European Tour 2015 - DP World Tour Championship
First topic message reminder :
I thought with no place to discuss European Tour events, and with important upcoming event. I felt it would be a good idea to set up a thread to I am going to try and keep this updated every week with selected tee times.

Good research Inco!
Manassero is ranked 447, I know he has been poor for a while now but I didn't realise how far he had fallen.

Matteo just about to fall further, almost certain to miss another cut. What a shame that he's not training on.
Colsaerts unable to repeat Thursday's fireworks so far - Thursday p.m. / Friday a.m. with a big advantage, apparently.

An afternoon of could've, would've should've from Kaymeer, and overall not a great afternoon for German golfers.
But Karlberg has played well all round the world - is he the next off the Swedish production line?

Yep, it is a decent field and it's a short trip for me so it's well worth it.

Who would you guys see as good outside chances to make the Ryder Cup.
I would go for Wattel, Levy and as a huge outsider Max Kieffer!

Cream rising to the top in Wetlanta, but fell to the bottom in Germany.
Not sure that any European non-Ryder Cup player not called Lowry or Wiesberger has enjoyed a compelling year.
Stal stalled, Kieffer has done well, very consistent but so damn slow and not in contention enough. Would like to add Kjeldsen but think he'd struggle - great year though.
I like Levy but he's been in lousy form.
Only other new team member that I can see, and then only if he gets fit, is Alex Noren, plus any of Fleetwood, Hatton, Pepperell and/or Sullivan that goes on a hot streak.

Totally agree regarding Noren! Yep, Levy has been in lousy form lately quite surprising. His record in the bigger european tour events has been quite poor and I am not even including the majors or WGC'S in this!

Re: European Tour 2015 - DP World Tour Championship
Funny old drop on the 18th but another good win for Thongchai. Interesting here as his Ryder Cup (EDIT: That's not quite right, Presidents Cup is more like it. Thanks to lorus) VC Tony Johnstone has been doing our TV commentary.
Good for Pelle Edberg too; what a different feller he looks from the promising young dude from eight years ago. Remember him playing well in Harrington's Birkdale win wearing a head-version of a snood to keep warm!

Absolutely Kwini. Remember that too, although was it Carnoustie in 2007? It was only 8 years ago but he looks a good 15 years older now. I guess that's the stress of life as a journeyman pro battling to keep your card.

Re: European Tour 2015 - DP World Tour Championship
Although I thought Jaidee was very smart the way he played 18, it's not right that he should be able to use the hospitality suite as a bail out. Very poor planning from the organisers, effectively constructing a backboard along the fairway that was very much in play.

ray, Couldn't remember which was first! Definitely 2007 though.
Did Thongchai actually hit the hospitality suite? A bogus drop anyway.
Regardless, completely agree with you. What is it with the way courses are set up in Germany? Intrusive grandstands last week too, at the Solheim Cup, but the PGA Tour has a couple of dodgy ones too that have come into play with leaders deliberately hitting long (and safe) to get a drop and take hazards out of play.

Re: European Tour 2015 - DP World Tour Championship
Yes, Thongchai clattered his approach into the hospitality suite. Unlike a grandstand, it was a two storey wall of glass down the left side of the fairway, so the ball was guaranteed to rebound into the fairway or fringe. He didn't need a drop (edit: although he had one - not sure what it was for).
From the camera angle behind his second shot, you could clearly see he was deliberately aiming at the hospitality, and it looked like he kept the ball flight low to ensure he struck it. He took the water on the right side out of play, and kept himself below the hole with a relatively straight forward up and down. Smart play and I'm not criticising him, but poor from the organisers.
In contrast, Storm hit his approach to 18 long into the grandstand but he had a tough up and down from the drop zone which was in the rough.

ray,
Yup, but he DID take a drop due to his ball having settled in an area deemed, but not marked, ground under repair; reportedly in a seam of newly laid turf. To the consternation of our GC commentators.

Interesting to see Sky Sports will start their coverage of the Open next year and not in 2017!
BBC will only have highlights from now on.

Absolute train wreck of a finish from Howeller, last time I looked he was 4 under through 12 and then he drops 7 shots in the last 5 holes...wtf?? At TOC as well, hope he's not injured again.
Cracking score at KB from Jimmy Mullen (the gangly kid from RND that had such a good Walker Cup).

Re: European Tour 2015 - DP World Tour Championship
Decent round today from Nick Douherty.
I always liked him as a player as he seemed to genuinely enjoy playing and I've enjoyed his presenting and commentating on Sky but at 33 is it still possible he could get back into playing for a living?
Exemptions are practically non existent (I'm guessing he gets into this as a past winner) and he's done very little on his rare Europro/Challenge tour appearances but would be a great story if he could make his way back from golf oblivion.
His wife is a significantly better presenter than the current "token?" lady as well so would be nice to see her again too.

Nick Dougherty makes the cut! Good for him; always wondered if his mother's sudden death might have had something to do with his decline.

Re: European Tour 2015 - DP World Tour Championship
Thor (the god) and Bjørn (bear) are common names in Scandinavia, so is Thorbjørn. Thor is not an exact translation of thunder, neither in Danish , Swedish or Norwegian (but maybe in old norse), so Thorbjørn is not as stupid as it sounds. I'm sure we can find a lot of common names with a ridicolous meaning in old norse/English/latin/greek. Let's just hope Olesen doesn't start calling his driver 'Mjölnir'...

According to the secret pro it has been five weeks since any payment has been made to players, a process that would normally take a few day, or at most a week. Is being behind on payments to players a first sign that the European tour is heading for serious financial trouble?

Secret Tour Pro does not have much credibility. He is the one that insisted that Alison Lee had been warned a couple time by Pettersen to not pick up putts in the Solheim Cup.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/golf/rory-mcilroy/11912062/Rory-McIlroy-I-thought-about-quitting-European-Tour.html
“Paul has a young family, his life is in America, in Arizona, and I would have no problem at all with whatever decision he makes,” McIlroy said, “It would obviously make our Ryder Cup weaker, especially when he’s in this sort of form. But if Paul says the Ryder Cup doesn't mean as much to him as his family, then more clout to him. It’s a dilemma a lot of the guys are dealing with. A few years down the line, if I had a family in the States, I’d have to strongly consider it, too. To be honest, there have been times when I have contemplated not playing on the European Tour, already.”
McIlroy has remained committed but Casey has forecast “all hell breaking loose” if he ever did hand in his card. There simply could not be a Ryder Cup without him and in that regard he is one the main power-brokers in this burgeoning struggle. “I do know that if I said, ‘look I don’t want to play the European Tour, or at least not be a member any more’, then the Ryder Cup rules would change,” McIlroy said. “I understand that and it might help out a few of the other guys over there. But I don’t want to put the European Tour in that sort of position, because I owe a great deal to them. They gave me playing opportunities at the start of my career and I wouldn't be where I am without them.”
