Right - on this thread I'll predict Curran Minor and Solanki to miss out.

To hedge my bets I'll predict the Viscount and Sibley to miss out.

Re: Surrey vs Kent - County championship
Cheers, JimBob. Beware of imitations, eh?!
Looks like two shoot outs for the final XI. One between the Viscount and Kid Curran. Reckon the Viscount will win that. A very inexperienced seam attack if he doesn't.
The other most likely between Solanki and Sibley. Just maybe Solanki to edge it. His recent second XI form is probably better (a big ton against Glamorgan). A further alternative would be to leave out the Baron although that would be harsh after his centuries at Guildford.
PS JimBob / Olly - can you ask a mod to merge the threads, cheers.

Ok, a quick quiz question whilst the rain still comes down.
Which former Test and Middlesex player celebrates his 62nd birthday today?

Corporal - yes, the man you are trying to get would certainly have played alongside Emburey and Edmonds (Downton might have been a bit young) for Middlesex although never England ....

Cheers, Jimbo. I didn't think the seconds would be playing. Obviously better weather in your neck of the woods.
Burger Van has recently served up some tasty offerings (ok, Corporal? ) but it's hard to see him getting a gig (young person's term - ok, Olly? ) with Batty and Ansari ahead of him.

True in general, Guildford, though I imagine Surrey will be keen to give him a spin in any *dead* matches.

Re: Surrey vs Kent - County championship
Jimbo - don't know if you noticed but former Hants seamer Balcombe isn't playing in this seconds game. He's not in the first team squad for the Kent game either. There have been strong suggestions that he has some personal issues. I don't know anything more other than when he has played for the seconds he's often only bowled a small number of overs and conceded a lot of wides and no balls. Concerning.

Guildford struggling here -without using Google other than to check DOB of names I've thought of. Same era as Roland Butcher... Did player represent Windies?

Haha right on Guildford - your young persons vernacular is on point.
In other news will we see any play today more near London weather reporters

Thanks, Olly.
Churchy has tweeted that there's an inspection at 2 o'clock. Stopped drizzling here now but grey and miserable. Light / natural light might also be an issue. There's also some breeze - might help the drying out, I suppose, provided the wet stuff stays away.

Wasn't aware of that, Guildford. Quite surprising IMO. He was a popular figure at Hampshire, he's also a much better bowler than 'not making the seconds team' - i recall him being quite expensive with his bowling but someone who would pick up quite a few wickets. I thought it was a strange move at the time, seems that has been the case

Re: Surrey vs Kent - County championship
Jimbo - I very much suspect it's a personal issue of some kind keeping Balcombe out of today's second XI game. We're fielding a very inexperienced side and could have done with him.
Not surprised you mention him being popular at Hants. He attended a Surrey members' forum meeting I went to at Guildford Cricket Club circa January this year and came across well.

Re: Surrey vs Kent - County championship
Given the time lost and current conditions, happy enough we're bowling. Don't want to be worrying about when to declare in second innings (if we're in such a good position!).
Bit surprised by the two to miss out. Very inexperienced seam attack. Thought the Viscount could have done a bit today. Fear we may not see him again.
No problem with Sibley (and Harinath) getting the nod over Solanki but seemed strange to call the veteran up to the squad only to leave him out.
So who opens with TC? Baby bro or Burkey?

It's harsh, but he's been thoroughly out bowled by Curran and Burke in his first class matches this season.
I'd like to have seen him play merely because we now have a seriously inexperienced bowling line up

No Key for Kent. Read somewhere that he's ill. We'll take that as he normally does well against us.

Drinks for Guildford and for Larry Gomes.
That certainly is an inexperienced attack, although Norah and Ansari may well have a fair bit of work to do.
