Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
Credit to Pardew and his team for creating a fantastic team spirit amongst the squad and the results show this. Tiote, Cabaye, Obertan & Ba were superb today and continues our strong start to the season. To be able to bring players like Marveaux & Ben Arfa off the bench shows how strong the squad is and silences the doubters who wrote us off with the sales of Carroll, Barton & Nolan. A fantastic start.

Was at work today so missed the game, but really happy Ba has got his goals and we've finally beaten Blackburn! Really despise Steve Kean, he just seems to annoy me in interviews.
Just saw we've got Blackburn in the cup as well, surely if we beat them we're due a home tie?!

Cabaye is beginning to look one hell of a signing....
And well done to Ba today...i have criticised him as a Shola mark two....ill still hold my judgement for a few more games....but he had a cracking game today...
Early days but the boys are doing superb...maybe a striker in January...and Champions league all the way

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
Ba is different quality to Shola. Ameobi should never be selected again whilst Best & Ba are fully fit. Cabaye looks sensational, however the bigger a reputation he gets the quicker the opposition will mark him out the game, just like Everton tried to do with Silva at the weekend. We have serious quality in midfield and that has suprised many pundits who really showed they knew nothing about football around the world and quality that Ligue 1 possesses. Cabaye, Tiote, Ben Arfa & Marveaux are sheer class. There's no way we will be able to sustain this run of unbeaten games and I still worry that if Steven Taylor or Coloccini get injured then we are in serious trouble at the back. Top 8 should be a realistic target for this squad this season.

Demba Ba and Leon Best will make a solid tag team this season for the geordies, I don't think you'll end up missing Carroll as much as we feared.

I've just finished writing an article about how important Best, Coloccini, Tiote and Cabaye have been for us this season. I'll put a link on here when it gets put online
Some interesting stats that I discovered about our midfield diamonds though.

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
I think Best has been important.
He has scored goals..(he should really have had more, then chances he has had) but more importantly he is aggressive, strong (in the air also), quick and has a great work ethic.
He hastles defenders and gives us that focal point to play off....that Ameobi has simply never done.
And Colo...colo...Coloccini....Best in the league at the moment? Well i cant think of anyone i would swap him for....
And i think he's also having a big effect on Saylor, who looks far more assured and calmer.....he's not so wreckless this season.

Here's that article I mentioned earlier:

I was surprised to see just how well some of our players were performing in different areas, especially when compared to 'bigger' players.

Harper moving out to Brighton on loan. Hope he shines for them and can maybe sort out a move there in January or when they reach the playoffs. I think he's been a fantastic servant, but it's evident he wants to play first team football and with Timmy Krul doing so well he's not getting a look in.

Ok things going far better than anticipated....
A few tough games coming up now though....
Bu having seen what we have etc....what areas if any, would u wish to strengthen in the January transfer market.
Full backs? Another striker?
Or do you think we are good as we are an the youngsters can cover any injuries?

Obertan out for a month.
I think we need one more fullback, centre back, winger and a striker if we want to improve.

Ok the January transfer talk is in full swing.....
Giroud 25 yr old striker deal almost done £10m
Maiga deal almost done £8m
Traore 22yr old Burkina Faso international midfielder from Auxere in "advanced talks"
And a young scottish striker at Huddersfield...22 yr old....competeing with Celtic for his signature - £2m
Are Newcastle actually being proactive ready for the January opening....

The only ones I know about are Maiga, who's repeatedly said he wants to join us in January, and Rhodes who Pardew commented on last week. Where'd you find a report on Giroud and Traore?
Sammy Ameobi looked good for the U21s this week, do you reckon Pardew will give him some more chances?

Newsnow isn'tthe most reliable- and the only other sources I found were from The Sun and The Mirror... Similar with the Traore story. If it goes ahead then great, but looks like shoddy work by just seeing who's doing well in France and putting our name next to them.
I think in January we might see Smith and Lovenkrands leave, which would mean a couple more sub appearances for Ameobi.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/16023214.stmSteven Taylor is likely to miss the rest of the season as he prepares to undergo surgery on his injured Achilles tendon.
The 25-year-old centre-back limped off during the second half of Saturday's 3-0 Premier League defeat by Chelsea at the Sports Direct Arena.
A club spokesman said: "After medical assessment, he will be having surgery on Monday.
"It is likely he will be out for the rest of the season."

Looks like we're going to collapse throughout December with so few defenders, although Pardew has already spoke about reinforcing during January. I'm just thankful we've got past the 3 tricky games before losing Colo and S.Taylor, Swansea/Norwich/WBA aren't going to be as testing.

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
Everyone knew this was going to happen at some stages during the season and this is now a very worrying time for Newcastle in terms of continuing the progress the team has made so far. I wondered at the start of the season, how after a few defeats and injuries began to take their toll, how the team would react. Fortunately we have the points on the table. My first issue is the defence. We face having to play Perch & Kadar/Simpson in central defence along with bringing Santon in at left back and moving R. Taylor to a more natural right back......That terrifies me! Losing Tiote & Ba to ACON for six weeks arguably our two star performers adds to the problems Pardew is going to face........Welcome to Newcastle United Football Club Alan!. Another issue is Hatem Ben Arfa. He doesnt look happy in my opinion, I understand we have to give him time but he's been ineffectual in almost every game.
Transfer window musts
Striker to replace Ba - I dont understand this whole Maiga deal. Firsty I dont rate him and secondly he's another African. I would much prefer Gignac from Marseille.
Midfielder - We desperately need a solid holding midfielder to replace Tiote. Guthrie & Cabaye cannot defend and are offensive players.
Central Defender - We must go for Bassong on loan. I know he left us after being relegated but he's available and QPR nearly got him. Also he's not going to ACON.

I would doubt he would leave Montpellier in January, while they are leading the French League. A deal would more likely occur at the end of the season. It's central defenders which are the priority.

I dunno, i'd never rule anything out.
Agree with defenders! I see Sam Hutchinson has received a new contract at Chelsea, he was very highly rated, could be worth a loan shout if we can get someone experienced in as well.
Or Alex?

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
Admittedly we've haven't won the games without Tiote, but we never looked entirely weak in the middle. Ba will be the bigger loss.
I don't think we need another holding midfielder, Gosling is more than capable for when Tiote is away and Pardew seems very keen on giving Abeid a chance. It'd be a waste of money considering that we have two young options that want to prove themselves.
When Coloccini gets back the backline might look something like:
Simpson - Coloccini - Santon - R.Taylor
Santon played as a CB in Italy for a while and he gives the height that Simpson would lack. It's not the strongest backline, but with Jonas back supporting R.Taylor then we'd still be tough to beat.
But a centre back is something that will need adding, it seems weird to suggest that we should have replaced Sol Campbell. I'm still gutted we missed out on Varane in the summer, so perhaps another young guy that's shown some promise would be the best option.
Upfront is a strange one as Shola, Sammy and Best all have showed they can play quite well- but none stick out as clear goalscorers. It's my understanding that we're looking at another young lad to come in, but he won't be anywhere near the first team.
KB, I'd be worried about Hutchinson. Yet to be seen whether he's as good after what happened to him.

He'd be worth a punt though mate.
Don't forget we have Michael Richardson and Brad Inman who are doing their reps a world of good in the ressies and Haris must be due a run soon if Sammy is getting the nods.

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
Like I said, midfield isn't an area that needs looking at (immediately). If we could, I'd be very happy with getting in two fullbacks, a centre back and another striker. As long as we only lose fringe players (Lovenkrands & Smith) then I'd say that was a very successful window.

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
Yes Varane would of been a sensational signing, even allowing him to join on loan and integrate with the other french players would only benefit him.....but i guess this is turning into a big year for jose and he wants cover. Bassong looks a clear and available choice but would he welcome a move back is a big question. I can also see us (if the story develops in the coming weeks) a move for n'zogbia. We are still clearly interested and he's unhappy and was completely left out of Villa's squad last week. It's not a suprise, he's unhappy and a move back to a successful newcastle with a french contingent is something very attractive.

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
Newcastle are stuffed for the next few weeks. 2 players out of that back line.
You lot will be begging for decent replacement centre backs by chrimbo.
Norwich will score a fair few goals on the weekend, they are certainly not short of a few.

I think we'll get done by norwich and it will be the first big wake up call for pardew, everyone knew it was too good to be true hovering around the top 4.
Krul, Santon, Simpson, Perch, Kadar, Gutierrez, Obertan, Guthrie, Cabaye, Ba & Ameobi for Norwich but i'm not expecting much from Carrow road.
January needs to be proactive with bids/loans for bassong, n'zobgia, french striker and possibly ridgewell again from brum

Persoanlly wouldn't want any of the 3 players you've mentioned- two would be on crazy wages now and the third isn't even that good.
I'm also not sure how R.Taylor's been dropped completely from the team either in your lineup.
But I agree January needs to see some arrivals.

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
Well get used to those names cos there the players we've made late desperation bids for in the last two windows. You dont want them but if Ashley does then Ashley goes and gets them, nothing we can do about it. Bassong on a loan deal is achievable but i agree N'zogbia is a more difficult deal to conclude in terms of wages but if he's unhappy and being left out of the squad then who knows what his future is. I agree Ridgewell is a shocker and couldnt believe we made a bid for him and ruiz at the eleventh hour.
As for R.Taylor, I just think he needs a game out of the team to refresh himself mentally and physically. We've bought a £5million full back and have him warming the seats. R. Taylor has been fantastic for us this season but it's becoming clearer and clearer every game that the opposition knows our weakness is left back and the media have been all over this.

Bassong was offered to us in the summer but we turned him down. He would cause problems IMO in the dressing room after his departure.
Charlie seems to be having discipline issues at Villa and i can't see Pardew wanting a negative effect on the team.

S.Taylor - out for season
Coloccini - Month
Williamson - dont rate him and currently injured
Perch - shocking
Kadar - doesnt even have a squad number
You think we will turn Bassong down now?
You think if N'zogbia became available on loan we would turn him down? Obertan is a digrace and an embarrassment, if only tricks were rewarded with goals! Bringing N'zogbia back in an outside chance but being in an environment of fellow french players and a place where he knows well will only benefit him.

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
Plus it appears that Ruiz/Zog/Ridgewell were only last minute bids to make it look like we were actually doing something. Especially Zog in January when we got the Carroll cash. Bassong was quick to leave (But for a good fee) and Zog never seems happy.
Williamson was solid with Coloccini last season so can do well again. Perch played well against Chelsea, but isn't good enough to be 1st choice. But with Coloccini only missing 3 games, it'd be Colo-Williamson again soon enough. Kadar is #40 and will probably get a chance.
Why would Villa let N'Zogbia leave on loan? He was in at Villa at the beginning of the season and should be able to worm his way back into the squad. He's far too valuable an asset to let out on loan.

All 1,400 tickets sold; was one of the games I was thinking of going to, but adult tickets were £45.
We'll need to be lucky and play well to get a result today. No S.Taylor, no Coloccini, no Tiote, no Guthrie, adding to the missing Williamson and Marveax. Jonas is back for us, so his defensive covering could be key.

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
Be amazed if we get a result today. The thing which annoys me is Taylor n Colo would of had Morison in their pockets, I can't quite say the same thing about Perch et al. I think we could find ourselves right back in the pack with Stoke & Villa come end of December, undoing all the good work that's come before. Ben Arfa & Obertan are due performances. When Ba goes our strikers must step up and its typical that Tiote will come back for say a couple of games and then be missing for 5 to 6 weeks. Massive January
