Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
Smith can take his ridiculous hair and stupidly high wages and leave the club. Was a key part of the lockerroom but offers nothing for us on the pitch anymore. Would rather lose him this summer than have to keep on paying him.
Turan is a name that's popped up for about 2 years now, and haven't heard much on the Brown story. Hopefully lose Smith and probably sell Barton; bring in two other midfield players and a winger to replace hopefully.
Main priority still needs to be strikers.

I've read it a few times, now it's all over the papers up here. Though Celtic are looking to increase his wages past the 30 grand a week mark.

Newcastle are closing in on Switzerland’s Tranquillo Barnetta, who scored twice against England at Wembley this month.
Bayer Leverkusen’s £6million-rated midfielder, 26, opened the door by making it clear he wants to leave the German club.

Possibly. Seems to fit in with where our scouts have been this season. Did SSN run the story through themselves, or 'according to the Daily Mail'?
As long as we don't leave buying players till the last minute then I'll be happy. English = Overpriced usually. We still have Harper, Forster, Simpson, 2 Taylors, Williamson, Gosling, Ferguson and Ameobi. I'd rather take a cheap foreigner than pay too much for an average British player.

As much as I love Harper, I think it may be time for him to let Krul/Forster takeover the reigns. We have two fantastic young keepers and neither would stay to be third choice I don't think, the more often we loan Forster out the more unlikely it is he'll stay.
Ameobi will always be near the team because of th lack of options. Ameobi, Best, Lovenkrands and Ranger has to be one of the worst striking options in the league.

Reports today that Ba and Taylor to be completed by the end of the week. Along with rumours of Barnetta and Matuidi in some places this morning.
With all the names I'm not sure which ones to believe, but if we brought in Ba, Taylor and Barnetta in the next fortnight and lost Barton and Smith tthen I'd consider it good business.
Barton said on radio he'll only leave for Champions League footy.

Liverpool are hoping to cash in on the turmoil at Newcastle by bidding £22m for left-back Jose Enrique and midfielder Jonas Gutierrez.

Really hope that we wouldn't sell anyone else to Liverpool, except Barton. Jose, if signed to a longer deal, could fetch that on his own, but with one year left I think we could hopefully get £12m for him, so £10m for Jonas. When I put it like that it seems like a good price, but it would destroy the core of our left hand side and I love both of those players.

Jonas doesn't use the mask because he doesn't score He's one of the most exciting, yet frustrating, players to watch play for us. He always puts in 100% effort and looks as if he would stay at the club even if Jose did leave.
I'd only sell Enrique to a team that played abroad. But I know if someone came in with a good offer we'd obviously accept it. There were rumous that we have been scouting Cheikh M'Bengue as a possible replacement if he does go. Pardew has made it clear that Neil Taylor is NOT a replacement for Enrique.

gotta admit my dislike for ashley is huge and pardew is just another puppet but gettin' rid of nolan was a good move! he was slow, fat and just tapped in the rebounds from carroll all season. we've now got youth, skillful, creative, energetic players (foreign i admit) but if they can build a good team spirit with these french players then we could have a solid season. key is keeping enrique absolutely massive

I think your resentment for Nolan is clouding your judgement, his slow fat tap ins got you up and then kept you up, time will tell if you miss him, I think its a no-brainer you'll miss the midfielder who scored 30 goals in the last 2 seasons

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
But look at his performances without Carroll upfront. He heavily relied on picking up the knock downs from Carroll and the striker we bring in wouldn't give him the same amount of service. If we do misssome of the goals he scored, I'm sure the new midfielders will create a lot more goals than he did for us. I said before that if he didn't grab a goal then his performance was always poor. The leadership on the pitch he gave was good, but I think S.Taylor and Coloccini can lead from the back with this.

How Newcastle will line up against Arsenal on the opening day?
This could well be the Toon line up for the first game at St James' against Arsenal, on what is almost certain to be sunday august 14th
GK Krul
RB Simpson
CB Coloccini
CB Williamson
LB N.Taylor
RM Barnetta
CM Cabaye
CM Tiote
LW Gosling
CF Ameobi
CF Ba
Ben Arfa may not be rushed back, so he may not start.
Steven Taylor is twice the player Williamson is, if only AP thought the same
Barnetta is only linked, just a view to what might be
This is worrying imo, Jose, Gutierrez, Barton, Best, Harper, look likely to leave, why he would sell Gutierrez is beyond me, but this is Mike, Enrique's playing hard ball so nothing they can do there, but Best, Harper are good players to have in the squad, especially when you look at Best' form last year when he started games. I just hope with the players Pardew's selling he doesn't sell good players like Guthrie who is twice the player Brown is who we've been linked with, Ryan Taylor is also useful as a squad player, views?

Bendtner isn't a bad player really, but the problem he has is a massive ego. He talks like he is better than Cruyff, Pele and Maradona put together; it's no surprise people slate him when he sets himself up like that.
He would do a good job for any prem team - Wenger has seen something there, and sometimes he shows what he can do.

If the toon were to get Bendtner as part of the deal I think you'd be quite surprised though - thing he still has it in him despite being disappointing for the gooners so far
.....................................
i'd be absolutely devestated if we bought him Davie, i think he's absolutely awful, Demba Ba's here who has more talent in his arm, then we will be sure to get another striker if he's letting Best, Ranger go. I don't rate that hype job though, he is also arrogant to boot. Shane Long would be decent

Not sure Spurs will let Pavlyuchenko go to be honest Towzer, they will probably ship out Keane and maybe Crouch and then they will be looking to buy a new striker too.

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
Shouldn't this go in our transfer thread?
Only player I'd be devastated about would be Jose. Best is average, Barton can be replaced and we have good enough keepers to replace Harper. Jonas won't go either. Guthrie is alright but nothing special, Raylor is only useful because he can play so many positions and can deliver a set piece.

AP has already said if Enrique does go then N.Taylor will not replace him and he'll sign someone else.

How about
GK - Forster
LB - M'Bangue
CB - Coloccinni
CB - Williamson
RB - S Taylor
DM - Tiote
CM - Gossling
CM - Cabaye
CM - Gutierrez
Free Role - Ben Arfa
CF - Ba
With Vuckic, Ferguson, Airey (and the other youngsters) getting plenty of gametime...and young ginger Richardson continuing to impress in the reserves...

I for one certainly wouldnt want Bendtner coming this way. I think hes another highly overrated player....
Ba is ok better than what we have...though that isnt exactly hard...but i still want a top drawer forward.

Not sure about Cole either...he can be very good...but then pretty average...and i see him as no real improvement to Ameobi...
I think with Ben Arfa, Cabaye and Barnetta (who is expected to sign) we will create alot more chances than last season...so i want a real top class forward who is composed in front of goal.
Who? hhmmm well thats the question isnt it.
On a side note...what to rate of Gossling? How do you think he'll go...Real quality...or another Guthrie..

Name being spread was Erdinc's last week.
Can't really judge Gosling because he's been out injured for so long; hopefully he's recovered well.

Yeah Erdinc...cant say i know much about him but his scoring record isnt huge...by all accounts
I see Best has been told he can leave. Id rather keep him and get rid of the Abomination that is Ameobi...

I'm unsure- happy to see Best go and I think he's a better goalscorer than Ameobi. But Ameobi has put so much in for the club and always looked to give a good effort- plus his penalties

Cole is no improvement on Ameobi - in fact I have my suspicions they are the same player.
He is a good physical presence, Cole, and he scores the odd stunner. Other than that, his finishing is inept.

Leak, any chance this could be renamed to the 'Newcastle United Thread'. Means that all NUFC news goes in rather than just odd stories about the transfers.
I think Pardew said on BBC that there are some issues with the medical, but he didn't fail it. Looks like it's several days away before he signs/doesn't sign.
