Mayweather vs GGG next May!
Ok folks I know it's as likely to happen, as Carl Froch never mentioning Wembley again.
GGG has stated he would come down to 154 to face Floyd.
Now I rate Floyd very highly. In my eyes he is in the top 10 and has the ability to be top 5. For me if he took this fight and won it, he would easily be in my top 5 ever. Hell even if he lost a close decision, I would put him top 5.
At 154 I do give Floyd a good chance. GGG isn't a big Middle but he would still lose something at 154. I know this fight won't happen but I can always day dream.

Read GGG's statements on this yesterday.
You have not even faced a half decent name in your own division and you want Floyd next????

I agree but he has that name of the fearless warrior.
Would be agreat way for Floyd to bow out. Don't get me wrong, if he won there would be loads of idiots who previosuly worshipped GGG, stating that he has fought no one.
Before anyone get's their undies in a twist I am talking about idiots from other forums. Most on here are balanced in comparison.

Re: Mayweather vs GGG next May!
While it's a good fight with Floyd, I'd much prefer to see him fight Ward.
But if the fight with Ward falls through because of Golovkin's catchwweight demand, then that will be very disappointing.
I side with Ward on this one, if Glovkin wants the fight the onus is on him to move up.
A catchwweight between champions should only really be up for discussion were they to be separated by two divisions in my book. Onus has always been on the lighter guy to move up.
50/50 split fair enough but if Golovkin was willing to move up for Froch and Chavez jr, it looks like maybe he doesn't believe in his ability as much as we think.
Just have a feeling Ward could make him look ordinary, but it's a fight that will have fans salivating, I feel.

Re: Mayweather vs GGG next May!
Yep, top-class African-American slickster is normally the antidote to the Mexican style. Thinking Pea/Chavez off the top of my head, Shane with Tony too, though Tony is obviously no Golovkin(especially the night he boxed Shane.)
The interesting angle is whether Gennady can land his shots. Ward seldom gets hit once, rarely if ever by a combination but his chin is by no means impregnable even if his defence sometimes appears that way. And could Gennady hurt Ward to the body. Ward has shown he can handle pressure but probably never seen anything like Golovkin before with his power and shifting etc. Love to see it get made.

I don't think Ward himself will make 168 again leaving the fight with GGG dead in the water anyway.
I'm far more interested in Kovalev - Ward thatn this non starter again. And as for Floyd? Won't happen.

According to most posters on here, Golovkin is a hype job. Beating a hype job is unlikely to elevate a fighter to legendary status in a single fight. Floyd's legacy is what it is: he's rich and healthy. That's his true legacy.

Golovkin is a very good fighter but he has beat nobody. for some reason he has this big name, so if the smaller, older Floyd beats him, he should get credit.

I think I'd prefer Kovalev to fight Stevenson before he fights Ward.
Fans worldwide need to up the pressure on Stevenson, he's holding the division up.

For beating a guy who's never beaten anyone? Why?
It's all moot anyway - Golovkin would beat the pis s out of him.

Slow news day is it? Golovkin will be back up at super middle next week, terrorising all the big names up there while they run scared. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Why wont GGG go to 154 to fight Lara? Or maybe even accept a fight with Lara MW?
Because hes all talk. Already got a journeyman lined up for Monaco. Just waited for the right time to announce it

GGG beats the urine out of him at 154?
Based on what? Stopping Geale and Murray?
I'd love to see GGG try and fight Ward. Easy schooling for Andre. He would win every round.

Why would he fight Lara? Who the hell wants to see that rubbish? Golovkin is aiming to unify the middleweight division - fighting Lara gets him no further forward in that regard.
The Golovkin backlash on here is comical. Time will tell.

So Lara is an interesting but low reward fight so he shouldn't take it on, seems like the kind of thing that other fighters get abuse for.

Because he's huge, skilled, ultra-powerful and killing middleweights. Mayweather's an old man. His legs have gone and he has no appetite for a real fight anymore.
I'd take that bet with you any day of the week. Golovkin's no Paul Smith.

Re: Mayweather vs GGG next May!
GGG vs Floyd would be an interesting test for both but won't happen. Floyd won't want it.
If Manny can get up to 154 for the challenge, Floyd should step up to 160...
GGG is a relatively small MW so is in no hurry to step up. Floyd knows if he met GGG at 154 GGG would be much bigger on the night and be to much.

Interesting? If you find Lara interesting then you need help. Golovkin wants the middleweight belts. If Lara can win one of those he'd fight him and beat him.

I need help for thinking that Lara would represent a more interesting proposition than Munroe Jnr or Rubio, using that same logic we can excuse anyone for avoiding anyone.

Anyone who finds Lara an "interesting proposition" should start watching golf. Maybe Floyd should fight him? Imagine how tragic that would be. Compubox numbers of three apiece.

So basically you know that GGG wouldn't look a million dollars against an opponent with a defence so don't want it to happen, he'd win but wouldn't look great doing it.

Funny how the GGG fanboys are now talking about the quest to unify. Before it was ANYONE from LMW to SMW.
Anyone but Lara it seems. Blatand duck if ever I saw one.
Who wants to see him fight Lara? Plenty more than those who were calling for Monroe! Would be a test. But clearly GGG doesnt want one

Re: Mayweather vs GGG next May!
Golovkin has ducked everyone at 154 and 168. Ok, he doesn't actually fight in those divisions but whose fault is that? He should be fighting in all three - preferably weighing in three times before fights. And those titles he holds at 160? He should give them up. It's fighters like Golovkin ducking the likes of Lara that are ruining this sport. He also ducked Austin Trout and Sakio Bika. There's no question in my mind that those fights didn't happen because GGG - a middleweight - has been fighting at middleweight. Probably.

Several. My point was that Smith is the only fighter Ward has won every round against (since Allen Green). Golovkin is better than those two by a fair margin. If Froch can win his share of rounds, Golovkin would also (perhaps even enough to win).
Quite what relevance Monroe - a middleweight crushed like a fly - has is quite baffling?
Quite why Ward is always brought up as the stick to beat Golovkin is equally odd. Golovkin is a middleweight looking to dominate the middleweights. He's offered to step either side of middleweight for a big money fight (Chavez, Froch and Floyd) - which Ward can't provide.
Golovkin has offered to meet Ward - a naturally bigger man - in the middle (164 lbs, 50-50 purse split). As Ward can't manage that then we should probably forget about it. Hopefully Ward goes after Kovalev and Golovkin goes after Cotto/Canelo.

Now Haz I was hardly being completely serious.
Look I do rate GGG and he has looked amazing against the opponents he has faced. If he can get a world class fighter on his resume and he looks as good, then i will give him his due.
If Ward should chase Kovalev (I would like that) should perhaps GGG forget about calling out little Floyd?

I like GGG when he's fighting but he's tiresome calling out all these fighters. Look, you can't fight Floyd and Ward, they're separated by 21 lbs. Get serious Gennady and stop revelling in your reputation.

Pacquiao p4p would be a nightmare for GGG. Just a pity he is too small and old.
If he was bigger and in Cotto form, he would literally kill Gennady imo. Too fast, too good and would be in and out all night. GGG hasn't the defence to beat such an animal.

Has he ever really called him out - or do cub reporters with an affinity for WWE and P4P keep asking him loaded questions? You ask Golovkin if he wants to fight Klitschko and he'd say yes.

Is this where you put a fighter in a magic machine? Or would you just increase whatever was in the milkshakes Ariza gave him pre-Cotto (that Roach claimed were suspicious)?

We all are. The difference is Floyd can choose any fighter he wants and they'll take the fight. Golovkin is waiting around for Cotto to take the fight (or Lemieux, or Canelo should he beat Cotto).
Is Berto any worse than Ortiz? Or Guerrero? Or Maidana? Or the version of Pacquiao he fought? I'm not sure why anyone is outraged he's facing Berto?

Re: Mayweather vs GGG next May!
Maidana is much better. Did Ortiz and Guerrero not beat him too?
Pacquiao is levels above, even the old version.
Ortiz was a young champion when Floyd fought him. Wasn't the worst fight he could take at the time. Guerrero wasn't a great pick, fair enough. Maidana just beat the snot out of Broner, so he earned his shot.
Pacquiao might of been past it but so was Floyd and that fight done record numbers.
Berto would of been ok 4 or 5 years ago around the time he fought Ortiz. Now it is just a joke fight.

Well, he's tweeting articles written about him fighting Floyd. So, yeah I'd say he's fuelling the fire himself.
Rumours around that Lemeiuex is up next. That's something I'd like to see, personally. Good fight.

I don't have a problem per se with GGG not wanting to fight ward at 168. It doesn't look too clever though when his manager has regularly mouthed off about how he'll fight anyone from 154 to 168.
Ward kovalev is an interesting fight if it comes off, but I'd certainly like to see ward golovkin. Ward would be favourite but not the foregone conclusion some seem to think in my view.

Re: Mayweather vs GGG next May!
I'm neither a fanboy of nor a hater of GGG. To me there is no doubt he's special, getting a baramoter on how special he is, is the problem. He's relatively old. So his management team are milking him as hard as they can, 5 careful matchmakings a year, with the hope of floyd, canelo or Cotto as Lotto windfalls.
I think I'll always have respect for canelo, because when the Chavez jr, "protected" mud was in full flight, he demanded trout and Lara, knowing neither fight would be pretty. GGG has never shown the same commitment. For what it's worth I believe GGG would win ugly against both too, but he's letting his promotional team keep him on his beautiful destructive path, as winning ugly doesn't sell, whereas destruction guarantees more bang for your buck.

Lemieux apparently on for the seventeenth of October. Good fight. Would have preferred it on the undercard of Cotto-canelo though, with the winners getting a go at each other. Heck even the losers could have a go at each other.
