John,
I just think fergi has much to offer. Better end product than Jonas, can play left back so defensively strong, decent pace can dribble.and cross.
A note on Good the young Aussie Centre Back - "Good has been likened to Jaap Stam down under and has a fearless style of play. Robust and clinical in his approach he should fit in to the Premier League mould reasonably well."
If he can ever hit Stams level...we've signed an awesome player....

Demba Ba's release clause has run out, meaning it's likely you've kept hold of him.

Yer nobody touched him for £7.5m so why would anyone now pay upwards of £15m. Got him for the season now without doubt and if Ivory Coast can beat Senegal in the ACON qualifier he won't be missing in January, neither will Papiss. Good News. Just need to get Debuchy signed.

I always knew we should of done the deal pre-euro's, looks unlikely now that a deal will go through and you can tell their president is holding out for a big offer from Inter. We are struggling at the moment with trying to progress and move to another level this summer. Almalfatino is an unknown and Birigimana/Curtis Good won't be getting near the first team next season.

No, definitely DS should remain with Santon LB. Debuchy deal isn't dead, it will probably come down to him going AWOL or deciding not to play for Lille which would then probably push through a deal nearer the deadline.

Hartlepool tonight...and many of the youngsters did very well.
Marveaux two goals, Amalfitano looked very good, putting in some very good crosses and bigirimana in the middle of the park looks a serious signing.....and will be a great understudy for Tiote this season.
Nice to see Vuckic scoring aswell.
However the best signing has surely got to be Graham Carr.

Well after that humiliation against Cardiff we could be going into the Spurs like this.....
- - - - - - - - - - - - -- -CISSE- - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - -
- - -MARVEAUX - - -- - - - - - - - - - - - - -OBERTAN - - - -

- SANTON -WILLIAMSON - -TAYLOR - SIMPSON
- - - - - - - - - - - - - -KRUL - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Demba Ba won't want to play on the left so Marveaux should get the nod. Coloccini & Tiote are doubts. Cabaye & Ben Arfa are absent. I'd take a draw right now. Anita is on his way but i'd have preferred Debuchy. Slightly worried for the start of the season

I think Marveaux looks a decent prospect and I would personally like to see Vukic get a few more games, looked a real good young player when I saw him last season.

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
Gael Bigirimana is the young lad from Coventry- he's looked promising in pre-season and it wouldn't surprise me if he starts alongside Abeid in some cup games this season.
Fully fit squad should start with: Krul; Simpson, Colo, S.Taylor, Santon; Tiote, Cabaye, Jonas; HBA, Ba, Cisse.
Back up should be: Harper; Perch, Willo, Good, Anita; Raylor, Gosling, Anita, Marveaux; Sammy, Shola.
Struggled thinking of our best back up team; we've got a really strong central midfield. Easy to see that defence needs some urgent reinforcements. There's talk of waiting for Douglas to gain citizenship so we don't have to mess around with a permit, but we still need another right back to replace Simpson when he leaves or a left back and push Santon to the right.

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
You mean Gael Bigiramana? I don't think Pardew is going to throw in the young kid ahead of Perch in that holding midfield position against Spurs. We are already a 'wounded' team going into the weekend and I'm actually very nervous about our first two games.
Apparently Cabaye is annoyed we haven't been able to conclude the Debuchy deal by upping our bid and P D Cisse is also concerned how slow our transfer progress has been in attempting to stay in the top 6. Anita does not want to sign until he is guaranteed a certain position in the team and has demanded talks with Pardew about where he will potentially play. I'm not exactly excited about Anita, as I was Debuchy, but we will have to wait and see. I really think we are going to struggle to deal with the Europa League with this squad size.
Without Cabaye, Ben Arfa, Coloccini and Tiote we are certainly going into the Spurs game underdogs. Ba & Cisse both have knocks and still remain uncertain to make the game. I'm kind of hoping Spurs are out of sorts being the first game and end up performing like Arsenal did at our place last season in that 0-0.

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
I wouldn't believe anything about the players being unhappy, Pardew has also stuck with only needing 2 or 3 reinforcements this season and their have been no grumbles. Anita has came out and said he wants a bit more in terms of wages, which shouldn't be too much of a problem. Bring in Anita, a centre back and right back and I'd feel confident about pushing for a top 6 finish again.

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
Just going to say it straight. Last night was appaling. If anything these two legs have proved our backup players are horrific and Pardew certainly knows that now. I though Gosling, Obertan, Simpson were so poor last night and Bigi looks very raw and is going to need alot of work. Obertan though was embarrasing. I believe at least 95% of his crosses last night hit the first man, he had the opportunity to shine against weak opposition and once again he failed miserably. His one on one attempt, he decides to shoot with the outside of his right foot.......words fail me. I hear Laudrup wants him on loan, please be true.
Our set-pieces were quite frankly horrendous after ryan taylor got injured. How long is he out for? Okay, we got through but I don't really see how this squad can deal with this competition and the league and be competitive in both. Even more depressing was the carling cup draw pitting us up against Man Utd away. Surely Pardew is just going to realise that going out the carling cup is a must.
Carroll goes to WHU on loan, where were we? A loan and then permanent transfer would of been ideal. I look forward to the Europa draw and seeing if we bring anyone in but I won't hold my breathe.

As oppose to perhaps aiming to stay in it? Maybe make a little home out of it?
It's certainly winnable, however, they'll need to play better than they did last night.

It's a very good draw in my opinion compared to Liverpool's and we should get out of it. However, if we play like we did last night then we have no chance whatsoever. I still can't get over how poor we were, shocking performance.

Deadline day for us is like when you were at school in detention and watching all the other kids playing outside.
If Babel is available on a free transfer then I would take him. Yes, comes with an attitude problem and previous but he's twice the player of Obertan.

Seriously worried about what we have in the locker behind the 2 Demba's , No one really stood out last night in what's lets face it should be a routine walk over win.
Hope Fat Ash and Pards can pull out a miricle signing in the next 2 hours , wish we'd of put some serious effort into bringing Andy Caroll back if i'm honest.

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
I echo what you've just said. Shola is always injured and getting Carroll on loan would of been ideal with the possibility of a permanent deal in the summer but it all boiled down to Carroll & Big Sam sharing agents and the Nolan factor.
Our back up players are horrific as shown last night and in the first leg. Losing Ryan Taylor is disappointing as he offers something different in terms of set-pieces.
Don't think any bids are going to be made now, although Boudabouz from Sochaux has been linked.

I'v seen that but at the minute we're being linked with every frog who can kick a ball , wouldn't mind us signing some one who might only get 10 goals a season as realistically he'd be a cup player and nothing more.
Mind you i think we'll take Aston Villa to the cleaners this weekend , just bought my tickets there. Should really have saved my pennies for a season ticket....

What a shambles.
Pardew needs to sort it out. Stop talking about things that aren't important and focus on the football.
Why we play 4-4-2 is beyond me. We spent last season playing a fluid and attacking 4-3-3 formation and now look at us? Being held at home by Aston Villa!

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
We played well and could well have beaten you.
I would have taken a point before the game, considering the start we have had, and the 6-0 a couple of seasons ago.
Watching online with my mate(Newcastle fan), I said to him as soon as Ben Arfa got the ball, this will be a goal.
Bent annoyed me a bit yesterday, when put through by Gabby, I was shouting shoot. He's not good enouth to try and take on defenders.
If you dont shoot you aint gonna score.
Surprised Given was dropped, but Guzan showed what a good keeper he can be. Vlaar was good at the back.
Pleased with the point and the way we played, thought fair result.
Least we're off the mark now.

I was strangely worried going into this game and just had a feeling we would struggle. I worry for us this season.
I've always thought that the starting XI would become complacent within the team, knowing that the back-up players were horrific, as show in the two legs in the Europa League. If you don't buy or strengthen a team then there's no pressure on the first team players to perform to the standard they did last season. We should be beating Villa by two or three with the teams that were on show but yesterday was awful. Ryan Taylor will be a huge miss, our set-pieces were embarrassing and clearly having Tiote out of the team was evident as Villa just played straight through us and opened us up at will. Danny Simpson is just plain awful. I'm still undecided on Anita, however he's looks better at right back than in central midfield.
I think it's Everton away up next and am not too optimistic about getting a result there. I think it's clear that we won't be challenging anywhere near top 4 this season with the demands of the europa league and having a small squad. I would take a top 8 now, however would then expect big name players to exit the door.

He needs to sort it out.
I'm not as concerned about the squad depth. Bigi was outstanding yesterday. Romain and Haris have both done well and i'd like to see this Campbell get a run out.
I don't understand this formation change. They grew into 4-4-3 last year and it was that system that allowed us to finish where we did. Why you would just then change it is baffling? I don't see how he can argue that teams will read us as half the thing with us is the unpredictability.

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
The system change is all about Demba Ba in my opinion. Reason he did not leave was because of the assurances Pardew gave him about being up front centrally alongside Cisse and not being wasted on the left. The consequences seem to be quite bad for us as a team.
4-3-3 was brilliant for us.........wonder how long it will take Pardew to resort back and possibly upset Demba Ba. One thing's for sure the back-up players are going to have to perform out of their skins this season when they get their chance.
I'm expecting alot of activity in January.

Demba Ba may have to hitch a lift to matches having just received a six month driving ban.
"The court was told the player had failed to attend two previous hearings and ignored police letters sent in November 2011 asking him to confirm who was driving his car on the two occasions in question."

Not sure if any of you are aware of who Steve Wraith is? He's a journo/promoter/bar owner/nufc fan up North who has a lot of links to the club. Yesterday he took to twitter regarding something that was said to him regarding dressing room unrest amongst senior players who felt the club failed to show any ambition in the transfer window. Alot of what he said could be construed as hearsay but he's been spot on with most of the things he's said in the past.
Anyway, after having his say and engaging in discussion with his followers, the NUFCOffical club account decided to publicly accuse him of stirring the pot and causing unrest.....again. Needless to say it was a complete picard moment, which then led to Steve going back and attacking the official club account over transfers, Mike Ashley etc. All the while they were doing this with the #nufc tagged, so all fans could see what was happening. It was unbelievably embarrassing for the club, especially when Mackems were taking Steve's side.
The whole saga ended with the club account blocking Steve and getting slated.
Another piece of negative publicity for the club and fans. When will the club ever learn.

Wouldn't surprise me if anything he said is true. After such a high last season finishing in the European places, I always thought that this season would be a big let down and the Villa result and performance did not help. The club needed to push on and take advantage of the situation with new signings, too keep us on a level with the opposition around us and for the current first XI to feel the club were moving in a positive manner and for them not to become complacent. The signings and lack of ambition was poor in my opinion. Heard rumours Cabaye was unhappy Debuchy did not arrive but I expect the french contingent to become unhappy this season if results start to be poor. I'm not overly confident going into the Everton game, I expect this will be a long hard season.

I'm not overly confident going into the Everton game, I expect this will be a long hard season.
The teams around us haven't strengthened, which is why it's frustrating that we didn't. I think the Debuchy issue is a double edged sword because we offered the fee that was discussed before the Euro's yet the Lyon president put it up because of the tournament. Yes the club could've offered more but why be held to ransom?
The intention was clearly there to spend, it just never worked out.

Tonight's game is massive and I'm really looking forward to seeing whether the team is up for a fight this season or there just going to live off last seasons performances and just jolly through this season and hope for a good europa league campaign before for wanting to leave.
No Krul, Ryan Taylor, Simpson, Tiote and Coloccini is rated very doubtful. After the poor Villa performance, I'm expecting something much improved against Everton. A draw tonight followed by two wins is surely our target. Norwich at home followed by Reading away are more than winnable games.

Everton are exactly the kind of team you don't want to face at the moment though, especially with players missing. Need to make sure Fellaini is controlled.

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
Well, the first half was utterly woeful. Never been more embarrassed as i was last night. No control, no width, no clue. How Everton weren't out of sight by half time still baffles me.
Whatever Pardew said to the players at half time, it seemed to have the desired effect. I think every toon fan was crying out for Marv off, Ba on. I'd been saying to others that he needed to put Jonas on the right to break up the Pienaar/Baines partnership and he did just that. We came out like a completely different side in the second half.
I'm happy to take a point. Everton have every right to feel robbed as the ball crossed the line. Fellaini was off for me, even if it was the tiniest of margins. Referee had a shocker though.
If Pardew takes anything from this it's that this 4-5-1 he's been tinkering with is sh*t and needs to go. Playing Cisse, Ba and Ben Arfa up front is what got us up the table last year. Don't try and fix what ain't broken.
Lastly, Everton really showed their true class last night. The Hillsborough tribute was touching and shows that even the fiercest of rivalries can be put to one side. I just hope United and Liverpool show the same class this weekend.

Echo your thoughts on our first half performance. It was excruciating to watch and embarrasing. I don't know how they came up with that formations and strategy but it was woeful.
Issues.
* Long balls to an isolated Cisse?????
* Jonas & Anita in a midfield three???????? (asking for trouble). Everyone knows Jonas is a wide player and Anita (still not convinced) is clearly a full back. Anita vs Fellaini - one winner.
* Formation????? Please go back to 4-3-3. Tell Demba to play up top on the left & rotate with Cisse during the game at points. Play or sit on the bench. Simple.
* No Tiote. Huge miss. Basically our central midfield just looks weak and gets penetrated with ease. Perch is doing a good job as cover but Cheick is needed ASAP.
* Full Backs is an issue and always has been.
Despite the controversy, to gain a point at Everton after that performance was superb. I worried about this season but last night gave me some confidence going into Norwich and Reading. Fantastic from Ba but King Shola has done it again. What a chest, what an assist......surely a pay rise?
What a game, what drama...........

Demba's not happy and his agent is now involved. Basically if everyone comes to their senses this will be resolved easily. 4-3-3 with Demba on the left of the strikeforce, okay he doesn't like playing there, but it's more favourable for the team and it's better than sitting on the bench. I could have this situation sorted in one meeting.
No point crying to the media about being left on the bench. No club is listening, they had the chance to buy you for £7m in July, now it's more like £15m.

Gutsy move by Pardew , leaving Ba out.
Been calling for one of him or Papiss to be dropped for a while but Ba has taken it the wrong way off the field and the right way on it.
I get the feeling Ba won't get a move unless the money is mad for him as Ash no doubt see's him as a money maker as long as he's scoring (3 goals in opening 4) and keeps scoring.
I don't see what Sylvain brings out wide , i'd much rather us play 4 -3-3 with Jonas , HBA and Ba to really get in behind the opposition and cause some havoc.
Midfield wise i'd play Cabaye , Bigi and Tiotie providing all fit for Sunday.
I'v been more impressed with Bigi than i have Anita who is obviously a right back playing centre midfield.

According to Pardew, Demba stil has a release clause of £7m for this coming January. I now can understand his agent coming out with what he did.

I could understand it in December? But now?
Apparently Demba wants 100k a week and we've told him to run and jump.

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
Basically Ashley will be making plans already to get rid in January and Carr will have his new targets in place. £7m & 100k a week will be offered to him from Rubin Kazan or from some other Russian side that were interested. Really need to replace him with a geniune classy left sided winger, so we can play that 4-3-3 formation.
Still 0-0 with Maritimo, apparently an appaling game with no quality. Basically sums up our back-up players. Must beat Norwich on Sunday.

Looking forward to the game on Sunday I am.
I think from a Norwich point of view, if we get anything from your place its a bonus. I do hope we put up a good performance like we did at Spurs, and if we can, I reckon we could nick something

Looks like we'll have Tiote back for Sunday which changes our team significantly for the better. I think after our last shocking home performance against Villa, Pardew is going to expect something far improved and I think we'll do you say 3-1

I think it will be closer than you think John. We have been playing quite well, but missing a lot of chances, so I hope we can start to take em this weekend.
But like I said earlier, anything we get from your place would be a bonus, you got a quality side up there

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
We've been quite poor ourselves, I mean Cisse hasn't even got off the mark this season and Cabaye is only starting to get back to full sharpness. If Tiote returns to the fold on sunday and following our confidence boosting result at Everton, we can go into this game with more confidence about getting a result. Your a decent side but I just think our offensive options will probably outperform yours on the day. Still predicting a 3-1 because we need to start kicking on now in the league.
