Looks like they've done 10k - MSG talking about extending seating to 15k.

Stiverne v Luis Ortiz rumoured for the card also. Ortiz and Golden Boy has signed the contract as has Stiverne, however Stiverne's promoter Don King is messing about and not signing. Apparently Stiverne is not happy with him

Fastest pre-sale ever at MSG. Makes a further mockery that Cotto said he wasn't a draw etc. Still, going to be happy to see Cotto get his head knocked off by Canelo if that fight ever gets signed.

Sold out on the first day of sale.
GGG did the same against Rubio from memory, best selling fight to ever ply his trade at Stub Hub centre, they had to add extra seating etc.
Proves to some doubters that he has strong US support, not just some Eastern European banger that nobody else cares about.

Yep. Credit to US fight fans though. Big launchpad for whoever wins this (yes I'm still hoping Dave can land a Hail Mary)TopHat24/7 wrote:kingraf wrote:Golovkin-Lemieux shifted 6000 in pre sales. Big scary monsters are box office.
I think catchweights balls are easily tingled. Can't see past a one-sided drubbing here

You can see Lemeiux beating the living crap out of Golovkin? Not sure what the carbon copy is...? As Bute was expected to end Froch's career, the career of a multiple champion.... there's not many parallels here that I can see.
Can see one or two fun rounds before GGG projectiles his will over Lemeiux to a 3rd-4th round stoppage. Think Canelo vs Kirkland and you're probably more along the right lines.
Gonna be fun whilst it lasts though.

Yes just like the majority of fans who watched Lewis vs Vitali were either British or Ukranians who lived in Vegas, none of the other locals gave two craps.
You don't sell out MSG in record time because a few of your homeboys decide to buy tickets, it's pretty obvious he has strong support and that this fight has strong support from the boxing community.

I've just set that out above. His last 15 fights so NO home bias for NYC whatsoever.
If some of the North American ducking muppets would fight him then I'm sure he'd happily swap out the Vegas and sell-out there just as easy.

Cotto?
Puerto Rico is a US territory, so I lump it in the same.
Peter Quillin also (terrible ducker).

Admittedly, after those two (and Lem), there isn't really anyone at the weight for him.
Needs to decide whether he'll go up or down (or wait for Canelo to come up....?).

I am a critic at times, but he has called out fighters in his divison. To be fair the other champions aren't keen on him. Fair play to Lemmy for taking the challenge.
I do agree his competition had been sh1t, but MW is pretty dire.

When Hearn waves a cheque at Frampton and Quigg calls him out...
He's a tool...........
Ward - "I went up to GGG's manager and said what's all this ducking business.....He had a shifty grin on his face and started looking at the floor!!"

Yeah I agree about Ward but GGG wan'ts to fight Cotto. Easy money, he is no different than Floyd or any other fighter.
He is after what is best for him, financially.

But he is different..............The rules don't apply to him..
Ward beats Froch...Kessler and is a cherrypicker...
May beats Alvarez and Manny and is a cherrypicker...
Stevo beats Dawson and is a cherrypicker............
Want to give me one name in 5 years that matches up with them for old Rusky...
I want to wrestle Meg Ryan in mud..........Haven't had a reply....
So I'm a real wrestler and she's ducking me...

Re: GGG vs. Lemieux. October 17th, MSG.
Your always going to get that though Truss and he has said (I think) that he wants to unify the MW division.
It is starting to get a little long in the tooth now though and i he doesn't step up soon think he could start to see some fans turning away from him (we all love watching a good boxer but there's only so much guff you can watch.)
I think people are sick of the soft defences (Ward/Smith, May/Berto/Stevenson/Karpency, being prime examples but if your going to judge one for it then you have to do the same for the others.
Lemiux is a good fight but it's telling of the decision when most are giving him no chance at all, after that think it should be Cotto/Alvarez or time to move up and make a legacy

Re: GGG vs. Lemieux. October 17th, MSG.
30k+ posts, 88% repeating the same point. Tends to cause problems with taking notice.
But back to the topic.
Who else after he gets rid of Lemeiux in what I think will be a half decent albeit one sided scrap?
Lee? Average, lost to Chavez Jr.
Quillin? Won't go near him with a bargepole and isn't a world beater
Winner of Cotto vs Canelo? Heard there's a rematch clause so unless Canelo beats Cotto in to retirement by shutout scores then not expecting him to get either of those.
Move up to 168? Would seem premature, would have to maybe wait 6 more months for the aforementioned rematch to get out of the way. Hoping Canloe wins for multiple reasons, main one being he would give GGG his shot which Cotto has refused to do.
