Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
A midfield trio of Sissoko, Cabaye & Tiote is exciting along with the return of Ben Arfa. Sissoko, to me, looks like he could be the real deal. Over the years, people have always said that Abou Diaby was the next Patrick Vieira in the making but Moussa looks like he's got all the attributes and technical skill to come very close. It might be early on to say that but he's certainly a fantastic prospect. It's astonishing when you compare how Liverpool paid over £15m for Henderson and we've just spent £2.5m on Sissoko. Mr. Carr you've done it again.
Think we will be safe from relegation but it will still be a long battle ahead until May. Chelsea & Tottenham are up next so we are definitely not out of the woods by any stretch of the imagination.

John I think also credit to Wenger here. After all he showed the way forward by bringing in all the French players he could and really benefited until all the other teams realised that buying wisely from our near neighbour(s) meant they too could get some cut-price bargains.
Sissoko could be a real coup and it'll be interesting to see how the other recruits pan out as well.

Sissoko looked the part like.
I feel a bit more confident now if we can get everyone back fit.
I know i harp on...but i would love to see a few young local lads really coming through the system and making progress in to the first team. A few more like Steven Taylor, Andy Carroll, Peter Beardsley, Chris Waddle, Alan Shearer etc... please.

Didn't think much of the deadline transfer window apart from one story. Got this from NUFC.COM
Xis-gone
Newcastle confirmed on Thursday night that Xisco had terminated his SJP contract, exiting SJP four and a half years after arriving from Deportivo la Coruna in a £5.7m deal. He leaves with a bucket of money, some new tattoos and a Northumberland Senior Cup winners medal.
Thank you Dennis Wise.
haha.....what a shocking signing.

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
Shocker from Pardew in not reacting to Perch injury and bringing Tiote on, I was fuming and it without doubt cost us a valuable point. Next week is a must win against a resurgent Southampton & Tiote is a must start. Gouffran has no break in his leg and should be out for a couple of weeks. Surely a return for Hatem. Thought Sissoko looked incredibly leggy today, lethargic and nothing like what we saw last weekend. Gutierrez, once again poor......what does he offer?

I assume it's all gone quiet but maybe that's good news.
Good win against a pretty decent Southampton side (surely they are too good to go down?)
Anyway where's Ben Arfa or is it his hamstring causing him grief still? Also Elliot had a good game but is Krul going to recover quickly after his European heroics form his ankle injury?
Get those two up and running again and we should have a reasonable run in to the end of the season.

Even though we've had an appaling first half of the season to be only 3 points off 10th is quite remarkable and just shows how tight the EPL is this season down there.
Krul is about 2-3 weeks I'm hearing and Ben Arfa should be back but not match fit for the Swansea game which is good news. If we can put a decent run of form together I see no reason why we can't challenge Swansea for ninth who are currently on 37pts. Be very happy with a top 10 and look forward to building for next season.

Troubled striker Nile Ranger has left Newcastle after his contract was cancelled by mutual consent.
The 21-year-old was in late January released on bail after being arrested on suspicion of r***.
A statement from the club tonight said: 'Newcastle United can confirm that Nile Ranger has today left the club by mutual consent.'

Doesn't surprise me, the lad is clearly trouble and its like a time bomb of when his next incident is. Any professional football club taking him on, must be very brave. With that being said, he is clearly a talented football and a football league club still in with a chance of promotion or trying to stay up could maybe take the gamble by offering him a contract till the end of the season, in order to help boost their ambitions.

Disappointed by today's result, should of got the draw. Without doubt need some competition for Papiss Cisse, he's too inconsistant and not physically effective enough for the role he's been given. Hopefully a new striker in the summer can come in a provide a challenge. Still hoping for a top 10 but it might be a push now, although I think getting 6 points from 6 against Stoke (h) & Wigan (a) is very achievable and would literally see us safe.

Benfica in the QF's of the Europa League, exciting draw but could probably be the end of the run, will be a great second leg and hopefully we still have a chance and away goal will be crucial.
Disappointing news regarding Hatem Ben Arfa who is ruled out of the remainder of the season.
Wigan (a) on Sunday - Tight game, I would imagine we may be tired and Cabaye maybe missing, would take a draw.

Wouldn't be able to make a trip over there during the week as busy. I'm sure ITV will finally put us ahead of Chelsea & Tottenham for one of the legs, seeing as our tie is more appealing than Basel. I've seen just one leg of our European run this season and that was Anzhi (a) and all the rest just highlights.

How many offsides does cisse get, deffo onside although we were awful. Gutierrez is just an embarrassment and must follow the expected exit of collocini. Seriously need a new striker, absolute must. Cabaye looked injured and jaded after so many games. We just need to crawl over the line and bring in new faces and remove the deadwood, I.e obertan, Jonas, Simpson, gosling etc.
Shocking day.

Yeah i agree...was very poor. Cabaye looks a shadow of himself. Tiote not great.
What concerns me is the total lack of chances we create in the last third. Theres just no creation.

On paper Newcastle have a top 6 side. Easily. But for one reason or another, this season has been catastrophic for you guys. Coloccini is about to leave, Santon keeps getting linked with AC Milan, Simpson keeps getting duffed up in nightclubs, Cabaye and Tiote look like they just woke up, and Cisse is about your only real threat.
What do you guys want to happen this summer? New manager and coaching staff, one with ambition / drive / experience / big name draw? New, non-French signings? What's the ideal summer?

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
Surely priority has to be a striker. Cisse hasn't been at the races this year and seems to not have that instinctive brilliance of last year, missing quite a lot of chances. Then with Ameobi has back up you don't have much chance. Gouffran has been a huge disappointment as well. When QPR go down, they might get Remy after all.
They'll need to replace Coloccini as well.

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
Bad new about Ryan Taylor lads, he's a great little player. You have to fear that he'll never recover his form of old now that he's missing another season on top of this one?
Guest- Guest
Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
Underated player was Ryan Taylor and his set piece delivery and creativity has been a huge miss. Gutierrez is a certainty for the exit door, great servant but the club has moved on to another level and you can't just select him because of his versatility or engine. Technically he is appalling and gets found out week in week out. Tiote has had a shocking season for whatever reason and santon just isn't a defender, hence his mistakes that have cost us and why haidara came in. Cisse may score goals and grab headlines but his chance conversion rate is shocking. We need a physical, strong presence up front to offer something different but all we`ve been linked with is Patrick Aubameyang from st Etienne. Can see us going back for Remy. Coloccini leaving means a new centre back will be needed because Williamson is dreadful. Ben arfa isn't fit and without him theres no creativity but his future is uncertain. Marveaux has been a revelation in my opinion but he can't score which just puts more pressure on cisse. Pretty happy with Pardew right now, no need to get rid, its just been one of those seasons where what could go wrong did go wrong
Summer In - centre back, winger, striker as a minimum.
Out - coloccini, Gutierrez, obertan, gosling, Simpson
Also where the hell has amalfitano been, must be horrific in training for us not to have seen him this season.

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
It's not a case of waiting for everyone to be fit for next season and then expecting to be back challenging the top 6. I think many teams have improved and strengthened their squads and we will need serious investment in the summer. Cisse again today was wasteful, we have no wingers and forcing Sissoko out-wide is just pointless. Gutierrez offers absolutely nothing, it's embarrasing. Yanga-Mbiwa is still settling in the EPL and looks nervous. We are officially the worst team in the EPL at offensive set-pieces......shocking.
We're basically crawling over the line and it's not a pleasant watch.

Agree John, he's been a loss.
The guy is infruriating. His final ball is woeful in fact one of the worst ive seen at this level.... Yup time to move him on.Gutierrez is a certainty for the exit door, great servant but the club has moved on to another level and you can't just select him because of his versatility or engine. Technically he is appalling and gets found out week in week out.
Tiote has had a shocking season for whatever reason and santon just isn't a defender,
Totally agree again...Santon can be packed off back to Italy..wouldnt concern me. Tiote needs to freshen up. Last season him and Cabaye were electric...this year the pair have looked a shadow of that partnership. We can only hope it was second season syndrome and next season they come back refreshed and rejuvanted.
Cisse may score goals and grab headlines but his chance conversion rate is shocking.
Ive been stressing this to my mates...he reminds me of Andy Cole...he need 4 or 5 chances to score a goal. Andy Cole got away with it...but im not sure Cisse will. Mind I dont like the idea of playinghim upfront on his own, and think pardew has got that wrong.
We need a physical, strong presence up front
Id take Andy Caroll Back...exactly what we need along side Cisse
Williamson is appalling. We have to bring in a couple of Defenders...and also for all Taylors passion and desire for the club...he's not a top class defender either.Coloccini leaving means a new centre back will be needed because Williamson is dreadful.
Ben arfa isn't fit and without him theres no creativity but his future is uncertain.
Another who looks totally out of it. Hes totally unfit and carrying way too much weight. Marvaux has been excellent as you say, but we need more in the final third.
On the outs id add Santon, Abdi Mehdi, Shola, Vukic, Williamson and try to replace the lot in the summer. Wouldnt be hard at all, im sure we could find better in the Scottish 2nd division.Summer In - centre back, winger, striker as a minimum.
Out - coloccini, Gutierrez, Obertan, Gosling, Simpson,
Theres been a few of these youngsters who are just not making the grade at all...Also where the hell has amalfitano been, must be horrific in training for us not to have seen him this season..

Woeful yet again. Only positive is me being able to pipe up about how little I like and/or rate Pardew. Geordie I agree with most of your player assessments, but some of them are not poor players - they're just players playing poorly.
Pardew has to take a large amount of the blame. His managerial record seems to follow a worrying pattern of short term bounce for a season followed by gradual decline.

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
Basically if we can't beat QPR then we deserve to go down. Simple as that. We are playing appaling, absolutely no quality and Pardew's tactics are just negative, mainly because of the lack of options or alternatives.
Season's been a nightmare, europa league, injuries & lack of investment last summer have all been huge factors in this years demise. As a Newcastle fan, I do look back at that woeful refereeing display by Halsey at Wigan, which not only cost us three points but gave Wigan the points instead and has probably cost us our EPL status. I'm depressed.

Well....we're safe.
Now begins the clear out...
Hows about:
Williamson, Santon, Vuckic, Obertan
Gosling, Shola and Sammy Ameobi,
Abdi Medi, Elliott, Gutierez, Ben Arfa...any others?
Sadly the one i dont want to go is Colocinni...gonna be difficult to replace him...but we must...
We need some creativity in the final 3rd, and a couple of top class centre backs.
Oh and a quality back up keeper for Krul - why did we let Forster go??

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
Williamson should be sold back to Watford if they get promoted and he can replace Fitz Hall. Obertan......who is going to touch him, truly embarrasing. Gosling is just a nothing type of player, doesnt really offer anything offensively or defensively. Vuckic is one who had promise but is injury prone and has not really made the step up when he's played. Abdi Medi & Amalfitano are just obviously not good enough, otherwise they would of played more. Elliott is a keeper (excuse the pun). Ameobi's are going nowhere, just the way it is. Santon is a difficult one. He can't defend but offensively he could be turned into a good winger. I dont believe A.C Milan would touch Santon, not after this season's performance. Gutierrez is just plain awful, technically dreadful and should be sold. Although without him chasing down Rob Green at the weekend, where would we be now? That doesn't excuse his other shocking performances throughout the season.
Coloccini future????? Who knows, love to keep him but fear the worst. Ben Arfa is an unknown, does he really see himself at NUFC long term....doubt it. Wants to play for PSG, won't happen in my opinion and that just leaves Liverpool and potentially a swap with Carroll.
Targets (I think this season's woes will have altered their thinking on French players as we definitely need a more British steel to our team)
-Patrick Aubameyang OR Andy Carroll OR Loic Remy (I'd expect 2 out of 3)
-James Morrison (always been linked with him and British)
-Mamadou Sakho of PSG OR James Tomkins of West Ham (heavily linked previously but not sure if I would be too happy)
- Also more creativity because too much burden on Cabaye.
Thank God We Survived

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
I can see Newcastle rueing last summer for a long time, they had the perfect opportunity to invest in the squad when they were strong and could attract some top players but failed to take the chance. Now they will have to have a serious rebuild in the summer which means next year could become a transitional year.

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
Not really. All we need is the injuries to clear up and possibly add three or four new faces to join the squad, like any other club will do this summer. It was having no strikers in the squad which cost us dearly because Cisse was just woeful, even though 'non-watchers' of Newcastle would of just read about his last minute goals but didn't see his performances. There's also no European football on the calender next season, therefore I think we can realistically be challenging back among the top 8 next season. That's not unrealistic and I don't see it being a transitional period at all. People have just seen this season's struggles and instinctly thought that we need a massive overhaul of the club.

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
I actually agree in the whole that we have been dogged by form etc...however i do still think there is a whole load of deadwood in the squad that needs shipped out and I'd like to see a couple more Brits coming in though John...think we have enough foreigners.
I appreciate that comes at extra cost...but i'd just like to see a bit more British bite in there.
Players like Obertan, Gutierez etc are no better than some of the lower league players...indeed i think we could find better players down there....at a lot less cost in terms of wages etc.
We need to get the right balance.

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
Thankgod our season is over, totally and utterly embarrasing and difficult to watch all season. Last three home games we have scored no goals, had no creative spark, no goal threat and been completely outplayed. I've defended Pardew for a long time but judging from our performances, he's possibly not the man to take us any further. I can see him given six games next season, if things aren't going well. I actually can't believe this side finished fifth last season and just shows how important Demba Ba was to our side. Watching Cisse miss chance after chance is just infuriating.
Be interesting to see who we bring in now.

Yeah i think Pardew has to hold his hands up and take some of the blame as his tactics have been poor.
But the players have looked a shadow of last season...and as you rightly say Cisse looks a poor player.
It will be very interesting to see who we bring in...especially if we lose Coloccini.

Looks like we may have a little cracker in young Adam Campbell..after his performances for England in the Euro u-20's...and that Pardew will give him more gametime next season.
Also suggestions that Santon may be permanently pushed forward to midfield now...again which makes sense.
And too many reports circulating about an 18m bid for Papis Cisse from a Russian club to be nothing...id accept that...but knowing Ashley he'll want more...

Surely if you can get £18m for Cisse, you'll sign Carroll for £17m? I know which player I'd rather have.
Guest- Guest
Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
Cisse for £18m.....Yes please. Basically I would just replace him with Darren Bent for £4m, we need more British players, he's a proven goalscorer and certainly more efficient and more clinical than Papiss. It would be a straight swap, both technically poor but Bent would be the better finisher and financially makes sense. We would still need another physically strong centre forward. Hatem Ben Arfa for £12m to Monaco and we've then got £30m to really improve this squad for the long terms, add in the TV & EPL money and Ashley is sitting on a big mountain of cash.
Happy that Pardew has finally woken up and realised Santon is not a defender. He looks more promising and effective going forward, whenever he defends he just looks nervous and his positioning is woeful. Should remove Gutierrez from that left hand side.

Patrick Aubameyang
Thomas Ince
Will Hughes
Bojan Krkic
What confirmed 'genuine' defenders have we been linked with other than Vermaelen because if Coloccini jumps ship we are in some serious trouble. Lescott does not feel me with much excitement either.

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
haha. No just never been a huge fan of his, basically the only time he's look good was when partnering Jagielka at Everton I think. I think he just looks like a mistake waiting to happen, slow and ponderous and his passing ability is just woeful. Maybe I'm wrong about him but Mancini didn't fancy him either, especially after trying to give away the title with that horror show against QPR on the last day of the season.
All I'm hearing about are attacking options being linked and nothing concrete about any centre backs of quality who are realistic targets and not ridiculous ones like Vermaelen.

At least Lescotts English....surely.
Looks Like Ben Arfa is defo away back to france looking like Monaco...but more so Cabaye being tracked by PSG looks another rumour not to be taken lightly...
How would you feel about losing him?

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
Ins
Will Hughes (British talent)
Tom Ince (British, genuine winger which is a must)
Victor Wanyama (Replacement for Tiote)
Loic Remy (Will we go back?)
Patrick Aubamayang (Maybe too good for us)
Andy Carroll (West Ham bidding for Negredo say something)
Ola Toivonen (Not signing a new deal with PSV, physical striker)
Jay Spearing (Hanging myself if this is true)
Outs
Tiote (Lokomotiv Moscow)
Coloccini (Argentina)
Cabaye (PSG/Monaco)
Ben Arfa (Monaco)
Cisse (Anzhi)
Williamson (Whoever is desperate)
Obertan (The seriously desperate)
Simpson (released)
Thoughts? Club have come out and said that they will be focusing on quality rather than quantity coming in this summer, not sure if that's a positive.

As for your lists:
Ins
Will Hughes - Absolutely...get him in!

Patrick Aubamayang - Give it a shot.
Andy Carroll - Absolutely what we need up front.
Ola Toivonen - Would prefer Carroll...local English lad.
Jay Spearing - Oh god please no! We have Anita...
Outs
Tiote - Id let him go...if we can get decent money for him and Bigirimana can step up.
Coloccini - Massive loss...Going to be so hard to replace.
Cabaye - Id be dissapointed with this one.
Ben Arfa - Let him go...Tom Ince can replace.
Cisse - Let him go , will make some money and we can find better finishers in the championship.
Williamson - He's appalling

Re: Newcastle United News Thread!
Would you be disappointed to lose Cisse? My answer.......No. He also won't wear the Wonga sponsored kit, Ashley will want this solved and will sell up in my opinion.
Would you be disappointed in losing Cabaye? My answer......Yes & No. He's a good player but is replaceable. Did not play great towards the end of last season and was ineffective in the big games and was injured alot. At his age, getting a fee of upto £15 after buying him for £4m is great business. He's also basically said 'Come and get me' to Man Utd, therefore my love for him has reduced significantly.
Would you be disappointed in losing Ben Arfa? My answer.....kind of not bothered now. His heart is not in Newcastle and he will always aspire to play for PSG or somewhere bigger. Injury prone and more ineffective than effective means he should probably be sold for £10-£12m
It's not all doom and gloom losing these players in my opinion. The only one I'm worried about is Coloccini but I've heard no news about him or any replacements.
