No Tiote?
Reckon he's on his way out in the summer then, but with his cards to games ratio why would anyone take him?

He's been poor this season, but someone would take him. I think you could get £8-£10million for him easily, and that would suit Ashley. It's the model he wants to run.
Either way he'd be good cover.
Still no word on Colo though.

Sissoko and his reps are on their way, expected on Tyneside in the morning.
I've seen a few stupid tweets about pics being taken down. Bottom line, unless we get cash, he aint going anywhere till the summer.

They would take that. £8m for a 30 year old.
Whatever is going on, his chances have been harmed by San Lorenzo's insistance on publicly talking about it.

I was referring to Cheick for £8m.
San Lorenzo are they're own worst enemy at times , keep trying to force the deal through but Mike Ashley is no mug with Money and will expect some type of deal. Wouldn't be surprised if they became a feeder to us with Colo as the rep.

Exactly.
You have to begrudgingly credit the board for this.
We are still spending Andy Carroll money, and we're on the bring of signing 5 French Internationals for less than £20m.

Remind me again why we should give props to Mike Ashley? For introducing another transfer policy which may see us relegated for the second time in 4 years? For desperately trying to sign some pretty average players to reverse out horrendous form due to the lack of investment in the squad?

Its a bit of a worry when a club is making FIVE 1st team signings in January. Especially all being from France as if they all start, there will be no bedding in period, just a baptism of fire. Can all 5 handle the rigors and pace of the Prem. Worrying times at the moment if you are a Newcastle fan
Ashley should be criticised for not backing Pardew in the summer. You should have pushed on after finishing 5th last season, instead of panic buying out of a relegation battle.

I'm fine thanks Azzy. Think I got the general drift about us competing in the French league next season.
In all seriousness nothing wrong with a few Frenchman in the team. After all we've got a Dutch keeper to balance things out.

Pardew stated in the summer he was happy with the squad and didn't push for investment. They invested in youth and planned blood them in the cups and Europe to see how they would do.
They failed.
People seem to think he just flat out refuses to spend money, when in actual fact he's happy to do it providing the club don't get ripped off.
He was also the guy that got the Mbiwa signing over the line and pushed through the deals for Goaffran and Haidara as Llambias was dealing with Colo and Pardew was at Villa Park.

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
"I think with the players we have got on board and the manager and his ideas, we can definitely close the gap, get in the top six and, in the long term, why not challenge for the title," Quotes from Yanga-Mbiwa - I seriously have to agree with the guy and that's no joke. Okay, challenging for the title may be far fetched but the rest I totally agree with. Although this season is primarily about survival and then pushing on and challenging next season without the Europa League.
I am slightly worried that the team is basically dominated by french players and that realistically S. Taylor will be the only englishman in the starting line up. It's something we've got to accept, why pay £15-20m on english talent such as Downing or Henderson who have flopped, when french talent of equal or superior ability is available for a reduced fee and wages. Ashley is a smart businessman and this is the direction the club has gone down. In reality, it's the only way we can compete now because the top clubs poach the young english stars and then just waste them.
I do agree that Tiote's days maybe numbered if Sissoko arrives. The club probably should have sold Tiote when he was hot property last season and realistically we could of received at least £15m for the lad. Now, after a disappointing season that price seems to have halved, which will probably be irritating for Ashley and his business plans.
At the moment I'm pretty confident the team will avoid relegation. If we fail to beat Aston Villa though after watching them last night then I will begin to worry.....

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
Goaffran and Haidara have passed medicals, expect them to be confirmed by about 5pm.
Sissoko isn't on Tyneside, rumours are the deal is still a long way off as Toulouse want too much money for him in this window.
Rumours of Ricky Van Wolfswinkel that were originally dismissed now seem to be true, with reports coming out of Portugal that we would be prepared to meet their valuation of £10m.
Lastly, word from Colo's Dad is that he will stay until May.

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
Is this Van Wolfswinkel story true? Seen the lad for Sporting and in the Europa, looks a player and a good finisher. A good replacement for Demba Ba and has a physical presence about him which should suit the EPL. If Colo stays until May and makes sure we don't get relegated then I think it would be agreeable for him to leave for good. Great servant and did master the english game after a tough start. Great Pro. I think we will take Sissoko in the summer and the listen for offers on Cheick.

Sissoko will come. The Toulouse Chairman has been speaking about his threat to leave him in the reserves and said 'Those who don't think i'll do it, don't know me'.
Better to shell out a fee than take on a player with zero game time or confidence.
Yeah, San Lorenzo can't afford the fee. I think the agreement was always a case of, if Colo wanted to leave and SL paid a fee, they would begrudgingly let him go. I think we'll keep him till May. The important thing is that Mbiwa wasn't a replacement for Colo.
John,
Hard to say. Chronicle and Lee Ryder are claiming it's rubbish, but the Journal are saying there is interest and there are reports in Portugal. It could be his agent, but Sporting are reportedly strapped for cash, so would sell.
Another potential, is Jack Butland from Birmingham, though this would be a last minute thing and he would be loaned back to Birmingham till end of the season.

Think signing Butland would be a bad idea, would only disrupt Krul who is already an excellent young goalkeeper. The only advantage is that Butland is English.

No. The idea of buying Butland is as a replacement for Tim Krul, if he were to leave for A.C Milan. They would not sign Butland if Krul was staying, what would be the point. Being English is not exactly an advantage, if anything, it's a disadvantage because his price will be inflated. I can't see Krul leaving anyway, seems unlikely.

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
Depends on the prices really - with Birmingham's financial difficulties anything like Butland for £3m-£4m, and selling Krul for £7m-£8m, would be fantastic business.

Butland for £3m-4m????? If he was that price then the Top 4 would of snapped him up months ago. This is the over-inflated english market and you think that one of the biggest goalkeeping prospects and potential threat to Joe Hart would be available that cheap. Birmingham have stated they would not even contemplate selling him for less than £6m. Southampton offered that back in July and it got rejected. We don't even need Butland because Krul won't be going anywhere.

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
Birmingham City are in c.£140m of debt, their owner is on trial and will almost certainly get a long jail term. Their squad is near the top of the wage bill in the entire Championship, and when the administrators get called in, Butland would cost £2m plus add-ons tops. If Blues get £3m-£4m now, I'd bet they'd take it.
They're in a different situation than they were in July.

1) I wouldnt swap Krul for any keeper in the world!
2) Van Wolfswinkel is an attacking midfielder who is playing as a striker in Portugal. He favorite spot is behind the strikers. Now as we have Marveaux and Ben Arfa who can currently play there...is there much point?

It's taken Marveaux forever to settle in and pick up some form - how long can he keep it? He's a good impact player to have on the bench, but RVW would be a better bet for consistency and threat I reckon.
I'd have Casillas, Buffon, Hart and Neuer at the very minimum over Krul. Then again, I'd hate Albion to set Ben Foster aside for any of those either!

Nah ill just keep Krul thanks...and we shouldnt have got rid of Fraser Forster.
Marveaux has had lots of injury problems but looks to finally be showing what he can do. But i wouldnt bet that he'll make it through the season uninjured!
I guess we'll just see what happens.

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
So let's just take a minute and see where we stand in terms of a realistic side from February onwards. If we play 4-3-3:
- - - - - - - - - - -CISSE - - - - - - - - - - -
- -GOUFFRAN- - - - - - - -BEN ARFA- - - -
- - -CABAYE - - -TIOTE - -SISSOKO- - - -
-SANTON- - COLO - - M'BIWA - -DEBUCHY - -
- - - - - - - - - - -KRUL- - - - - - - - - - - - - -
That would be my first XI. I know nothing of Haidara and therefore it may take him time to settle to the EPL, Sissoko is more experienced and more proven at this kind of level and would go ahead of Anita for me. Gouffran can play on the left (i would think) in a 4-3-3 but my guess he would rather play up top in a 4-4-2.....remind you of anyone? Still think we need a striker with more physical presence.
Bench
Elliott/Harper
Gutierrez
Marveaux
S.Taylor
Obertan
Anita
Haidara
Williamson
Amalfitano (if we ever see him)
Ameobi(s)
Perch
Not bad, certainly there are options and R. Taylor will also make a comeback. Underrated player, emphasised through our lack of set-piece goals this season.

Another big game tonight. Would a point be a reasonable return or should we be looking for three points given Villa's present situation?
Of course we aren't exactly on fire ourselves but a decent performance tonight could be the turning point in the season we need given the squad strengthening of late. Any thoughts?

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
We should be looking for the win, no question. Villa are in disarray after embarrasing performances against Bradford & Millwall but our away form is shocking. A draw would be the safe bet but doesn't really help either team.
If we fail to win or even lose, then we are in serious trouble and then the stupid Newcastle supporters will be calling for Pardew's head. You can't just expect these new signings to suddenly make us 'great', they need time to settle and get to understand the system but then again they might have an immediate impact.
I'm nervous about tonight but my heart says a poor standard, tight 1-1 draw but my head says 1-2 to Newcastle with a Frenchman scoring the winner

John your prediction was spot on although by the sounds of it we rode our luck a little in the second half.
First away win of the season and just what Pardew and the boys needed to hopefully kick start something better for the second half of the season.

Yes my prediction was spot on, knew it would be a tight, tense affair. Quite brilliant first half, followed by a poor second half where the new lads tired slightly and Villa's dodgy penalty gave them momentum. Great result. Just need Ben Arfa to replace Gutierrez for that added speed, creativity and danger on the counter.
Massive 3 points.

I think credit to Pardew for not making wholesale changes and bringing in just the two new players. Sissoko made a huge difference and looks (early days) like he could be a really great signing.
The players showed some real fighting spirit in the second half and Krul did enough to earn the three points against a Villa side who certainly gave it their all in the second half

Didnt think we'd win, to be honest I dont know when our next win is coming from.
Think you guys will be fine.
We played well second half from the sounds of it.
2-0 down though, we're just chasing the game.
