Yeh its just a way of saying to darmain he won't just walk into the side, to keep him on his toes, and also for valencia to keep his levels up (shouldn't be too difficult).

agree with above, all lvg is saying is that new signing or not you have to earn your place in the team

Exactly. Who do you want us to sign and who do you think realistically we'll get, as well as the De Gea situation? Personally, I see it going:
De Gea out Ramos in
Laccazette
Pedro
Evans out
Wilson on loan if hernandez recovers

Mathieu Flamini is heading to Galatasaray for 4m, Chesney may be loaned to Roma.
If we get a DM in i don't mind but 1 injury to Coquelin and we're back in the sh*t tbh if don't.

I think De Gea will stay, and Ramos not come in.
Otamendi in
Pedro in

Re: Summer Transfer Window Thread 15/16
Yeah, doesn't make sense to say Wayne will be the main striker & then try & fool us into thinking some big signing will be happy to come along & play second fiddle. Otamendi or Ramos & that will be United done & dusted, too many new signings & things might become difficult to all tie together.
Lambert had good discussions with WBA, I'd imagine he'll sign, given the other options available.

Re: Summer Transfer Window Thread 15/16
Personally, from what i've been reading and what my gut feeling tells me, is that we ill sign ramos and open negotiations with real for de gea which will see him go the other way. I think pedro will sign and we'll have rooney leading the line with wilson/hernandez/depay/pedro filling in when/if rooney isn't fit. Although i wouldn't completely rule out a striker coming in but imo it's highly unlikely.

Would like to see Cambiasso stay in the prem. Still a quality player as shown last season. Guessing he'll probably head home to Argentina but would be a good signing for Villa off the top of my head.

If you suddenly get linked with a Mattias Jarvissimo to go with that Diego Nolan then I think Davey Sullivan might be trying to sell off some dodgy goods

I do dislike Chelsea's very public pursuit of Stones, a lot of teams are guilty of it and it's something that needs to change especially players like Cahill butting in for no reason, they should show more respect to Everton.

Benteke would've been perfect for United's style - he doesn't fit Liverpool at all.
But away from the style he just isn't good enough to play for a top 6 club imo. Mid table striker at best

Benteke is more than good enough. But he's a poorer mans Drogba. His strength is getting it into him aerially and Liverpool dont do that. Same reason Carroll never even got a look in.

If Sturridge (Big IF admittedly) is actually fit for once i don't see Benteke actually making the side...despite his 140k a week wage packet

News breaking in France and in most british papers that di maria is off to psg for around 50m. Real shame. We saw glimpses but he got injured, lost form and confidence. He's not really Van Gaals type of player but he's made up his mind and I never truly felt he wanted to be at utd. If we get Pedro i'll be happy because he's a very good player imo and brings goals, versatility and an incredible team ethic, something that van gaal clearly looks for. I admire that, and it brings a good balance to the side whilst also providing the necessary firepower imo. Although I do feel we still need an out and out striker.

Think we paid way over the odds for a player who (as many have pointed out) doesn't exactly fit the style of play.
Although, I am much happier with Sturridge/Benteke/Ings as our 3 options at striker than I was with Sturridge/Lambert/Ballotelli (and Borini i suppose...).
If we shift Lambert/Ballotelli/Borini we might even be able to recoup about half bentekes fee aswell.

One CM with a dodgy knee out, one CM with a dodgy knee in. Though Vidal is likely a better player these days.

Benteke isn't Carroll. I like Andy but he doesn't run the channels like Benteke or have his pace. He'll work well, he's got both sides to his game and will be a good way for Liverpool to also have a target for crosses.

Sorry olly, but thats rubbish imo.
Good enough easily for top 6.
Bit of an insult to say he is only good enough for mid table.
Good luck to him.
Thanks for the good times Christian.

One injury and Schweinsteiger has a dodgy knee, great logic that, also think Vidal showed last season his knee is no longer hampering him.

Re: Summer Transfer Window Thread 15/16
Newcastle are poised to complete the £8.5million signing of Anderlecht defender Chancel Mbemba – but doubts remain about the player's age.
The Magpies will sign the Congolese international on the understanding he is 20 years old.
However, it has long since been reported that Mbemba has four birthdays – ranging from 1988 to 1995.
Apparently he is either 20,22,23 or 27

He's 20 years old & is basically the Congolese Sol Campbell. A much needed defensive acquisition.

Liverpool have to be realistic with their signings though - there arent that many top-level strikers available and any that do they have to compete with Man U and Arsenal.
Probably better off overpaying for someone like Benteke now who will have time to bed into the squad that to panic buy someone on deadline day

In the same vein there's no point buying someone for the sake of buying someone. Benteke to Liverpool feels like that.

Doesn't really make sense that comment, they are making strides & signing quality players. Wijnaldum is top quality, who's left a champions league club & Mitrovic is highly rated across Europe. Add to Krul, Janmaat, Sissoko, De Jong, Aarons & Cisse, its hardly a poor side, especially with a proper management structure now in place. Not sure where the Ligue 1 comment also comes from, if anything, they have stopped buying from France & have now focused on Holland & Belgium. Can see Newcastle having a good season actually, I just wish WBA has the same ambition to go & spend some cash this summer, instead we end up with Lambert.

It'll be on some kind of pay as you play deal, so no real risk. If he does get fit, then it's a hell of a signing.
Re: Summer Transfer Window Thread 15/16
The point was that they are again going international on unproven players that are commodities.
Evans and Austin would have been smarter ideas.

Re: Summer Transfer Window Thread 15/16
I see the point you're making there Dolph and I do agree to an extent; it seems like a cliché to say but the premier league is physically more demanding than most leagues, we've seen numerous times players from abroad not being able to hack it. Evans will be a very good signing for whoever gets him, not top quality but aside from teams chasing Champions League football you won't get a top quality central defender they are too highly sought after right now.
I fully expect Wijnaldum to be Newcastle's best player next season but Mitrovic has a massive question mark at the moment as do our signings of Darmian and Depay. Look at Fletcher at West Brom, did a better job than any player from abroad would have done of relative ability, premier league experience is very under-rated.
