French Open 2015 - Day 10
Here we go then:
Chatrier (2PM start):

Kei Nishikori (5) vs Jo-Wilfred Tsonga (14)
Lenglen (2PM):
Garbine Muguruza (21) vs Lucie Safarova (13)
Stan Wawrinka (8) vs Roger Federer (2)
...and a host of doubles matches on Court 1/2, including the Bryans and Sock/Pospisil in separate matches. More here. Safarova playing again just a day after beating Sharapova!

I really hped to see both men's matches, so hopefully one women's match will take ages and the other over really quickly.
I think itv4 will opt for feds stan.

Must be for Day 11, right? You should also record Djokovic v Nadal which can be used later analysis.

Re: French Open 2015 - Day 10
Well, we always complain that the ladies singles is predictable and the mens much tougher.
Quarter final line-ups are of the following seeds:
1,2,3,5,6,7,8,14
1,7,13,17,19,21,23 + 1 unseeded
Looks like the strength in depth in the women's game is far better than the men's at the moment, especially as even Serena as #1 has had two big battles in the last two rounds.

Funny, I see it the other way.dummy_half wrote:Looks like the strength in depth in the women's game is far better than the men's at the moment, especially as even Serena as #1 has had two big battles in the last two rounds.
I think the depth in the women's game is pretty shallow.
The top seeds have not generally been knocked out by inspired performances from the lower seeds. It's more common that they produce poor performances and come down to the level of their opponent.
The poor quality of the serving is the big problem on the WTA. Too many players can be simply terrible at it on any given day.

Re: French Open 2015 - Day 10
Since when is the ladies singles predictable - quite the opposite. You have players going from #1 to #50 in a year and then maybe back to #10 the next year. Seeds losing all the time.
Very hard though to judge the question of strength in depth at the bottom vs not so good at the top, but what is clear is that in the women's game the difference between the ranking from top 10 to top 30 is less.

Re: French Open 2015 - Day 10
Short of Serena the womens game has a lot more upsets because their serves are generally very poor. The strength in depth comes form the top ten not being nearly as high in quality as the previous decades

More importantly, lot of wind today, which concerns me a little as these conditions dont pertain that well to attacking tennis, and all 4 are attackers

Re: French Open 2015 - Day 10
Well, Ivanovic has done the business in straights, and Safarova is serving for the match - fantastic effort after playing the last two days. That's a big opportunity for both of them to make the final.
Meanwhile, Tsonga has crafted an early break against Kei, 2-0. You feel he needs a good start. Anyone watching?

Re: French Open 2015 - Day 10
Nishikori really struggling with the wind it looks like, unable to set his feet properly and seems to be mis-hitting a huge amount. Gets one break back, though, and according to the commentators the wind may be easing up slightly...

Tsonga can fancy a title here, I think. He took Federer apart last year. Had match points vs Djokovic the year before. And Nadal hasn't been completely switched on this year. Big chance for Tsonga.

Stan will get beat if he keeps playing these low percent shots. Otherwise, with his head screwed on he should have too much for the man with 4 babies.

what is going on in the nishikori match? Is he playing absolute garbage or is Tsonga playing lights out tennis?

I see a lot of Davydenko in Kei. Very big talent that can rally superbly with a weak serve that gets abused by any quality baseliner.

Yes that is what is so frustrating. Imo his dhbh is the best in the game and he is wilting here.
Btw Davy could serve big! 210kph!

Wawrinka is so unpredictable, such peaks and troughs week in week out. He is bound to have a brain freeze if he gets out in front. He will remember who he is playing and start spraying the ball again. I hope I am wrong but his play is so erratic. When he puts it all together though he is awesome

Poor security and poor renovations, if Paris cannot fix these matters then let another place hold this slam.
