Can't stand these commentators for Murray match on Eurosport. Just fawning over Murray on every shot like his arm is like a magic wand, unrivalled mental strength!!
Would you give me a break!! Don't get me wrong Murray is a super player but you would swear he is the greatest player of all time they are talking about!
Pathetic how over the top it is

I tend to agree.Jahu wrote:Stan will fold to Fed quickly. Will not be a great match.
It's like some top players give him really big arithmetic questions to answer while Roger poses quite small integration by parts* or implicit differentiation* challenges.

bb, agree, unless Fed turns with a bad mood and just freezes.
otherwise Stan is getting turned on more for fight by Nadal and Djoko matches, same when Fed fires up for Djoko matches.

No doubt Chardy has weapons. Andy needs to keep pressing, keep him on the run, and the errors should come. Have to feel that Andy will, ultimately, have too much, but it's more precariously poised than I was expecting.

Great game from Andy to break. Clung on unbelievably in one point. Serving for set now.

Stan can really lose matches, Feds doesn't on the whole.
I really hope stan plays his best and doesn't fall meekly as he did in Rome.

Wow! Incredible BHDTL from Chardy, but Andy somehow spoons it back and Chardy misses the drive volley.

Andy dodges a bullet on break point. Delicate half-volley drop shot wards it off. First break point he's saved the whole match.

Re: French Open 2015 - Day 9
I would say now I'd be less hopeful of Andy winning against Ferrer than I was prior to that potential match-up earlier in this tournament. Andy's serve has fluctuated a bit too much in the tournament and has dropped sets where I may not have expected him to. Anyway Andy still has a job to do to get to the quarters.

Chardy too gentlemanly there. Could have clobbered it at the body from close range, but guides it on to Murray's racquet instead. He could do with some coaching from Lendl....

Murray never crushes Ferrer. I would be surprised if Murray won 2bh. He has improved but Ferrer moves better than Murray on clay imo.

If he is passive like he has been for lengthy spells today then Ferrer will grind him down. Got to be impressed as well by Ferrer hammering Cilic in straight sets so he is obviously in better nick than I was giving him credit for.

Andy saving energy for the next match, he knows he can beat Chardy half a sleep, and give some hope to the french crowd for their guy.

Murray's clay game does show signs of receding from its high water mark.
Still a good favourite for the match against Ferrer though. Might be a battle but taking three sets off Andy will be tough for Ferrer.

True. He'll pose a threat.Haddie-nuff wrote:Albeit Andy leads the h 2 h he has never yet beaten Ferrer on clay
But Andy has the better weapons and if it comes down to a scrambling contest, I think Andy will have the edge there too.
I wouldn't see a Ferrer win as an enormous upset but it's 65/35 in favour of Andy in my mind.

I'm surprised so many are confident Murray will beat Ferrer. As Haddie says he's never beaten Ferrer on the dirt in their 4 matches there.

Well I'd agree but it depends on what Andy steps on court as in the gameplan he deploys and shots he plays. He has been too passive for long spells and unless he is more aggressive against Ferrer then Ferrer will win for me.

Re: French Open 2015 - Day 9
I think its debateable HM
This is the BO 5 and Ferrer can scamper until the cows come home. Andy will have job to tire him. He needs an early lead on David.
For me lets put it this way it should be a close match

Murray wins in four sets and moves through to the QF's where he will play David Ferrer. Time to go up a couple of gears I reckon.

I wouldn't be surprised if it went to 5 but if the 28 year old Andy Murray, in the best clay form of his life, can't beat 33 year old David Ferrer in Bo5, then he has to ask himself some serious questions.Haddie-nuff wrote:I think its debateable HM

Re: French Open 2015 - Day 9
I think that is a little harsh HM , you have Andy who is not a natural born clay play, playing a man that has been born to the dirt, with more experience of winning on that surface. And not giving credit to the older man.
If you rate Federer on this surface, and not Ferrer because of age not sure of that argument

And as much as we talk about Ferrer winning on this surface, what has he really won? Nothing at 1000 level or above.
His airmiles ensure he keeps the clay titles ticking over but he's not top level on the surface.
We can't on the one hand group Andy in a notional "Big 4" and then start sweating over him facing Ferrer.

Re: French Open 2015 - Day 9
Before his current run Andy had never beaten a top 8 player on clay. Granted, a good number of those top 8 defeats were to Rafa and Nole, but it was a horrible record all the same. He seems to have got that clay inferiority complex off his back now. Combine that with the fact that Daveed is not quite the same player he once was and I don't think the history on clay is all that significant, although it will give Daveed a bit of a mental boost. I do feel optimistic about Andy's chances, but wouldn't be at all surprised if he lost either.LuvSports! wrote:I'm surprised so many are confident Murray will beat Ferrer.
