Political round up.............
First topic message reminder :
Turn up for the books.............The hard left guy gets on the ballot for the Labour leadership !!....Managed to bag 35 nominations although some were chucked at him by Burnham who will no doubt pick up many of his second preferences...........
Corbyn has no chance....
However it means one of the other three is likely to get hurt in the first round..........Corbyn no doubt will hoover up the extreme nutty left of which there are no doubt plenty in the Labour party and will probably get enough to take him through the first round !!...
(Cruddas finished top in the 2007 Deputy leader race after the first round (He was the "left" candidate)...Of course Harman and Johnson did better as the rounds progresses with second prefs...)
That means one of the three favorites is likely to be eliminated first..................
Latest odds............
Burnham 10/11
Kendall 5/2
Cooper 3/1
Corbyn 66/1 .................

Skilled migrants - yay.
Simples! Or at least it will be once this country chooses to govern itself again, rather than having the European Union do so.
1. Depends on your definition of 'skilled'.
2. What about migrants that fall into your definition but have little or no interest in actually working? Perhaps because they can't find employment here.

Have a foreign cleaner here who is working two jobs and doing night school.....
Good look to her.....Long may her type come into the UK...
I have no problem with anyone from a poor background wanting to come here to better themselves.
The only barometer is skilled v unskilled.

1) A skilled migrant would be someone who has a trade/skill that fills a gap for this country's needs. You can add everything else up on the calculator.
2) That would be a very slender minority.

1) Examples?? Some of the biggest complaints re EE/CE immigrants is in the trades, but that's where arguably there have been the biggest skills shortages. So say some trained sparkies or chippies come over - they'll be self employed so no job offer on the table, they may end up never getting any work. But they're allowed in whilst others aren't because they don't have the 'right' skill?

Latest polling is out http://ukpollingreport.co.uk/
CON 40%, LAB 31%, LDEM 7%, UKIP 11%, GRN 4%
More interestingly, more specific questions:
On having the “best policies for the country as a whole” the Conservatives now lead by ten points (compared to a two point Tory lead in 2010 and 2014, and a Labour lead from 1992 to 2005).
On being the most clear and united about its policies the Conservatives lead by twenty points (compared to ten points in 2014, five points in 2010. The last time there was a lead this big was a 31 point lead for Labour in 2001.)
On having the best “team of leaders” the Conservatives lead by twenty-seven points (compared to eleven points in 2014 and five points in 2010 – again you need to go back to Labour in 2001 to find a larger lead)
The only measure where Labour haven’t collapsed is “looking after the interests of people like yourself” – here the Conservatives have a narrow lead of four points, compared to a two point Labour lead in 2014 and a four point Tory lead in 2010.
So people, overall, are fairly balanced as to which party best represents their interests. But the Corbyn mess continues to hamper voter views of Labour, albeit not as badly reflected in voting polls.

TBH I'm amazed that so many people reckon the Conservatives are the party most clear and united about its policies. Surely division over Europe, and uncertainty over how great the tax deal with Google is counts as "not very united"? Though Labour are even less so. of course.
I would have gone with UKIP on that one TBH. Their policies are a bunch of racist nonsense that have no chance of working, but at least their "everything will be great once we stop/curb immigration" line is clear and united

Re: Political round up.............
I've still got my fingers tightly crossed for the day when the Labour and Tory parties die a death.
What policies do the (so-called) Conservatives even have? All I heard from Cameron in the run-up to the election was a bunch of meaningless cliches, with no substance what so ever. Miliband ditto. Cameron has been Prime Minister for nearly six years. What has he achieved?
Team of leaders? Wow, what a choice. Neither Cameron nor Corbyn are leaders. One is an insipid, shallow shell, with no vision and a base ignorance of this nation's history. The other is...well...striving for a philosophy of failure, whilst preaching the gospel of envy.
And 'looking after the interests of people like yourself?' The two main parties simply don't care. They only seek power. And they get this power through incessant media coverage, inordinate amounts of money, and a democracy that largely doesn't care about politics.

1. U-turns are a mis-nomer. Didn't matter a jot in GE2015 and won't in GE2020.
2. Voting polls are still largely bunkum. It's the other stuff that's interesting.
Which is all I'll say on those notes.

Cameron polls highly and carries his party...........The main reason they won 2015...was Ed didn't resonate..
Corbyn is dreadful...
When Cammy goes perhaps Labour have a chance with the smug Osbourne..
Blair exposed Major's u-turns and made his party look a shambles.....
U-turns are important if regularly exposed and hammered home....It's pretty obvious..

Well whoever is the next leader of the Tory party will have a lot to thank him for, since said leader will have the easiest-possible stroll to number ten, followed by a parliamentary majority as big as that which Tony Blair achieved in '97.

I remember that idiotic UKIP candidate who was conspiring with the EDL just before the election. Oh no...that was a Conservative!
Anyway, did anyone see that idiotic UKIP woman on Question Time last night? She said that 400 sexual assaults in Cologne were like a Friday night in Birmingham. Oh no...that was a Labour MP!
And did anyone read about the London mayoral debate last night? That man who proudly proclaimed he wanted to be London's first gay mayor - what party does he represent again? Surely not those UKIP nutters...

True, he won't last any longer than another 18 months (barring a complete party split), but the damage has already been done. It can't be repaired in the short time-frame before the 2020 election that will be available to the new leader.

LD's had a homosexual man campaign for mayor twice (I voted for him the first time) so it's hardly revolutionary - especially since it'll never happen (UKIP mayor, gay mayor more likely).

No, what I meant was there is probably an equal proportion of idiots in all the main parties. The media, however, give a distorted impression that UKIP is full to the brim with these idiots, which is plainly incorrect.

Agreed!
Isolated nitpicking is hardly rebuttal..

Apparently not all UKIP voters are racist and bigoted. Some are also homophobic and misogynistic as well

Oh, give it up. You quoted "...because votes have been more important to them than women's rights."Duty281 wrote:And where do I say Labour are anti-women?

Do I think that Labour are happy to overlook some indiscretions that occur within the confines of a certain culture and community in this country, just so they can maintain part of their voter base? Almost certainly.
Do I think that Labour are anti-women as a whole because of that? Certainly not.

It's a smear but it's also something you already know?
Think you may have the language somewhat confused.

Correct, you're offering a rather bungled and muddled defence of the Labour Party.

Pointless trying to debate you......Think others seem to have given up too..
Worth remembering about the polls..............After the fiasco at 2015 the pollsters have changed their weightings........So If Corbyn is nine points down.......Pre 2015 he'd probably be less....
More emphasis now on those certain to turn up..
