously have such trust & belief in him, that they are now selling him to WHU.

Re: Summer Transfer Window Thread 15/16
The problem Ogbonna had was that Juve changed from their usual 3 centre backs to a 4-4-2 diamond, Chilleini also often had been playing as a LB in recent seasons when they reverted to 4 at the back so it had looked like there was an opportunity for him.
By going to a standard defensive formation and Chiellini/Bonucci/Barzagli all being rocks then it made it hard to stake a claim. He still though managed 30 appearances last season.

Would that be why he's played more often than Barzagli in the past two seasons then Liam?

Ogbonna's a good player, but a bit accident prone, not good enough for Juve but that's no disgrace. It's a good signing, Juve have signed Simone Zaza for around 13 million pounds having let him go for half that a couple of years back

barzagli has injury problems & ogbonna only played more games in the latter half of the season, was because they won the title early & rested the usual starters for the champs lge run.
Olly chirping up & agreeing with the usual posters, you don't know anything about ogbonna or quality players, when you think Robbie Brady would be a good signing for Norwich.
At least monty knows what he's talking about, good player, but nothing special.

thought smalling did well the second half of last season, we also have rojo who's looked steady there. certainly wouldnt be falling over myself to get juve's 4th choice. chellini certainly but not ogbonnas of the world. we need to aim high if were going to challenge for the title

Re: Summer Transfer Window Thread 15/16
LiamB you do talk some nonsense, but I do remember watching that Coppa Italia semi final, obviously it didn't sink in at the time, but it was that Ogbonna who was all over the shop that night & that ended like Juve's 40 game home unbeaten run or something. Anyway, don't like to judge a player off one game + he wouldn't off been totally match sharp, given his usual bench role.
Think he's a decent defender, not top notch. Definitely not United quality, however, he's looked like he had good physical attributes, so should suit the PL style, but as that link suggests, he does seem to lack concentration & is error prone, but who isn't. Worth the gamble for WHU, I mean he can't be any worse than Mangala.

Preferred Blind at left back myself Hero, also has the double benefit of him not slowing things down in the centre of midfield, I doubt the Darmian deal is anywhere near completion.

Re: Summer Transfer Window Thread 15/16
Ogbonna, its interesting. He clearly played very well at Torino and caught the eye. He got a move to the best club in Italy. One of the best clubs in Europe. Hes clearly got a lot more to this game than he showed in his bad spells at Juve. There can be myriad reasons for a player not performing to his best at a big club. But this is a damn good deal for us, less than £10m for a 27 year old Italian international. In a time where good centre backs are hard to find, we have Reid and Ogbonna, plus Tomkins and Collins.
The most important thing is to consider the market we now shop in. Ogbonna two seasons ago would have made people laugh. We signed Roger Johnson on a free and had loose links to Jonas Olsson. Times are changing and we're making moves. (EDIT: Probably a bit harsh to lump Olsson in with Johnson!)

Bang on DZ, been impressed with WHU this summer & the progress you've made. You got Ogbonna, Reid, Tomkins & Collins, whereas I'm still coming to terms with the fact we've signed nobody & will have injury prone Steve Taylor, OAP Coloccini, the donkey Mike Williamson & the complete unknown at this level Lascelles, as our backline.

Re: Summer Transfer Window Thread 15/16
I would love to be reserved and contrite, but the club are really impressing me this summer.
Obiang and Payet done (and Randolph).
Ogbonna seems very likely (although there is still the possibility we go for Dragovic or Abdennour), Song will sign when hes fit, Jenks looks close for another loan. Manuel Lanzini seems to be our annual South American gamble, but he came from a batch that had him besides Iturbe and another as the next big things of Argie football.
Then it comes down to whether we push the boat out for Cabaye and Remy. L'Equipe seems to think Cabaye wants to sign for us over Palace, but Palace seem to have agreed terms with PSG.
On top of that we've had Reid tied down for 6 years, Cresswell a possible 7. Young players are coming through again and the club has a positive feel with Europe and Bilic.

Yup. The last three years West Ham have only bought players linked to West Brom first, which stems back to when they wanted to buy Graham Dorrans for £2.5m, then bid £3m, then came in for £2m once they'd spent the entire summer unsettling him. We kept Dorrans, but ever since the Hammers have been signing all our targets. Except for Victor Anichebe, they're not that daft.Hammersmith harrier wrote:I think somebody is a bit jealous that West Ham are buying players that West Brom could only dream of buying nor do you seem capable of understanding levels. Now, they're buying players I dream of having at our club. It's demoralising, depressing, and for someone like Liam, clearly antagonising. Ogbonna is a better defender than anyone at Albion currently, or in the past 40 years.
