Arsenal and Liverpool have both been linked- but neither have actually made a bid. I've seen it reported in several places that Newcastle have actually made a cash bid.

On a different note- Deloitte Report was published yesterday- the club's in £288m of debt, with £133m being owed (interest free) to Ashley. That's Poopie load of debt that will probably only be cleared if we get new, big investors. I should also mention that last season we should have made a profit, obviously figures won't be released until we reach the end of next season (I think).

To be honest I dont agree with those figures.
Am sure Man U are in much more debt then that, and also Arsenal with the cost of there stadium still being deducted etc.

With which figures- I didn't say we had the most debt. Just pointing out it's a huge amount considering we're not in Europe anymore. And going off the figures of expected wages, increased turnover and £30m upfront from the Carroll sale then we should be in profit.

I meant the figure Deliotte published today in The Mirror.

pedantic (comparative more pedantic, superlative most pedantic)
Like a pedant, overly concerned with formal rules and trivial points of learning.
Being showy of one’s knowledge, often in a boring manner.

Cabaye is in Newcastle today and Pardew will return tomorrow to complete his medical and finalise the deal officially.
Gameiro says he wants to join Valencia, and it's a straight choice between them and PSG.
Wonder if the club will have scouts in Denmark; only paper talk but we've been linked with James Tomkins in the past and he's in the squad. Doubt he'll start throughout the tournament though.

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
Only saw a handful of Lille games but he looks like a good box to box player with a good eye for a pass. Key member of the Lille team that won the League and Cup last season. For just over £4m he looks like he'll be a bargain; I think the season before last he got 10+ goals but didn't score as many last season. Got a fair few assists IIRC.

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
Churchill, other than the Gervinho and Gameiro, who seem to be getting further out of your reach, what striker would you like to see brought in? What about Rodallega? He's a good striker.
I think Cabaye could be another good central midfield signing, similar to Tiote.

Cabaye and Tiote are different though, Cabaye the more creative of the two. Could form a good partnership in the middle
Accepted this morning that Gameiro isn't coming; still have some hope for Gervinho. Rodallega would be alright, but I don't think we'll go for him. The names banded around are Shane Long and Mevlut Erdinc, both seem to be quite good. Seems like the club are reluctant to buy from England because most players are over-priced.

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
Yeah, it was a £10 million fee talked about for Rodallega which is far too much for him. What about Danny Welbeck, at least on loan for a season? He did quite well at Sunderland.
Yeah, I didn't mean similar type of player, more just another bargain buy for your midfield.

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
Midfield next season looks very promising, just need to add another winger. Tiote, Cabaye, Jonas, Ben Arfa, Nolan, Barton, Guthrie, with youngsters like LuaLua, Ferguson and Gosling.
He'd be excellent for pace, but I think Pardew will look for someone to lead the line on their own as well. Unsure whether Fergie would loan him as our dealings with loans with him are hit and miss (Miss: Rossi, Hit: Simpson- although I wish we had Rossi now:laugh:)
Also linked with Ji Dong-Won but that's just paper talk and he's off to the Mackems.

Arsenal have also supposedly confirmed a £12 million deal to bring in that Chamberlain lad from Southampton. I doubt both are true, I can't see him spending that much money on two players.

Reported by TalkSport? Always take that with a pinch of salt. Wouldn't blame him for choosing Man City or Arsenal ahead of us.
Arsenal supposedly have offers of £30m EUR + Thiago an Bojan for Cesc and £5m for Clichy, so they definitely have the money to spend.

Haha, TalkSport are only marginally better than the Daily Mail in my books
I can see the appeal to Gervinho at Arsenal because of the number of African players that have moved there and made a good career.

Aside form being desperate for at least two top stikers...what about our kids
Does anyone think Sammy Ameobi is going to be better than his brother?...
What about Phil Aiery? Too young...he should get a few starts at least in the league cup etc....see how he does.

Not holding out too much hope for Sammy Ameobi- only youngsters I think that look like they could potentially do well as squad/fringe players are Forster, Kadar, Gosling, Inman, Richardson, Ferguson and Vuckic. I was going to put LuaLua but I doubt he'll still be here.
We've rejected a bid from West Ham for Nolan.

TalkShit reporting we've agreed to sign Demba Ba on a free. Not too fussed, he's an improvement but we need a few others through the door.
Usual rumours about Reo-Coker because of the Pardew link as well.

I think Demba Ba would be a very good start for Newcastle. He scored goals for West Ham, and if you're getting him for nothing I think that's a very good deal. One thing I'd worry about is that knee injury he has, he didn't get signed by Stoke for it, so it might cause some problems.

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
The knee injury is my biggest worry. Don't want to be paying big wages for a player who will be injured most of the time.
Mark Douglas (Who was spot on with Cabaye) has said that NUFC are planning a move for a striker (Not Ba) worth £6-8m. Names being banded about include Erdinc, Negredo and Soldado. I'd say Erdinc is the most probable because of Gameiro joining PSG. Scouts have been in France, Germany and Holland and a few trips to Spain.
Would be so happy with the club if, in addition to Cabaye, we brought in Erdinc, Ba, N.Taylor and another winger or Gervinho- who's agents (yes several) seem to be holding up moves to different clubs - then I'd be very happy.
Most importantly (in my eyes) is to get Jose to sign a new deal.

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
i saw PSG play twice last season in europa league and a few times in ligue 1 - mevlut erding is a shocking signing if its true. basically gameiro signs for PSG and we end up getting ripped off 9m for erding who PSG now dont want cos hes garbage. erding has no composure watsoever in front of goal, got speed but lacks that class we need. 1 goal in i believe it 12 caps for turkey sums this boy up. classic pardew! I dont honestly believe pardew convinced any of these players to st james' was clearly ben arfa n tiote! I hope we've done this Ba deal cos hes a real playa showed it at hammers.

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
Reports coming out thart multiple agents and him not coming across as overly keen in meetings lead to us not being overly interested. But even if we did put in an offer he'd be stupid not to pick them.
Reported that Pards says he expects 4 other players to sign (Ba, Taylor, Erdinc and one possible other) saying two will be strikers. L'Equipe reporting with us interested in Matuidi.
Enrique has been offered an improved contract but seems to be waiting for a club in the Champions Legaur to come in for him.

He didn't say that.
If Enrique is waiting for a Champions League team to come in for him I think he'll be dissapointed. The only that will happen is if Clichy leave and Arsenal want him to replace Clichy, but more likely Wenger will just promote Gibbs and then another youngsters in Gibbs' place.

Like Leak said, that's not what I said. I'm saying if he was more enthusiastic (like Cabaye has came across) then maybe the Board would be more willing to make the move worth his while.
Enrique's form dipped when it looked like he wanted a big club move, but hopefully he stays and goes back to the form he had for the majority of the season.

I think he's as good as gone to be honest, in the Bolton game last season when i went he looked a million dollars, quality player who has improved so, so much since he came, he should of done an Aguero for at least the fans though and agreed a new deal so we got a proper fee for him, we payed just short of £6-7 million for him, he's worth twice that now, because he's twice the player he was.

The only problem with him being as good as gone is that no team seems to be interested anymore, certainly the interest from Liverpool seems to have cooled off a lot, but that may just be all the buzz around the Henderson deal meaning no word about Enrique is getting through.

Nolan completed a medical at West Ham. Happy because he went missing quite often in games and was on big wages, but not too happy because he was captain, brilliant behind the scenes and still kept us a threat at set pieces when Carroll had left.

So it looks like Nolan, Barton and Enrique are pretty much gone..
Guess that would leave a midfield of :
Lw....Guti / Fergi...........
AM....Ben Arfa
DM....Tiote
RW....Cabaye
With our kids...gaining valuable gametime.
Its quicker and more creative.
Do you think it will affect the team spirit?

The only problem is that would be an almost completely new midfield with no real on-pitch leaders like you had with Nolan and Barton, the only guy I can think of replacing their drive is perhaps Steven Taylor? But I may be wrong.

Cabaye on the wing?! It'll be Tiote and Cabaye in the middle with Ben Arfa and Jonas on the wings IMO. Barton was unprofessional for doing that, but can see him and Jose leaving in the summer- not just yet for Jonas.
Taylor would be the replacement, and I think Coloccini could do well in that type of leadership. Although Pardew said he wants Ba + 2 ST and another two players. One of them would be Neil Taylor (LB cover) so hopefully if Barton leaves it'll be another winger as well.
