Comical defending still. Just let him walk past guys and leave the guy on his own in the 6 yard box.

Bad result to say the least for Ipswich.
Early days yet, still fancy them to be up around the play offs.
Am sure they will pick themselves up.

In fairness, I think O'Grady is crap also, but an excellent target man display today. Did more in 90 minutes in that role than Blackstock has all year

He will score goals at this level and is a good target man. I always liked him, under Hypia we could of had Messi upfront and he wouldn't of scored, Hughton has just brought in better strikers so chances are limited, forest are short on strikers so it does make sense. I want him to do well.

Under an embargo we weren't getting better, not sure he'll score many but he can do a job as a target man I guess.

Re: 2015-16 Championship Thread
It's the exact reason why it's so frustrating; I can understand the temptation to play with 1 against the top teams away from home (though even then it's something I'd rather us not) but at home against the ill of MK Dons and Bristol City of the worlds there is nothing to excuse it!
Re: 2015-16 Championship Thread
Cheer up! Maybe Karanka will learn from this...at least I flippin' well hope so.
First half was an exercise in frustration but a nice individual goal from Downing and some good play to set up "Ted" Nugent for the second.
We have the talent...it just needs to be used properly and quite obviously we are too easy to predict and close down with only 1 man up front. Fortunately it hasn't cost us too dearly yet, but we are going to have to start getting at teams early on in games and can't always rely on late second-half pushes.

3 wins on the bounce 8 goals for 1 against, good win against Brentford, Nugent tireless performance, brace for Stuani, Adomah comes on tortures the Brentford defence with an assist and a quality goal, runs and hugs Karanka, all's well at the Boro.

Totally agree, we have a big squad with plenty of quality players, no excuses the chairman Sir Steve Gibson has backed the manager 100% in the transfer market.NickisBHAFC wrote:Tbf Boro should be winning this league. Them and Derby should be absolutely disgusted if they don't get promotion.

Well, its always good when you're winning. Agree though we're making a very handy start to the season and it looks like the team is really starting to gel. 20,000 attendance for the Brentford game...pretty good for a midweek match. Looks like the fans are starting to believe too.
Just don't forget to brace yourself for the traditional Christmas / New year slump...

We would be if your lot weren't being so jammy right now.
Seriously though, your lads are going great - best of luck to them. For all our quality, Boro still have problems, so I don't expect us to barnstorm the league. We never do things the easy way and if we do win the league, they will make us suffer along the way.

Re: 2015-16 Championship Thread
Best we've done in recent times is get a couple of draws. Probably the best we can hope for this time around too.
According to the Middlesbrough Mad stats site, our record at Forest is:
Played: 38
Won: 6
Drawn: 13
Lost: 19
We've scored a total of 45 goals in those fixtures, while Forest have 65.
Last recorded away win was in 1998-99 season (1-2). Surely that can't be right?

I dunno. This season we're pretty solid at the back, but fairly limited in attack. Usually its route one to McGrady or Blackstock now Antonios gone.

Good game that. Boro edged the first half and deserved the lead.

Sheff Wed and Forest 2 away jinx sides for us and we've taken 6 points.
Good battling performance from us Dimi and Ayala outstanding, midfield and attack got stuck in, job done.

Re: 2015-16 Championship Thread
Yep. Think Forest can count themselves unlucky to not get at least a point.
That said, fantastic defensive performance by Boro second half...in the "last ditch, riding our luck" sense. MOTM performance by Dimi to keep our lead intact...especially with that penalty save! Wasn't the best pen, granted and I think Ayala had a word in his ear before hand, but still did the job required of him.
Some nice attacking moves in the first half and well taken goals by Nugent and Ayala. Second half pretty much belonged to Forest and I watched most of it through my fingers.
If the first 8 games are any indication of how our season is going to go, I think we've got plenty to look forward to.
