I think we might be delaying our bid until late transfer window in the hope you drop the price so you can get some money for him rather than let him go for free next year, but you seem wary of getting a replacement just in case we don't put in a bid.
I love the transfer window always full of twists and turns!

I love transfer deadline day.
The bbc live text is great.
You get people texting in saying who they have just seen at a training ground, even though the same player has been seen 5 mins ago at the other end of the country.

Yeah, the best ones are the 'my friend works for....and he saw <insert player here>'.
Best transfer deadline day was 2008 summer when City suddenly became uber-rich and started hijacking all the deals and nearly got Berbatov and Robinho, it just came out of no where and was like what the hell?!

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
Leak, if Liverpool leave it late I think the club will just keep Enrique and hope they have a good chance of convincing him to sign. Especially if we have a strong season. The only reason Carroll was sold because £30m was an unbelievable price for a player, £6m isn't really that much for a player of Enrique's quality.
Expect us to be linked with every wantaway striker on deadline day

First home game of the season so we should come out strongly to try and lift the mood after a damp (haha, ignore the pun) pre-season.
If I'm not mistaken they won't have Diaby or Walcott either. But they'll still have good players like Nasri, Gervinho, Ramsey, Arshavin and Song in midfield so it'll be tough.
Rumour has it Enrique fee has been agreed with Liverpool. £5.5mill
To be fair that rumour has been running the mill for months. I won't be convinced until either Newcastle or Liverpool confirm it.
Kenny always keeps his cards close to his chest and is respectful of other clubs and there players. We wouldnt know anything untill its been confirmed by LFC or if the player is spotted coming to Melwood for there medical

Translates as no one wanted Joey and he's going to try and grovel to stay at the club

He doesnt have to grovel. He could quite happily see out his contract if he wanted. You'd rather be getting something for the money your paying for his services?

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
I'd prefer him to play, but not if he's going to continue being unprofessional off the pitch. Plus, hes not going to come out looking too good from it as his agent was claiming loads of clubs were looking at Barton, ell a few days later and no one has got involved.

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
True. But it has been reported that he has settled in the North East with only just having his house completely renevated, plus with him just having his first child, moving now would cause unnecessery stress for him and his family. He has came out and said he was happy at Newcastle and doesnt want to leave.

roman pavyucheko to newcastle (wake up)! you seriously think Roman Pavlyuchecko would join us on a measely wage when he could join the oil-rich clubs back in mother russia where yuri zhirkov has just gone and is getting double he got at chelsea. c'mon! u seriously think £10m is gonna be spent on anyone? we're looking at loans or cheapish average players from the dutch league and the rest of europe, we cant compete no more. We need a striker though ASAP!

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
He was just quoting what the Daily Express said.
To be honest, I'm not even sure if Pavlyuchenko is worth £10 million, he hasn't exactly set the Premier League alight.

Pardew spotted at the Ajax game, supposedly looking at Sulejmani again. Would be pleasantly surprised if we could lure him to the Premier League.
John, I'm not sure if it's a case of not being able to compete, it's rather not willing to buy into an inflated market.

Sulejmani would be a good signing, he won the Johan Cryuff award for best youngster in the Dutch league a year or two ago, others to win that: Van Persie, Robben (twice), Van Der Vaart, Affelay, Sneijder, Elia, Erikson.

I'd imagine he'd cost a bomb though, and they don't seem to be in the need to sell players. Didn't they reject a £30m+ bid for Erikson?

Think it was £20mill
I heard you were making a bid for Grant Holt today. Thats seems more realistic

Haven't seen that Holt rumour from any of the usual NUFC sources, may have originated from the Norwich end. Just the same name of M'Bengue is the most recent NUFC transfer target that constantly crops up at the moment.

The source is footybunker? Hardly the most reliable
Edit; Looks like we missed it with Erding, and Long has apparently had a fee agreed with West Brom. If Pardew can get another striker in before the Sunderland game I'll be pleased.

No wonder W Brom have forged ahead its because there offering £7 millions smashing their own transfer record. If the striker is not a free transfer, loan or requires less than 30k a week in wages then Ashley is not interested. Same old story!

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
Poopie, forgot that John knew the workings of Ashley's mind
£7m is quite a lot for an unproven Premier League striker with one year left on his contract. Wouldnn't have minded him at the club, but £7m was always a bit too steep. Partnership of Long and Odenwingie could boost West Brom this season though.

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
I'm not pleased that we didn't sign Long, but I said on the very first page that we should be looking for somebody already established rather than him. I wouldn't say we were outdone, there's a question as to whether we even put in a proper bid or if it was just rumours. It's only being outdone if we both offered equal fee and wages, but by the looks of things, we didn't put in a bid that was that high.
The current state of the team is almost identical to last season, bar a big striker. I've said before that I consider us to have a stronger squad this season, and I'm not prepared to judge the club or board until the end of the window. If we haven't brought in another striker by then, then I'll be upset.

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
I agree Churchill, Long was totally unproven in Prem is not the way forward for that kind of price, we've already bought in Abeid, Marveuax, Cabaye, Obertan all unproven. I'm still worried that by deadline day Enrique would of gone and possibly Coloccini and that the hierachy of NUFC will be runnig round like headless chickens like the January window offering last minute deals in desperation to apease the fans. I know Valencia are sniffing and they offer champions league which is a worry because Williamson is not ideal cover in my opinion (just shows how light we are at CB and LB).
Guest- Guest
Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
Woah, where'd your other post disappear to?
Colo's just been made captain, can't see him being sold. Williamson did a good job ext to Colo for the majority of last season. Cabaye and Tiote were two signings we hadn't heard about before they happened, hopefully there may be one more bein worked on behind closed doors.

Didnt he play in the Prem for Reading when he was younger?
Well seems like you've signed a few unproven players this season so why break the trend?

Fee looks like 6 Million for Long, with some of that coming from add-on's.Personally I feel it's a lot for us to be paying for a striker who has one year left on his contract and only really had one outstanding season in his career.
However a parternship of Long and Odemwingie could be lethal, and also the fact we have Simon Cox means we may end up with Long Cox up front!

Think it's pretty good news for WBA that you've shown you can compete for people in the transfer market though, Long was pretty in demand, he was being linked with Liverpool.

Who would have offered at least £15m
Unnamed striker played in todays reserve game, hopefully will become clearer during the week who it was. Will just be a youth signing though.

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
I maybe looking at things a little pessimistically, but all of these clubs were linked with him like Liverpool,Newcastle,Everton,Wolves but the only clubs to make bids previously were Leicester and West Ham who realistically we should be able to out-bid.
But I'm happy that's he coming, will provide good back-up/partner for Odemwingie.

Trailist confirmed as Mamadou Doucoure. Comes from same club we picked up Abeid from. Good to see the club looking at picking up some younger players as well.

It's been a split between most Man Utd fans I've talked to. Half would have preferred him to stay at the club and just be loaned out, others are glad he's gone because he wouldn't have got a chance at Man U anyway.
Think that playing a season where he'll get regular games could really benefit him, and he gives us some pace outwide so even if he doesn't always have an end product he can hopefully carry the ball.

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
I thought he was appalling. Shocking player to be fair, showed mere glimpses of promise but were massively out weighed by an inability to pass or shoot. I'd much rather have the likes of Welbeck than him.
Best of luck to him though.

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
Basically Pardew's admitted that he bought him primarily for his speed and the fact that away from home we lacked the ability to break with speed and counter attack the opposition. at home games doubt he will get a look in, more of an impact player off the bench when opposition tire. He has promise but lets face it was never given a run of games to show his true ability and gain confidence. Seeing as Man U bought him and believed he had the talent then i'm hoping he can thrive under Pardew and the fact he's surrounded by Ben Arfa and his fellow countrymen will help him settle in immediately. Seeing as he's a replacement for Routledge and really only cost us £1.25m, I think it's a decent deal. Still resigned to losing Enrique to Liverpool and there's still the possibility of Coloccini jumping ship to Valencia and champions league football (regardless of his captaincy) before the deadline. Desperately need a striker of quality from somewhere. Toivonen 75 apps with 34 goals in eredivisie (i'm sorry but that record is appalling for that league. Dirk Kuyt and Afonso Alves had superior records to that and look how they turned out. Anyone heard of any up to date transfer rumours?
Guest- Guest
Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
Toivonen is taller than both those and it's stupid to judge a player's scoring record to other players that moved from the league. He's PSVs main striker so he can't be too bad. Haven't heard him linked though.
Sulejmani and Pieters are the two most recent rumours.

Im sorry but Obertan is a shocking signing. He is simply no better than Lovenkrands...they just have pace.
IF Marveaux, Cabaye, Ben Arfa and Gosling stay injury free and on form..then fine they are good signings...
But we are gonna be back in the championship if we dont get some forwards...baring in mind we sold our only goal scorers....GOALS matter in the Prem!

Falcon, I think if you compare ther two then Obertan could easily outrun Lovenkrands. He's getting on a bit and his pace is going, as is his finishing.
Glad Shola got a new contract, out of the four strikers (Xisco, Lovenkrands and Ranger) he's the one I'd quite like to stay with us. If we could find a new club for Ranger and Xisco by the end of the summer I'd be ecstatic as neither will get much of a look in this season.

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
Sorry for another bump but it's thought Enrique will complete his move to Liverpool before the weekend. By the sounds of it we're getting a Poopie deal for him, but that's because he only has one year left on his contract. Deal trying to be arranged for Pieters and shouldn't be too long after Enrique goes; hopefully before the Arsenal game.
If Pieters/Enrique deals go ahead, that will be our 5th signing of the summer and 3rd departure. You could, cheekily, include Ben Arfa and Gosling as new signings as their games so far has been minimal. Despite all the flack Pardew and the club gets, you can't argue that they haven't look to improve the squad. At the moment it looks like a 'sell before you buy' policy, frustrating - yes, but could help financially.
Only West Brom (6) and Sunderland (10) have made more signings than us this summer, excluding the promoted clubs. I'm hoping the club press on with a striker now, preferably someone with Premier League experience, and I'd class this as a good transfer window.

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
losing jose aka the bull to liverpool for such a measely price is so depressing. he was a great player in my opinion easily our player of the season for last two years - just immense. seen abit of pieters, looks lightweight to me not physically built for english game unlike jose but i wont judge till i've seen him. seriously we couldnt be playing arsenal at a better time. If we dont get a result with arsenal without walcott, nasri, fabregas, vermaelan, diaby etc then i have no real hope for the season. As for the striker, im pretty much expecting to be disappointed when he arrives (if he ever does)
