Political round up.............
First topic message reminder :
Turn up for the books.............The hard left guy gets on the ballot for the Labour leadership !!....Managed to bag 35 nominations although some were chucked at him by Burnham who will no doubt pick up many of his second preferences...........
Corbyn has no chance....
However it means one of the other three is likely to get hurt in the first round..........Corbyn no doubt will hoover up the extreme nutty left of which there are no doubt plenty in the Labour party and will probably get enough to take him through the first round !!...
(Cruddas finished top in the 2007 Deputy leader race after the first round (He was the "left" candidate)...Of course Harman and Johnson did better as the rounds progresses with second prefs...)
That means one of the three favorites is likely to be eliminated first..................
Latest odds............
Burnham 10/11
Kendall 5/2
Cooper 3/1
Corbyn 66/1 .................

Good people willing to put time in are surely gold dust...
Next elections I'm going to stay at home or maybe vote Green as a protest...
Probably feel obliged to get my butt down there..
Because I have written several things online which the party do not approve of such as support for Hillary Benn and a general disgust about how long standing labour members like myself are being threatened by new members.
I have since recieved emails from the party saying i need to change my 'tone' as it is against labour values. Failure to do so may result in a removal of party membership.
I will always vote and despite the intimidation and threats i will continue to express what i believe in
Classic politburo-'lite' stuff. People accuse the media of tarring Corbyn and his cronies, but they do it themselves.....
Indeed - I got involved in a "below the line" argument on the guardian website on Saturday (article was about Jarvis - who thankfully now seems to be firing the first shots of his campaign) and the abuse being doled out by Corbynites was something else. All very "student politics" and not a lot of thinking being done!

In fairness i've never known anybody bar perhaps Gary Hart who has taken the crap Corbyn has..
You had a complete idiot resigning on the BBC the other day..
However this government needs opposing with a party with a chance of winning...
Jarvis will get my 'X'..

Re: Political round up.............
Agree that Corbyn has taken a huge amount of kicking from all corners. However, it does seem that his supporters (of which I am one) are increasingly reacting by labelling anyone who disagrees "Blairite" or "red Tory" which is really the opposite of what Corbyn set out to do. Understandable perhaps, given that when he tried to be inclusive he ended up getting stabbed in the back repeatedly by members of his own party, but something we need to shy away from.
I still think Corbyn's election was extremely important, and even necessary, for Labour. They needed to have an in-depth discussion about which direction the Party is going, as it's clear that many members disagreed with the "central" New Labour direction.
It is however extremely unfortunate as really at the moment Labour should be focusing on attacking the Tories with their atrocious Trade Unions bill, the attempts to impose new contracts on Junior Doctors leading to the first NHS strike in forever, their catastrophic handlings of the floods, etc. There's plenty of material there, but they desperately need all wings of the party to rise above this petty in-fighting...

I certainly think Corbyn benefitted from a Lib/Con coalition and an Ed who didn't distance himself too much from New Labour....Benefitted even more from austerity and a heartless bunch of posh boys...Many people I imagine felt no one represented THEM..
But the Tories took a long time to realise to get power you have to reach out to floating voters and I fear Labour will go down the same road.
It pains me to say I can't vote for Labour as is....and it's even more painful because this Country desperately needs a moderate Labour government. .

Has been said in the past that it takes a Conservative government to fix the economy and a Labour government to fix the country.
I think by 2020 that should be a fairly accurate summary of where we are, but at the moment Labour are not a credible alternative.

Re: Political round up.............
Nice turn of phrase, Super, like it.
As an unhappy Tory voted I (somewhat impartially) mainly get infuriated by Corbyn because he makes for a weak opposition - which is a disaster for any democratic nation. Tories are now just running rough-shod doing whatever the hell they like. Much much preferred the Con-Dems, would vote for that again ahead of any other option out there.
That said, the Trade Union Bill is a beaut, probably the only positive thing the Tories have done since I voted for them that I really like and actually accords with my own political views.

Your second sentence illustrates perfectly one of the problems with climate change, which is that it's a very boring subject that no one's particularly interesting, not when a member of JC's shadow cabinet has resigned much more important, then, you know, the future of human life on the planet or something.

It is important, doesn't mean there's not more immediately important issues to deal with.
Climate change isn't something we can just switch off, you can't tackle it without a strong stable economic and political environment (no pun intented). Get those right and then turn to climate change in ernest.
Removal of green subsidies was another thing I don't like which this gov't has done....

we agree on something
Just as annoying was them shooting it through a statutory instrument, so no debate, and no real public awareness. Economically will be very damaging in the medium term too...

I would have installed solar panels, for example, if the subs had still be there. Payback period is just way too long now for most people.
Windfarm investment should be huge too, especially at sea where nimbys/bananas are less of an issue, but we've been feeble.
Sooner re reduce our reliance on the Ruskies and Arabs the better - no good can come of either!

A poll carried aout among Corbyn voters shows....
71% would rather have a pure "unelectable" party with a leader they always agree with...ie Corbyn..
Than have an electable one they don't !..
So that means considering he got 60% on the first round of voting.....
He's got 178,000 out of 422,000 of members sorted before the next leadership contest...
42% in the bag before the race starts if the membership is still the same !!!..
How many moderates have left since Corbyn was elected.??????
Frightening really for anyone who cares about Britain..

I don't know the answer wheels...
Disenfranchised people who were left behind by New Labour seem to have risen up...
Danszuk(Blairite-me-first types) filling the airwaves on one side.....and Abbott, Livingstone and Corbyn types filling the airwaves on the other...
The party is a laughing stock..

I haven't got a problem with people who like Corbyn Pr4wny...I can understand them liking him......He cares he wants to spread the wealth and he seems a genuine man....
The middle whether in the states or back here is where the wars are won........
Find me a party that rewards ambition....is fair on taxes.......and cares about those less well off and I'M IN !!!!
The first two I worry about under Corbyn.............I don't worry about the Trident crap......The USA and Europe aren't going to sit back and let anything happen so close to home as Britain....

Trident is ridiculous. A total waste of money in the modern world.
Corbyn's biggest problem is the way he's represented in the MSM, including the BBC. Even listening to Today in the morning, the difference in tone from the interviewers when you compare his interview with that of George Osborne is disgraceful.

Even more reason why Labour needs a moderate............
6/7 of the media is right wing...
5/7 of the media in the USA is liberal............So the Republicans have the same problem reversed.....
Blair's early years before he became he lost it were ideal..........In fairness I voted for him three times.....Wouldn't have voted for him in 2010 mind couldn't stomach him by then......
Only voted in 2015 to get the Liberal out.............Nauseating no principle b**tards........More time for the Tories..

Is it not a similar level of contribution to when you just threw your toys out the pram and walked away on the other thread? Or am I confusing you with someone else.
In terms of your actual post, I've already covered the reasons for my response - lots of chuff from lefties about unfair portrayal, but then you hear actual stories coming out of the party and they paint the worst picture of all. Look at Wheels' politburo experiences, for example, media hasn't been favourable to JC (but a lot nicer than it has been to Farage) but he, his cronies and their actions make the dots too easy to join.

Agreed, especially regarding the recent story surrounding the Trident subs with no warheads, what on earth is he thinking? I've stood his corner up until now but that's ridiculous.
The thing I object to, though, is that, by all accounts, JC is a nice guy. His voting record is impeccable and nobody can dispute that he wants the best for Britain and that he wants to close the wealth gap. How many other politicians can you honestly say that about? Certainly not Farage. His proposed methods for doing so are what should be debated.
What we get from the MSM, though, are personal, cheap attacks, the likes of which we don't see for others.

Wow. The amount of abuse Farage has copped from the mainstream media in the last few years far outweighs anything that Corbyn has had to put up with, or is ever likely to put up with.
And yes, you can dispute that Corbyn wants the best for Britain. His disgusting comments about the Falkland Islands yesterday are a testament to that.

There's a surprise! Much better to allow him over here and embarrass his lame attempts to defend his policies.TRUSSMAN66 wrote:...MPs voted not to proceed against Trumpy lumpy..........Which would have been interesting had he become President and they had eventually banned him !!...

Re: Political round up.............
The monthly ICM poll for the Guardian is out today and has topline figures of CON 40%, LAB 35%, LDEM 6%, UKIP 10%, GRN 3%. The full details are on ICM’s website here and again come with some pretty candid and downbeat commentary from Martin Boon, who writes that the raw data is still heavily skewed towards Labour and that – to his mind – the existing data correction at the analysis stage isn’t succeeding in correcting it (Martin was also interviewed in Radio 4’s interesting programme this week on why the polls went wrong, as was Joe Tywman of YouGov, Damian Lyons Lowe of Survation, James Morris of GQRR and Pat Sturgis – the Chair of tomorrow’s inquiry into the polling failure).
There were three other GB voting intention polls in the weekend papers. ComRes for the Indy on Sunday had figures of CON 40%, LAB 29%, LDEM 7%, UKIP 16%, GRN 3%, Panelbase in the Sunday Times had toplines of CON 39%, LAB 31%, LDEM 6%, UKIP 14% and Survation in the Mail on Sunday had CON 37%, LAB 30%, LDEM 7%, UKIP 16%, GRN 3%.
Now't to suggest Corbs is anywhere near power. Or that polls aren't still complete horsesh!t (as I said/correctly predicted last time).

Did anybody suggest Corbyn was anywhere near power.....Be a miracle if Labour aren't hammered..
Certainly ICM were way off on GE15..
In fairness though methology has changed since....With less Labour weighting.....As like democrats in the US..Labour supporters are less likely to vote..

How is that UKIP's line?
"Can I make something clear to you? UKIP is not against immigration. We welcome immigration. We want immigration." Nigel Farage
What Theresa May is advocating, cutting the flow of skilled migrants outside the EU, is the complete opposite of what UKIP want.

Unskilled migrants - nay. This country has a surplus of unskilled labour, which has been confirmed by the Bank of England to cause wage compression.
Skilled migrants - yay.
Simples! Or at least it will be once this country chooses to govern itself again, rather than having the European Union do so.
