Political round up.............
First topic message reminder :
Turn up for the books.............The hard left guy gets on the ballot for the Labour leadership !!....Managed to bag 35 nominations although some were chucked at him by Burnham who will no doubt pick up many of his second preferences...........
Corbyn has no chance....
However it means one of the other three is likely to get hurt in the first round..........Corbyn no doubt will hoover up the extreme nutty left of which there are no doubt plenty in the Labour party and will probably get enough to take him through the first round !!...
(Cruddas finished top in the 2007 Deputy leader race after the first round (He was the "left" candidate)...Of course Harman and Johnson did better as the rounds progresses with second prefs...)
That means one of the three favorites is likely to be eliminated first..................
Latest odds............
Burnham 10/11
Kendall 5/2
Cooper 3/1
Corbyn 66/1 .................

F**k the members, they account for p!ss all votes compared to the entire national electorate. That's the kind of ignorance that lost Labour 2015.

Numb nut?
I'm not quite sure I agree with that old boy, you've shown a complete lack of basic understanding and the kind of general ignorance that last Labour GE2015.

Just a quick update from inside the Labour party, people who voted for someone other then Jeremy Corbyn have been getting non stop abuse online and sometimes in meetings(myself included). The Tory Party has been contacting some members asking them if they want to jump ship to the Torys

Not chalk and cheese neccessarily though. A pro-market Blairite will have more in common with a middle-ground hunting Tory party that's trying to appeal en masse to the largest sections of the electorate than a Labour party that's wildly swinging left to garner the vocal minority vote.

Its not just the Blairite wing, even people who supported Milliband/Burnham have been approached and I am told are considering it

Re: Political round up.............
Someone mentioned on another thread about policitians wanting to keep their job.
Is it not UNreasonable to think, therefore, that some may prefer to be in a party in Government and potentially in Government again than a party that almost certainly won't be (in its current guise) and is having its principles shifted totally away from when that person actually aligns??
EDIT: meant unreasonable.....

Well i know of 3 locally elected people in my city who have been approached, the problem within the party at the moment is within the party if you dont agree with Corbyn you are called a 'tory' and a 'traitor'. For some the abuse is getting too much. I am one of the people getting daily abuse just because i said that in order to win Labour needs to attract those who voted Tory in 2015 to win.
I will not leave the party but many will

Very smart. Labour needs more of that shrewdness.

If we have another leadership before 2020 and Jarvis stands, i will campaign and vote for him, at Conference the meeting which Jarvis was hosting was packed out. I have a feeling he stayed out of the Corbyn front bench team so that he could build his support within the party and have a clean slate when the time comes for him to stand

Hi Wheels, what's that?
I googled it and couldn't find it.
It has not come into law yet but it will by next year, its where everyone has to register online individually to vote, it was supposed to come in last year but due to criticism it was largely delayed.
It is predicted of it is that unless you register yourself individually online then you won't be able to vote. It is predicted it will wipe about 1 million off the electoral register. Most affected by this will be 18-24 year olds and students as they are very nomadic.
So lots of the people who Corbyn will be banking on voting for him won't be able to vote as they will either forget to register or change address and forget to update the relevent City Council

I imagine someone as canny as Tom Watson will be setting up voter registration schemes.....
Labour's biggest problem is that lazy no good chumps don't vote..
I mean If you can't get them off their butts when their benefits are being threatened then when can you ??
These people get all they ask for.......it's the benefit people that want to work I have time for..Unfortunately they get culled in the same net..

The thing that could hamper the Tory's is the working tax credit cuts they are planning. As it attacks the benefits of people in work. There is a lot of tension in the Tory Party about the policy

Nomadic, yes, but also spending 50-80% of their lives online so registering there shouldn't be an issue. Would have thought it was more likely to hit the non-tech-savvy oldies that are more likely to be Tory voters. You register to vote already, via letter based on your address, so unless there's something I've missed I can't see why this would effect students (unless you can't register in Halls, for example).

Yeh, am not a fan of that (though I think the effect is overblown). Must say, I've not been a fan of a lot of what they're doing since they got a majority, shows that LD's really did achieve something in reigning the worst Tory elements/plans in.
Good chance my vote will swing again, to where I don't know......

They attacked benefits between 2010-2015 and it cost the Lib dems 7/8 of their seats....
Cutting benefits in this parliament may like Wheely says be a whole new ball game..
Depends how many are affected I guess.....
Problem is there isn't any opposition..
